Welcome to our fourteenth developers update for Call to Arms! We will use these updates to keep you posted on the progress of the development and features.
It’s been a while since our last patch for Call to Arms and we are happy to tell you the waiting was worth it!
Medics
We finally added the medic unit class! Unlike in previous games, the medic is a specifically trained soldier with a unique ability to revive wounded soldiers. Furthermore, we added a mechanic that only veteran soldiers can be revived. So it takes a little bit of an extra effort to get your soldiers on to the “safe side”. Reviving isn’t instant either, but it takes a couple of seconds depending on how qualified your medic is. After that, your medic and your revived soldier will auto prone to hide from enemy fire. For the first time ever, your medic will also work in competitive multiplayer and you can revive friendly units as well!
Sounds
We’ve been reworking the whole sound environment with a huge amount of high quality stereo sounds and we will continue to polish the sound effects until we are fully satisfied! This time you will enjoy new and realistic reloading sounds, amazing silencer sounds and a huge variety of extremely well recorded environment sounds and much more!
Weapon damage
We introduced a completely new system for weapon damage to reflect real world fire arms even better in the game. Thanks to the idea of our community member Blub0r2k, we are now using a system that uses muzzle velocity and gun calibre size to determine the strength of a weapon.
Balance
The game has become too hardcore and too frustrating at times, hence we have re-balanced the whole small arms fire damage. The damage curve is a lot more straight forward now and the weapon damage is much better balanced to reward taking risk and flanking units, as well as making defending easier against hordes of enemy soldiers. Last Man Standing and Evacuation have been rebalanced as well. A new growing CP system has been introduced to make early game less spammy but more tactical and versatile.
Ammo trucks
New units joined the battlefield as well! Finally both the US and the GRM have basic trucks and ammo trucks in their unit roster to re-supply or to transport units quickly!
Enhanced 3rd person interface
We added an improved 3rd person interface that shows you your tank orientation and damaged parts. A compass helps you to communicate and mark enemy units for your teammates. A crew display helps you to understand the effects of losing crew members to enemy fire and a new weapon selection system allows you to quickly switch weapons by just pressing the designated number!
Main menu interface
Of course our biggest project, the new main menu interface is progressing as well! LAN mode is re-enabled for local games and single skirmish matches. We’ve also been working on many improvements and bug fixes. Very important for anyone looking to level up: the XP display has been re-added to the session screen. Furthermore we have been working on the party system. Once completed, you will be able to invite your friends to chat in private and to join/host games together.
Engine improvements
We are currently reworking effects like Ambient Occlusion and Sun Rays to enhance performance and graphics fidelity. This also includes new weather effects, like day and night cycle, as well as fancy new effects.
As you see, we have been doing many improvements to the game lately and we will continue to push the pace at which these improvements are done. Expect more cool stuff soon!
The patch will be available later this weekend. ːcta_emo1ː
