Welcome to our twentieth developers update for Call to Arms! We will use these updates to keep you posted on the progress of the development and features.
It’s been a massive ride lately, as our team has been pushing super hard to improve the game in every aspect!
Vehicles
All vehicles have 4 times higher resolution textures now and feature squad logos on them, that you can customize easily by yourself. These logos are synced online, so that each player can be identified in the heat of combat!
Furthermore, we completely reworked the vehicle controls, they are much easier and smoother to use now. Vehicles have realistic acceleration and speed that depends on the terrain you are driving on and we just added vehicle suspension physics to the game! Not only that, but we also improved the vehicle interaction code with physics to finally stop the flipping over of vehicles. The interaction is not perfect yet, but it does the job and will be continuously improved.
Poor pathing has been adding lots of stress to players and we are pleased to say, that most issues have been solved and pathing has been improved dramatically. Still, it’s not perfect, but we will continue to work on this as well!
Graphics
Graphics have been upgraded tremendously, as well as game performance. Your environment does look a lot better now and gives justice to the 3rd person controls. Expect many visual improvements in the future as well. For now, you will be able to enjoy HD textures and a much better overall visual presentation of the game!
Infantry Controls
Some of you who tried out the open beta patch lately, probably noticed that we introduced 3rd person controls to infantry and we would like to share our plans for it. 3rd person controls will completely exchange all other control styles. As it stands, we develop two games, a RTS and a 3rd person shooter game. This is a lot of work and it is very difficult to accomplish. Adding a third old school control scheme from previous games just makes this task impossible and will heavily impact the overall quality of the game. Therefore, we will no longer work on it or support it. However, we made it easy for modders to enable the old control scheme if they desire.
Infantry controls will be a bit rough at the beginning, so please give us some time to polish them up. We are aware of the current issues and we are working on solutions for it. Just remember, how much the tank controls have been improved since the first iteration.
Our plans are to allow you to switch between squad members, as we believe the 3rd person feature should be mostly a squad based feature, not a primarily single soldier experience. In this regard, we will add specific UI controls to make it easy for you to keep track of your soldier and squad members. Furthermore, we are working on vastly improved infantry controls. You will be able to strafe, sprint and zoom on enemies depending on the weapon you carry with you. An easy way to switch between equipment is also planned. Many criticized the grenade tossing controls and we have plans to improve that as well.
At the end, we will deliver new animations to make the controls look and feel good. Further down the road, we will improve the camera behavior to allow better in door fighting.
Again, please give us some time to figure everything out. The controls are a step by step evolution.
Once infantry controls are done, you can expect new controls for helicopters to arrive!
Steam Market
Call to Arms is now part of the Steam market and you can earn yourself some awesome in-game items. Some of them are the previously mentioned squad logos. To earn these items, you simply need to play the game and not leave running matches. Those who stay in-game until the match is over, will occasionally get rewarded by supply boxes. These supply boxes can be opened, as they contain various types of items. Got the same item twice? No problem, exchange it into in-game cash and trade it for new supply boxes, or go to the Steam market and sell your item to other players! Play and earn money. Sounds good, doesn’t it?
The late November update (no further delays), will be the biggest and most meaningful update the game has yet to receive and we are very happy how well the game has progressed lately. We hope, you will be as well! ːcta_emo10ː
