Critics outraged as prisoners granted “unfettered access” to public communications
The government today launched a new initiative to engage the general public in the horrors of prison life, hoping to deter young people from crime.
The initiative will see prisoners using Twitter to share their experiences of detention, though critics are concerned that the move will simply lead to idolisation of criminals amongst the populous, particularly as their use of the social network will be totally unsupervised.
Speaking to press, a spokesperson stated “Whilst this move is a controversial one, we are confident that it will lead to a better understanding of how miserable life in prison really is, deterring crime”.
The first prisoner to be allowed to take part in the scheme will be the recently convicted “Jimmy Locke”, sentenced to 15 years after attempting to sell Buckingham Palace to a passing tourist. Jimmy will send his first tweet on Sunday 11th January and members of the public can tune in to interact with Jimmy on @Escapists_Game.
