Hey peoples, big week on The Escapists front!
If you didn’t catch it on Tuesday, the game was featured on stage at gamescom as part of Microsofts indie lineup for Xbox One (see the announcement here). Team17 are doing a great job on the XBOX One port while I crack on with the PC build. Even if you have no interest in the console version, the general awareness and interest in The Escapists saw a gigantic jump after the announcement, and that’s great for the game overall.
Even more exciting news: we now have the release date for The Escapists Early Access here on Steam! It’ll be released next Wednesday, the 20th of August. I know you guys have been itching to play (thank you so much for your patience!), your first opportunity to do is just one week away! You guys here on the forum are hearing this first, press releases and such regarding this will go out tomorrow.
What’s new?
So what have I been working on over the past week? The following;
Outfits - Guard outfits and overalls are now working as intended. While wearing any disguise, it has its benefits but it also has restrictions on it. One of these is that your heat slowly rises while wearing it, simulating the rise in suspicion
Warden - Now and then the prison warden will visit. He’ll stroll around a little reminding everyone he’s in charge.
Job Staff - Another NPC, the employment officer. He stands behind the job office desk preaching about the importance of prison work.

Here’s my responses to a few popular questions regarding the PC version;
How much can I customise my avatar?
Currently you select from one of the character presets, name him, and jump right in.
When will the Linux / Mac versions be available?
Once the Windows build is finished I’ll get looking at the other ports
Can you break out with other prisoners?
Not with them, but you can use other prisoners to take control of and escape the prison by downing all the guards.
