UPDATE: HMP Irongate Opens Doors, Prisoners Despair

Right then Turkeys,

It’s update time.

Today we’ve added what is, by far, the hardest challenge you’ve faced in The Escapists so far. This prison is such a beast that it was very specifically chosen to be the last during Early Access (more on that below). Welcome, cons, to HMP Irongate.

Irongate is the premier destination for the prime scum of the earth. Equipped with an impressive arsenal of anti-escapist defences, plotting to get out of here will be a severe challenge – and, trust me, the prison walls are only a minor obstacle.

But fear not, you’ll have plenty of motivation to leave. The guards at HMP Irongate are the best of the best at hating on you, patrolling the prison with severe frowns and electrified batons which will down you at the slightest touch. You can put that glint in your eye away as well, the batons use fingerprint ID’s and won’t work for anyone other than the guard they belong to.

The guards aren’t your only challenge. Kiss goodbye to your army of cons waiting for your command. They hate new fish with a passion, so it’s probably a good idea to work on your public image. But good luck to you on that front too, free time is a rare commodity in Her Majesty’s Prison.

I have a final tip for you, and you should heed it well. Learn where the cameras are.

That’s enough of me spoiling what will surely become the focus of all your hatred over the next few weeks, I look forward to your caps locked rage-posts in the forums ;)

Elsewhere in today’s update:

New Content

  • New items and craftables! No spoilers here, get to tinkering cons.
  • Russian and Polish language support added (WIP)
  • Payphones are now implemented. If you’re stuck, call for help.
  • A new workout is available –chin ups. Fix those biceps con!
  • Some minor graphical improvements

Changes and Tweaks

  • Guard tower snipers will no longer shoot you whilst you’re carrying a hostage.
  • Certain items can now be used to disable security cameras.

Fixes

  • Fake fences should now work correctly.
  • Fixed a bug preventing the player from being attacked whilst on top of furniture.
  • X-ray vision has been removed from guards, they’ll no longer see or prompt you if you’re inside a cabinet.
  • Solitary confinement has been added to the guard’s patrol route in Center Perks.
  • Stopped a bug that caused weirdness when a player dropped off a roof.
  • Fixed various bugs affecting the use of ropes when descending from a roof.

    I mentioned earlier that HMP Irongate is our final Early Access prison. With today’s update, the game is nearing content completion and we’re very close now to a full release.
