Hello H-Hour community!
Thank you all for helping launch H-Hour into the PC community and for your continued support of H-Hour as we head into the summer months. We plan on adding new content to the game every single week going forward so you can see positive improvements in H-Hour on a consistent basis. Some of these updates will be large and some will be small but we believe it is important to continually show our progress.
We ask that you all continue to contribute to the development of the game by providing your feedback, getting on the servers and hunting down those bugs! We love to hear your thoughts and every comment helps us make this game better. This project is really only just beginning and we are lucky to have a great community behind us.
The development team continues to work through bug fixes and preparing bigger content updates for release. As an example, a lot of you have been voicing concerns over bullet delay. What bullet delay really comes down to is network lag. Another programmer will start work this week and his number one priority out of the gate is network prediction. He’s worked on several AAA games and we’re happy to have him come in and assist the team for the next several months. This particular code addition will also fix the current shakiness in the spectator cam (allowing for smooth prediction of where players will be).
Fun Fact: Hit detection is done on the server and if you have one hundred milliseconds of lag then you may see a half meter distance between where a player actually is and where you see him. This is the reason that you have to lead shots right now in order to hit a target. Again, we are working to correct this.
Russ is now 99% focused on the new map. Assets for the new map have been moved to UE4 and it is running in its preliminary state in the engine. As the sculpting and the layout are being worked on the environmental assets are being created by the rest of our artists. We’ll look to show some early screenshots at a later date after they are approved by the team. This would be an example of the larger content we’re looking to put out in conjunction with the smaller updates. Please keep in mind.. We have ONE person creating our maps, for now, and that person is Russ.
If you haven't already, check out our Trello road map to see some of the other projects upcoming in H-Hour's development and to up-vote those you are most excited to see implemented into the game.
Kevin and I are heading to E3 during the week of June 15. We already have a number of meetings and interviews scheduled so far. We also now have a marketing team on board and a plan for the Studio to expand our reach to those who haven’t heard of H-Hour. More on that amazing team in the coming weeks.
Our priorities, some are working in tandem, are:
- Network Prediction Code
- Animations
- Voice Chat
- New Maps
We’ll always work to reorganize and adjust when needed.
Thank you for all of your support and we are very excited to be heading into the summer months and bringing you all along throughout the early access process.
