Hi Fleetbreakers,
This week’s story spotligh is a look at one of the most important characters you will encounter during your adventures. Meet Melvin “The Mechanic” Wright, a veteran engineer and one of the last independent mechanics still operating in Vanguard space. Mel carries extensive mechanical implants; the result of a lifetime spent repairing, rebuilding, and surviving. His small robot assistant, Clanger, rarely leaves his side.
Mel was in the Cobalt Expedition and served under Captain Flint. After fighting the Voltari for years, Mel saw no future in it and left with his robots to fend for himself.
Mel’s ship is filled with abandoned prototypes and half‑finished ideas. When inspiration strikes, he pursues it immediately, often at the expense of whatever he was working on before.
Mel appears throughout the sector as a traveling mechanic, providing:
- Ship repairs
- Specialized upgrades
- Access to experimental tech
- The occasional bit of intel and/or conspiracy theory
He’s a reliable source of engineering support for players looking to strengthen or customize their ship as they push deeper into Vanguard space.
- The LK Team
