I had good reasons for leaving the US. From my perspective, profound reasons. I threw myself at Anchuria. Embraced the land and the people. It’s only now, under the new travel restrictions, that I wish I could go home.
Anchuria is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen, but you can only feel joy if you’re free. I can go wherever I want, as long as I don’t want to leave the country. As long as I don’t mind getting hassled by General Miraflores’ soldiers, asking me where I’m going and why.
The natural beauty here was diminished somehow as soon as the borders were closed. The tropical plants are the same, but not as vibrant to my eyes. The birds with the same iridescent feathers now seem like they’re squawking, not singing. And the beautiful people don’t smile as often. All is as it was - the majestic hills and dreamlike sunsets - nothing has changed, except what we feel.
