🎯 INTRODUCING MISSIONS
Every run now gives you more to accomplish.
Missions give you additional objectives during your runs, including:
Kill enemies
Survive for a set amount of time
Destroy crates
Collect journal entries
Destroy exploding barrels
Complete missions to earn StableDNA, giving you another reason to take on objectives while you're fighting to survive.
🧬 REWARDING STABLE DNA
Your missions now have a bigger purpose.
Completing missions rewards you with StableDNA, introducing the first piece of Boom Die Repeat's future permanent progression system.
In a future update, StableDNA will be used alongside achievement based unlocks to unlock new:
🧬 Mutations
🔫 Weapons
🧟 Characters
🎒 Loadouts
For now, we're introducing the system and letting you start building up your StableDNA.
🕹️FULL CONTROLLER SUPPORT
You can now play the entire game using a controller.
Controller support has received a major overhaul, allowing you to play the complete game without needing a keyboard or mouse.
We've also added vibration and haptic feedback for things like explosions, shooting, taking damage, and more.
Pick up your controller and play from start to finish.
🎮FULL STEAM DECK SUPPORT
Boom Die Repeat is now fully supported on Steam Deck!
You can play the entire game using the Steam Deck's built-in controls.
And we're extremely happy with how it performs.
Performance has been amazing.
Whether you're playing at your desk or taking the apocalypse on the go, Boom Die Repeat is ready.
🔓 MORE TO PLAY
For this update, we've made 3 characters, 3 weapons, and 3 loadouts available from the start.
This isn't the final unlock system. We're giving you more options now so you can experiment with different combinations and experience more of what Boom Die Repeat has to offer.
Try different characters.
Try different weapons.
Try different loadouts.
Find what works for you.
🧬 BETTER RUN FEEDBACK
We've improved how your run communicates what you've accomplished.
You'll now see your enemy kills and DNA collected during your run, while the run-end screen provides clearer information about your collected DNA and mutations.
StableDNA and other DNA collection also received additional visual feedback.
💥 MORE BOSS CHAOS
We've made improvements to boss behavior, including fixes around boss deaths and spawn warnings.
And there's one particularly important change...
Multiple bosses can now appear together.
You're welcome.
🛠️ A LOT OF WORK UNDER THE HOOD
We've also spent a significant amount of time fixing bugs, cleaning up systems, and improving stability.
This includes fixes and improvements involving enemy and barrel pooling, loading screens, animations, HUD behavior, audio, and other systems throughout the game.
You probably won't notice most of this work.
And that's exactly the point.
🚀 WHAT'S NEXT?
v0.5.0 establishes a much stronger foundation for Boom Die Repeat.
We've got new systems in place, StableDNA has arrived, controller and Steam Deck support are ready, and there are now more ways to play and experiment.
And we're getting ready for the next big step.
More soon.
