Hello everyone, it’s been a while but I’m very excited to announce patch 0.4.4 of Dungeon Exiles which also means the Steam demo is returning! So feel free to play the demo for free and let me know what you think! Anyway, patch 0.4.4 has changed Dungeon Exiles significantly so I’ll be going over some of the major changes.
Resolve System
In Dungeon Exiles 0.4.4 health is no longer persistent across rooms, instead, you’ll manage a new resource called Resolve which represents your mental fortitude against the horrors of the dungeon. If you lose all of your Resolve your run is over! A small amount of Resolve is lost whenever you engage in a combat encounter, and a greater amount is lost if you lose a fight. It’s worth noting that if you lose to a Boss you’ll lose all of your Resolve regardless, so be careful!
Resolve can also be gained and lost through certain random events. If you are feeling lucky you can decide to risk some of your Resolve for greater rewards in certain events, or you can just take what you’re offered.
The idea behind the Resolve system is that, firstly, it makes the game a lot easier to balance as it’s less strict on how much damage a player takes in an encounter, all that matters is winning or losing. Secondly, it allows for a lot more freedom when traversing the map as you won’t be limited to your dwindling health pool.
Item System
Items from shops are now randomly generated with random stats. They can spawn from any rarity from Basic all the way to Epic! The rarity of an item determines its cost and number of modifiers. You’ll be able to upgrade your shop items at a campfire which will increase an item’s stats by 30%, however, you won’t be able to upgrade Treasure items (items that come from chests).
The idea behind the random item system is that it makes each shop feel a lot more interesting as you’ll never know what you’ll find! As such, it adds to the variability and replayability of the game.
Also, speaking of items, consumables have been changed. Consumables are now a lot cheaper, and a lot more powerful but only last for a few seconds instead of multiple fights. The idea is that you can use consumables in the middle of combat to turn the tide of a fight and give players a bit more agency in interacting with enemies.
Game Balance
The balance of Dungeon Exiles has changed significantly due to the Resolve system, as such balance is something I’ll be looking at closely in the following days/weeks as players try out the new version of Dungeon Exiles. So again, if you have any thoughts or feedback feel free to let me know!
Bug Fixes
A bug that prevented Arena Fighter (the passive that grants stacking Block chance when applying a Bleed) has been fixed, so conditional effects that trigger when applying a Bleed (or any Status Effect) should be working correctly now.
Known Issues
There are known issues in regards to playing Dungeon Exiles on a non-16:9 resolution, and on 4K resolution, I am aware but unsure of when I’ll get around to fixing them. I appreciate your understanding if you are affected by these issues.
Closing Words
This is yet another significant change to Dungeon Exiles, but hopefully, future updates won’t be so game-changing so things will have time to settle. So if you have any feedback feel free to let me know! You can leave your comments here, on the Steam forums, or you can join the Discord server.
To ensure you are playing on the correct version, ensure the main menu reads “0.4.4”. You may have to update, verify your game files or re-install your game.
I hope you enjoy the new update!
Cheers,
Gronkins
