Hi everyone and welcome back to a brand new update for the demo!
In this article we will take a look at the brand new enemy "Archanoid Steel" or the robot spider which more people probably recognizes it as. But also the new interesting mechanics such as the taming mechanic and the fast traveling mechanic!
Let's dive right in:
Archanoid Steel (The robot spider)
This is probably the most frightening thing created yet in this game! With it's scary movements and sudden suprise attacks in the sewer area it will surely give a bit of a scary vibe to those maps!
The thing with these creatures is that they actaully invincible, but not only that they are also the first tameable creatures! More on that later.
So little is known about these guys in general. Some seems to think they are a product of the regime, designed to threaten the resitance group and their activites in the sewer area. Maybe the regime doesn't know exactly where the resitance camp is located but have heard about the rumors that they are hiding somewhere underground?
Next what about the taming mechanic? How is this new feature going to work and how is it implemented? Let's take a look!
The Taming Mechanic
I have ever since I was a little kid playing on the playgrounds at school loved the idea of having a pet. Especially in an RPG setting! How cool isn't it to have a little guy by your side helping you out? Or well..urm maybe not this creature is as little as what we imagine when we think of a pet.
To start off your taming journey you go go the mechanic guy in the first slum area. They will give you item's that originally he was given by the physcian. And they are willing to offer you those for free. He prefers staying inside and create things in his own comfortable heated home. Not lurking arround underground in those cold tunnels brrrr...
After accepting these. You will head down to the sewers area and hope you find a spider yourself. It can take a bit of time it is completly random where they spawn afterall.
And when you have found one of these beasts. Or cuties however you prefer. You will do your classic monster tamer task of battling with it until the creature has reached a low level of HP so you can have a good chance of taming it!
Pet's themselves are not like usual character's though. You don't just spawn with them. You need to use the button which sends it out and it replaces on character already on your party in battle. Meaning if you have two character's out Tommy or Alvin will be replaced for example. After the pet has died it will be replaced with a character. I am working on adding an improvement regarding this in the future where you can switch out your pet and prefered choice of character whenever you want. Obviously the drawback if you choose to switch out often is that it takes a turn. I do belive this will create better and more creative way of replacing character's because you have more options.
Like normal character's they level up of course, and they are interesting additions to the battle system.
Fast traveling
After choosing the camp you want to go to. A quick loading screen will appear which I have carefully designed with a futursitic aesthetic.
Fast traveling is an important feature. that has now finally been added and will make traveling much more pleasent and effecient. To limit this feature in order to not make it an easy overpowered cheat which would remove all the points of having maps. I have locked it only to the key resitance camps that are located across various parts of Valborg. All the way from the secret sewer camp to the church (Not available in Demo) and also the place located in the city called Full Moon Bar.
You will of course only be able to travel to these destinations if you have already visited them previously.
Lastly I want to as always thank you for reading this extensive breakdown but also mention that I have made some improvements to make the first enemies you meet a bit easier. Which many has given me feedback for! I am hoping it was interesting and sparked a bit of curiosity. And see you in the next on post!
