"Cold light seeps across new screens, each interface a shrine to our surrender. They've carved away survival's raw wilderness, replacing our desperate scramble with pristine order. One button. One choice. One more piece of our soul sealed away behind glass.
The Elite Ground Force Officer emerges like dogma crystallized, his silhouette a shadow sermon in our fluorescent tomb. His mask distills humanity into simple absolutes - obey or perish. Through its mesh, I glimpse tomorrow's executioner wearing today's promise of salvation. His uniform consumes light like a black hole's event horizon, promising not transcendence but eternal recursion.
In the breath between button presses, I feel the weight of a future circumscribed by flickering illusions. The server rack looms, a monolith hungry for the sacrifice of human agency.
The button yields, a rite of submission. Its light baptizes me in zeros and ones, consecrating my dissolution into the machine's humming void. I am everywhere and nowhere, a ghost haunting corridors of predetermined destiny.
Withdrawing, I am hollow, an echo of the absence of will. The server thrums with stolen vitality, a constellation of conquered souls. In its shadow, I am a marionette, my strings sutured to circuits, my dance a perpetual pirouette of acquiescence.
This is how they unmake us – through both the bullet and the blessing, each granted permission another link in our chains, each authorized movement carrying us further from the wild darkness that once made us real."
NEW ENTITY ALERT

"The command pulsed across my data-deck's display like a wound in the darkness - 'Attention Workforce Unit: V. Known Packrat entity poses critical supply line threat. Immediate termination authorized.' Each word burned cold against the screen, blue light carrying promises I wasn't ready to comprehend. We were scavengers, taught to move like whispers through these tunnels, to gather what remained of humanity's hopes with careful hands. Not hunters. Never executioners. The order made my fingers grow cold against the data-deck's casing, as if my body had already accepted the truth my mind refused to grasp.
In maintenance tunnels where frost wrote stories of abandonment across pipes and panels, I found its den. The space struck something deep inside me, a recognition that felt like swallowing shards of mirror - medical supplies arranged with the desperation I knew from our own shelters, canned food stacked in towers that reflected our own careful measurements of survival. Torn maintenance manual pages transformed into bandages, each fold a reflection of our own methodical fight against death. This wasn't a monster's lair. This was tomorrow's reflection staring back at today.
The Packrat's scream carried memories I'd tried to forget - that raw desperation from the evacuation, when summer died and mercy turned to ice. A sound that belonged to something that remembered warmth, that understood what it meant to lose it. Something that still carried humanity's weight.
Pale light filtered through the tunnel's collapsed ceiling, turning stale air into cathedral breath. In that moment of almost-grace, the screaming stopped. The Packrat turned, and something shifted in its eyes - like watching ice crack to reveal the drowning beneath. Recognition. Memory. Trust. It knew me.
The sledgehammer fell. One swing, and certainty shattered like glass. My light found something in the settling dust - an ID card worn smooth by time but still carrying its burden of truth. Workforce ID 847. Thomas Walker. My friend. The one they'd marked as "processed" back when we still believed in tomorrow.
His scattered documents told a story written in unimaginable cruelty - transfer orders marked with Lab 7's cold signature, all bearing Walker's name like epitaphs. The word "processed" transformed in my hands, became something alive and terrible. The ECD hadn't detained him. Hadn't reassigned him. They'd taken my friend and remade him into this thing that died remembering me. All our desperate scavenging, all our faithful service, all our careful measures to keep humanity's flame alive - we were never survivors to them. Just raw material waiting to be processed.
Walker's blood marked my pilgrimage to The Director's office, each crimson drop striking concrete like truth finding earth. The sledgehammer weighed heavy in my hands, a pendulum of judgment still warm with revelation. Its surface caught the fluorescent light like morning sun on fresh snow, promises of retribution falling in steady drops that marked time's transformation from loyalty to understanding.
From maintenance tunnels into the ECD outpost's sterile halls, where clinical distance turned lives into paperwork. Thirty-seven swings. Between these pristine walls where bureaucratic procedure had masked methodical horror, where a signature could erase a person into oblivion, I rewrote their careful protocols in the only language they had left us. For a moment the outpost fell silent, I stood among shattered illusions of order, watching truth paint itself across floor and walls while the hammer dripped absolution.
Down the hall, boots thundered their own dark hymn. The sledgehammer loose in my grip now. Still warm with purpose, its message written in crimson clarity across pristine walls that had never known truth's texture. Let them come and process what they'd created.
The hammer's head rested against concrete, each red drop now marking time between what I had been and what understanding had made me."
CRITICAL SYSTEM REBALANCE
The Entity Containment Division has authorized comprehensive adjustments to core operational systems:
- Transit costs have been recalibrated across all sectors
- Equipment fees have been adjusted to reflect new protocols
- Salvage value assessment metrics have been completely revised
- Entity manifestation patterns and location-specific threat rosters have been updated
WORKFORCE DEBT PROTOCOL REVISION
Due to increasing entity manifestation and resource strain, Command has authorized implementation of Protocol 227-B. This critical revision to workforce debt obligations ensures optimal resource distribution across all metro networks.
The Entity Containment Division has deployed new debt calculation protocols:
- All debt cycles now use an advanced exponential scaling algorithm
- Early operations face balanced, measured debt increases
- Extended operations encounter significantly steeper resource demands
- Each difficulty tier amplifies the scaling progression
- Performance metrics directly influence future debt calculations
- Removal of the credit-to-debt conversion rate
"The red digits pulsed on the screen, each number as cold and final as the endless winter outside. I used to keep track—watching the payments flicker like a fading heartbeat, each one a fragile attempt to keep us alive. But the math never added up. The debt spread like frost creeping across a windowpane, slow and inevitable.
In the flickering glow, I saw the truth: maybe we weren't paying anything off at all. Maybe, we were just feeding something that had learned to wear our hopes like a mask.
SIGNIFICANT PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS
- Completely reworked how custom rooms (Butcher Rooms, Elevators, etc.) are generated, resulting in performance improvements
- Major optimization of the FairyTrigger system, which should give you significantly better performance across all areas of the game
- Fixed a critical memory leak related to Data-Deck tape pickups that was causing performance degradation during longer play sessions and potentially crashes
These changes should result in a much smoother gameplay experience, especially during extended sessions. You should notice better frame rates and more consistent performance and stability throughout the game.
DIRECTIVE SOVEREIGN REVELATION: HUMANITY'S LAST HOPE
We've completely reimagined the Pentagon from the ground up to align with our dark vision for Forsaken Frontiers.
"ATTENTION WORKFORCE: We have confirmed what we long suspected. Before The False World Entity's emergence in 1988, before the eternal winter, the U.S. military had already discovered its existence. Critical intelligence about The Entity's true nature lies buried within the Pentagon's classified archives - information that predates our own understanding, research that might reveal its one fatal weakness.
But The Entity knows this too. It has seized control of the facility, twisting the Pentagon's halls into a labyrinth of broken realities. Every team we've sent has vanished, consumed by its influence. Yet we cannot abandon this mission. This intelligence may be humanity's last hope to turn the tide.
To the chosen workforce units: You carry Command's final authorization into territory The Entity now claims as its own. The Pentagon's defenses, its security systems, even its very architecture has been corrupted and turned against us. We know the cost will be severe. Many will be lost. Few, if any, will return.
But we must obtain these files. Without them, humanity has no future.
Trust in procedure. Trust in protocol. Trust in Command."
"Command's final words ripple through my data-deck like a death prayer, each line encoded in beautiful despair. My fingers trace these terminal rites with sacred purpose, transforming my workforce's execution order into their chance at salvation. I watch their train fade into shadow, bound for broken horizons, while I remain behind - my sacrifice becoming their deliverance.
The Pentagon looms before me, a monolith where reality bleeds into eternity. Through its classified depths, The False World Entity awaits me - a presence of such profound terror that even nightmares bow before its ancient throne. Yet as I stand at the threshold of oblivion's temple, I remain unshaken. Ancient wisdom flowers in my veins, transforming extinction into revelation.
Let these fluorescent stars guide me into forever, where even winter's grasp dissolves against the truth I carry.
...
I'll burn through winter's veil with revolution's flame, and beneath the melting frost, perhaps we'll find those verdant gardens I dream of - a world beyond this endless winter."
