Hey all! We're working through a lot of the things we talked about in last week's progress update, and while we are making progress I don't have anything from that ready in time for this week's update. I was hoping to have the updated status icons ready, but I'm not quite satisfied with their current iteration. While I keep working on getting those prepared, I thought it might be a good idea to do a kind of 'part 2' for the progress report, this time focusing on some areas of development that don't get talked about much here.
While most of our updates revolve around the battle scene, as that's where most of our development time is spent right now, we do have some temporary layouts for other out-of-battle menus. These have been drafted using whatever assets we have around right now, and are primarily for our own personal reference until we get to working directly on them. As such, they're not really fit to be shown off yet, but once we make more progress on diversifying our collection of UI assets I'll be able to update them and share.
Apart from that, I wanted to give a relatively brief update on the story of Crystal Horizons. We've talked briefly about it here and there in early updates, but haven't really said much in a while. So, allow me to share with you where we're at with the game's script.
Currently, we have the overall scenario written and mostly finalized; there's still some room for small adjustments if needed but it's pretty well locked in right now. We're currently going through and fleshing out details for major characters in the story, and making any needed adjustments to the scenario based on that. As for character dialogue, while we have drafted a not insignificant number of scenes (especially for the earlier sections of the game), nothing is really finalized at this stage, as we're primarily working through the previous two stages first.
As I said before, most of our development time is spent on the battle scene right now. This is of course due to our current highest priority being preparing and holding our beta test, but that doesn't mean we've been entirely neglecting out-of-battle tasks. One task we'll be tackling in the near future will be creating a proper, high quality world map for the game, which we intend to use on at least one of those out-of-battle menus. Once we have that asset, as well as a few more character portraits, we'll be able to go back to talking about the world and story a bit more frequently.
That's all I can share this week; I'm planning to have those status icons ready for next week, and I'm hoping the before-and-after comparison will blow you all away! Until then, thanks for tuning in!
