FaceRig v0.992b "nextversion" update: Hatzi avatar, Yvonne now has hands and a visor (and please read this before pre-ordering)

Hello Awesome People!

Before proceeding to the latest news, let us remind you (like a broken record) that FaceRig is at this time still in development. Before purchasing FaceRig, please read this announcement carefully.

It's recommended that you read the EULA (as you should do with any software you buy and/or use.) Please make sure to also check the minimal requirements and remember that for now FaceRig is Windows-only, and that the mobile/low voltage versions of the listed CPU's and GPU's typically have less performance than their desktop counterparts.

Now to the actual news!

We've added a new free avatar for you guys to enjoy, a husky called Hatzi. He has a special action ear pose that you can activate by pressing V.

Yvonne now has hands! You guys have been asking for hands on avatars for a long time now and have been awesome in providing us with constant feedback. As a result, we've added hands to our Yvonne avatar.
Her hands are controlled by key binds for now:) Make sure you also check out her out-of-this-world visor! ( press M to activate)

For both Yvonne and Hatzi, the special actions (hands/ears/visor) require that you have Enable custom action toggled on in Avatar > Behavior.

If you are wondering about how to use the "nextversion" branch here are the steps:

  • Open Steam Client. Go to Library -> Software
  • Right mouse click on FaceRig -> Properties
  • Go to BETAS tab, click in the "Select the beta you would like to opt into:" drop down, select "nextversion"
  • Close window. The FaceRig program will update to the "nextversion" branch.

FaceRig v 0.992b (build 460 Holotech Studios - Mar 6 2015) - nextversion branch

Change log:

  • fixed an issue regarding switching to an earlier state of FaceRig when closing a performance.
  • switched audio system to WASAPI driver model
  • fixed advanced tracking issue. Feature states (enabled/disabled) were displayed incorrectly (always enabled).
  • some display adjustments added to all galleries (avatars, backgrounds, props) when using the search feature.
  • avatar moves to the left when a GUI dialog is opened to make room for dialog
  • avatar specific props now load correctly and their skins are displayed
  • fixed loading a custom 2D backdrop for the Custom 2D background. All .tga and .dds files can now be loaded from \Mod\VP\PC (for DX9) or \Mod\VP\PC_dx11 (for DX11), \Mod\VP\PC_CustomData (for both DX9 and DX11) and c:\users\\Documents\Holotech\FaceRig\AdditionalData (for both DX9 and DX11). Also, all JPG files can be loaded from anywhere on disk.
  • added support for .TIF, .PNG and .BMP files. They can be loaded as masks (for avatar customizations) and custom 2D backdrops. Like .JPG files, these also can be loaded from anywhere on the disk, there is no restriction on the folder they reside in.
  • *.JPG files now also load on DX11. This was an issue for earlier versions, .JPG files would load but were displayed as a black frame.
  • all error boxes (Windows message boxes) have been ported to the new UI.
  • removed Reset Avatar when Tracking Lost from Avatars > Behavior tab.
  • updated karaoke UI
  • added delayed screenshot feature. The delay can be customized from General Options dialog > Preferences tab > General sub-tab - Screenshot Delay
  • added new Graphics (General Options dialog) options:
    • toggle fullscreen mode
    • Global Fur LOD - to the far left fur is not present at all, to the far right is the default value and the way the furry avatars are meant to be displayed. Global Fur LOD also has an impact on performance.
    • Skin Subsurface Scattering Quality (also impacts performance)
    • Global Use of Multiple Normals (on/off) (also impacts performance)

  • hide interface option change: if the interface is hidden and the mouse hovers a dialog, the option is toggled OFF.
  • added Hide button to the Tracker Source Feed (to toggle it back ON, just go to Picture in Picture Mode on the top menu bar)
  • added a new PnP mode. Forth mode is the tracker source feed set as a background, with the avatar placed in the foreground. Lighting changes when using this option, as the custom 2d background is loaded first and the feed is set as the custom 2d backdrop. Switching this mode off, will reload the custom 2d backdrop set by the user and reload the previous background the avatar was already in.
  • added PRO version initial splash screen
  • added loading screen hint (on what FaceRig is currently loading/processing)
  • fixed autosave/autoload for Hide Interface, Look at camera, Hide Logo, Tongue Enabled, Custom Action Enabled
  • added support for special triggered animations on props.
  • added support for arms and hands puppeteer with keyboard and mouse. Yvonne is the only avatar supporting this feature at the moment. Arms are controlled by default with Shift + Left Click / Shift + Right Click and additional Ctrl key if you want to rotate the hand in place.
  • GamerSlug can now look into the camera
  • Added new avatar Hatzi. It has a special pose action on ears. You can trigger it by switching Enable Custom Actions to ON and pressing the V key.
  • Added two default props on Yvonne: Visor and Hand Laser.

    • The Visor can be activated by switching Enable Custom Actions (Avatars dialog > Behavior tab) to ON and pressing the M key.
    • The Hand Laser can be seen by controlling Yvonne's right hand

  • fixed whiskers customization issue (features were duplicated and would not work)
  • Karaoke playlist panel can only be closed from the close button on the panel. If you try hiding it by re-clicking the Karaoke button on the side menu, the playlist becomes invisible, but the buttons still have actions binded.

Know issues:

  • at 640 x 360 resolution the motion blur is glitchy. A ghost like figure of the avatar is displayed. A quick fix to this is to set the motion blur strength to a minimum value. To do this, go to Environments dialog, Postprocessing tab, Misc tab and set the motion blur strength slider to the far left.
  • Enable Special Actions check from Avatars dialog > Behavior tab always displays as OFF when restarting the app.

That's it for today :)
We wish you an awesome weekend,
The FaceRig Team :D
