Happy new year! 🥳

We've been enjoying the holidays. Sometimes it means enjoying northern lights, sometimes updating new content to Versebound.
Now the christmas is gone, but the holidays still keep on going. Next up: New year! Next year is gonna be BIG! Versebound will release and change the world forever. But in the meantime, we wish you happy new year, hopefully everyone got some nice woolen socks for christmas like we do every year.
Here are some updates we managed to squeeze into the holidays:
Kuoleman puutarha (Death's Garden)
Finished the second Tuonela Ritual! This one is a nod to a famous Finnish painting by Hugo Simberg: Kuoleman Puutarha (Death’s Garden). In this one you’ll have to collect flowers for a nice skeleton who then rewards you with an upgrade to your Skill! I feel that this Ritual works really well and is yet again a new way of taking advantage of the simple mechanics of our game! It was also fun to make some placeholder art for the tutorial, since we had a proper real world reference!

Tuonela
Continued working on Tuonela stuff (the 2nd level of Versebound): This time we implemented a new mechanic to two of the native enemies of the level: as they die, there is a chance that they spawn bullets. So now you, as the player, have to stay alert since bullets can come from anywhere! But don’t worry, it doesn’t always happen! I’m not sure if that’s good or bad though, since you can never know…

Other notable progress...
- Sprited and placed the second Tuonela Ritual in the map. Always leaves us sad having to replace Pertsa’s beautiful placeholder art.
- Finished the sprites for first of Tuonela’s three secret bosses! A hapless player will soon regret releasing these poxes from their prison.
- Gave sprites to the last of Tuonela’s level bosses Syöjätär, this ogress will stomp you right to next week.
- Sprited our third player character. Way trickier to use, but all the more satisfying to succeed with. Also has a backstory tragic enough to rival Kullervo, but let’s keep her a secret for now…
- Added graphics to the dangerous Northern Breeze! It’s something we have to face every day here in Finland…
See you next year :)
