Note: This update shows the foundation of what the HUB gamemode is all about. Nodes are like groups of objects. They can be anything from a simple wall, a room of a hotel, or an entire house of a neighborhood. The map included with this update, hub_walls, is a simple wall for you to decorate. You can only save your nodes locally right now, but soon the Steam workshop will be re-enabled and you will be able to share the nodes you have already made.
I created the map included in this update with a very specific purpose in mind, but I'm sure you'll find some creative uses for it. I often find myself building music walls in my arcades with generally the same music. By using the map hub_walls to create new "node" items, I will be able to spawn my music wall into new maps with a single click. And if I ever go into hub_walls and update my music wall, it automatically gets updated in every map I've spawned it in.
Nodes are a new type of object that you can find in your Library Browser. You can spawn them in any map, but HUB maps are specifically designed for them. Nodes are groups of shortcuts. When you spawn a node, it spawns a single tablet where you are looking with many other shortcuts attached to it. If you delete that center tablet, all of the child shortcuts that belong to it get deleted too. If you move a child shortcut out of a node, it breaks it from the node and becomes part of the larger arcade save. Nodes do not automatically save. You must flip the big leaver next to them to save your changes. Even though you can use your nodes on any map, you can only save the changes you make to them while on HUB maps.
HUBs are special maps designed to hold many different nodes, each created by different players. Think of a hotel, how it has many identical rooms. You decorate one room in the hotel, while your friends each decorate another room in the hotel. Together, you turn the HUB into a unique hangout for you and your friends. You can host these HUBs multiplayer, or enjoy your friends' work in singleplayer mode thanks to the Steam workshop.
Walls & hotels are just the beginning. Imagine convention halls or entire neighborhoods. The stars are the limit.
