πŸ“ Weekly Oni Memo #19

This time, we’d like to talk about the kanji calligraphy in the logo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It was created for the game by calligrapher Mai Yasuda.

Yasuda-san worked tirelessly with us, writing the same characters again and again until we achieved exactly the look and feel we were after.

Before working on the design, Mai visited our development studio so she could read through the project materials and see the game under development, to better capture the world and spirit of the game.

Mai also wrote the calligraphy for names of the characters, foes, Genma, and stages, all of which you can see on our official website.

Thanks to her work, the calligraphy adds a vivid sense of motion and enhances the Japanese aesthetic of Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

We hope you’ll not only enjoy the gameplay and lore, but also take a moment to appreciate the artistry behind the kanji calligraphy!
