Hey everyone!
After a good amount of time spent bug fixing, we've got a few very important, albeit uninteresting updates for you!
Firstly, I'd just like to mention a few important things.
A lot of work was put into improving network connectivity, as we're well aware of just how many people have had trouble with that. The problem is complicated, and we've always been trying to improve it, but had little success. We've never been able to do much about it. Mainly because we don't have access to that lower level of the game engine, so we can't get a good idea of where things are going wrong between game -> engine -> steam, and have no way to change that.
That being said, we did make a little progress, but I'm not sure how much difference it will make. That's why in this update there will be a small change that may make it suddenly work for you, make it break for you where it was working before, or simply do nothing, we can't say.
Also, you can now find Viscera Cleanup in the Steam Client's Server Browser too, which may help some people connect.
No one wishes network connections would work more than me, but it's just not that simple, and sadly we've done our best.
Secondly, the other main issue a lot of you have had has been vanishing items when using the Janitor Trunk. A truly frustrating thing. Good news is I think we've fixed that after writing an entirely new system for it, one I believe will be very reliable.
Thirdly, we're easing off active development now, and have been since v1.07 but forgot to mention it in announcements. This just means we don't plan to add anymore features to the game, but will continue to do bug fixes, update the OSX version, and generally support the community.
We're moving onto another project now, one that holds promise, and hope to have a releasable version sometime in the future, so stay tuned for that!
That being said, we may very well make more stuff for VCD down the line if the mood strikes us.
Right, that's that wordy bit out of the way, onto the change-log!
-
Maps:
- Added Reverb processing to Incubation Emergency. Game:
- Overhauled the trophy collection and trunk transfer systems, hopefully resolving the duplication and vanishing item issues once and for all.
- Fixed players being awarded for entering numbers into the incident report form counter boxes when those items don't even appear in the level.
- Fixed "Pedestrian" achievement being updated on every bloody player footstep; now does it every 30.
- Fixed worker heads from Incubation Emergency and Frostbite not counting toward "Head Hunter" achievement.
- Fixed levels without mess --such as workshop level "Sanitation Training"-- from causing radical completion scores for players, potentially firing them. Multiplayer:
- Added Viscera Cleanup to the Steam Client Server Browser.
- Made several experimental changes that 'may' improve network connectivity.
- Fixed clients' Always Run setting being overridden by the server, resulting in very "steppy" movement. House of Horror:
- Made the Woodchipper kill clumsy players.
- Made Jacko Lanterns cause the fleshy Woodchipper grind-sound, and not the metallic one. Santa's Rampage:
- Fixed full elf corpses being oddly offset in the level. Workshop:
- Added support for creating custom punchout definitions; allows you to decide what counts as mess and what notes to receive. You can now create entirely new variations.
- Light Bulb mountings can now be toggled on and off by Kismet.
- Added Sand-Trap collision object to GP_Digsite
- Added four TGA files to the game directory that can be used as Level Preview Image templates.
And there we have it, thanks everyone and enjoy!
