Good morning everybody, last week was a strange one -- I did plenty of work on The Battle for Vega, but somehow the progress don't look that impressive. Still, we are basically few bug fixes away from starting the work on the new demo, so this is getting exciting!
Here is what was done:
Actors > Ships: MK5-X, MK6, and MK6-X ships are finally up to date compared to the previous models, all hardpoints were adjusted, as well as HP/shield and movement settings. As those are the later ships I haven't touch them in a while (as I'm trying to test and polish the first half of the game).
Ship Unlocks: The "X" variants of the MK5 and MK6 ships are a secret unlock, but that was never implemented, so they were basically impossible to unlock and play in the game. I'm not going to spoil how to unlock them, but that was implemented too. It took quite a bit of work, as this wasn't part of the unlock system that I previously created, but it's done now!
Files > Backups: While testing the game I somehow managed to fill up my disk space, and this resulted of "unable to save" message and I've lost my progress. This prompted me to create a full blown backup system for the save files - now every time you save it copies the previous file as a backup first. And if for some reason the main file is not readable or missing the system will try to load (and recreate the main file) the backup as well. This covers are main progress files including Settings, Story Progress, Hi-Scores and Best Times, Meta Progression (ship upgrades and weapons), and Arcade Progress.
Seems like only 3 tasks were done, but still, I'm pretty happy with the progress so far, of course while testing I've noticed plenty of small issues with the levels, directives, weapons, and even some bugs. Also I've done a initial test on a low powered hardware (i7-5500U & Intel® HD Graphics 5500) and the game is doing 80~100 fps in the first stages.
