Dear officers, we welcome you to join the most powerful landing operation in history, often known as D-Day, the Invasion of Normandy!
On the 6th of June, 1944, Allied troops begin landing operations in the north of France. This operation will become one if the most important events in WW II history. The intrusion included two stages of monumental scope.
The first stage was an airborne operation during which 24,000 British, American, Canadian, and French paratroopers landed on the shore in Normandy.
The second stage was an amphibious operation that became the largest operation in world history with the simultaneous sea entry of 156,000 solders, with 195,700 seamen supporting and the cojoined participation of almost 7000 battle and transport ships of all types.
The landing of Allied forces, marking the opening of the second fighting line in West Europe, became an important factor in the fight against the Axis powers. Germany was caught in a vice from both the west and east, and forced to fight on two fronts. The new theatre of war blocked German forces that could have been relocated as a last-ditch hope to fight off the advancing Russian army. Thus, ultimate victory was achieved sooner and with fewer casualties. The western frontline became a true symbol of the union of the Allied Forces.
There is no way we could overlook this landmark event in our game. So we have put forth tremendous effort to create an exciting mission!
Your goal in the D-Day mission is to support the sea landing and crush the enemy forces on the approaches to Caen.
A playthrough will include two stages:
Firstly, you will control a few special forces groups that landed on Utah Beach. The main goal will be to destroy artillery weapons spotted from the air in a rear attack. Without your help, your allies on Omaha Beach will suffer significant losses! Shot down with precision by the Germans, reinforcements have been prevented from reaching several beach fronts where they are sorely needed! Halt the seemingly never-ending fire of the German artillery to save hundreds of lives!
The mentioned storyline resonates with the true historic events.
On the 6th of June, 1944, Richard Winters led an attack on a German 105mm howitzer battery. With only 13 men against roughly fifty germans in fortified positions, Richard took down artillery squads one by one. This operation went down in history as "The Battle at Brécourt Manor" and to this day serves as an excellent example of a skilled small tactical squad attack against stationary enemy positions.
But that wasn’t the end of the path for Winters. His party progressed even further, directly to Brécourt Manor. Richard’s orders to his men were clear and simple: «Fire on the bushes there, there, and there, and the house itself. Just level to the ground anything that sticks up above it.»
You are about to repeat Winters’s heroic act: destroy all enemy objects of strategic importance with a handful of units. Choose effective actions to minimise casualties and show yourself as a true hero!
You will unlock new opportunities as you progress in fortifying positions and neutralise dangerous weapons: you and your allies will be able to call in reinforcements and aviation. Together you can seize this vitally important victory!
The second stage of the operation will be supporting the assault of the Allied Forces and fortifying positions near the outskirts of Caen. While you were fighting from Utah Beach side, the Allied Forces on Omaha Beach have not been wasting time: “...it was a challenge for the tanks... but they saved the day by launching heavy fire on the Germans and receiving heavy fire in kind”. But without your support they are doomed to die!
As you progress through the far Caen outskirts towards Omaha beach, neutralising carefully fortified German weapons, you find out that a deadly threat is moving toward the Allied Forces - a tank division. Defeat will be imminent if the division makes it to the troops on the beach with a full complement! Your fellow soldiers will die, and any hope to call in reinforcements will be lost!
You have to crush the immense enemy forces, including the units hidden in the city streets, before the Allied Forces can dig in in the Caen suburbs. Tigers and Panthers will be waiting for you in the narrow streets, and only the competent involvement of the officership, represented by you, will allows us to reverse the tide of battle and drive the enemy out of strategic areas.
