MLRS Field Testing (Artyom, Lead Game Designer)
The vast majority of players welcomed our in-game implementation of rocket artillery, but, due to their comments on our information networks, we’ve concluded that these units need some improvements. And so, without any delay, we’re asking you to take part in an extra survey that you will find in the game.
Correcting Turns in Pathfinding (Nikolay, Lead Programmer)
Pathfinding is one of the most complex and intricate systems in this project. Over the last couple of years, we only introduced some minor changes that couldn’t drastically improve the situation as a whole. However, we’re now optimizing the pathfinding system at a whole new level. In addition to extra time and effort, we’ve hired a dedicated specialist to work exclusively on this task. Last month he managed to considerably optimize some algorithms, namely those related to vehicles making turns. You can evaluate these changes in the latest update.
Our future plans are even more grandiose, but it would be difficult to explain them without using mathematical analysis terminology, so we’ll just hit the main points.
Programmers have a special name for particularly tangled code: “spaghetti code.” Right now we are working on untangling this digital spaghetti in the pathfinding system.
We will also clear our code of little bugs and improve the group pathfinding system (algorithms for joint unit movement, unit combat participation, and searching for alternative paths).
As a result, vehicles will become smarter, and it will now be a joy to control them. In order to show you how difficult the whole process is and what the cost of the tiniest error is, I’ve picked a GIF animation that I would like to show you: :)
Continuing to Fix Bugs (Jean, Lead Tester)
The closer our release date is, the more attention we have to pay to fixing bugs and improving the project’s technical reliability. Today I would like to tell you about an error that we have named “High Jump.” It cropped up at the mortar detachment in the Operation Niwi mission. It would be best for you to see it with your own eyes...
