Did you know Toxic Crusaders used to have a comic book series? We wanted to incorporate the spirit of that piece of Toxie history into the game via motion comics!
Concepting Out Comic Cutscenes
We wanted to drive the story of the game via comic cutscenes as a direct reference to the original comic runs of the Toxic Crusaders in the early 90s.
Artist Steve Gregson drew up sketches for all of the motion comics players will be able to see in-game! Check out some of the panels he worked on below, going from concept sketch to final design:

Continuing After Many Years–I Mean, Days!
It’s no question we wanted Toxic Crusaders to act as “the Season 2 that we never got” from the original cartoon. This was an important fact that we wanted to highlight, so much so that we even have some of the in-game characters–in true 4th wall-breaking fashion–make direct nods to this continuity between the game and the cartoon.

Bringing (Back) Personality
We’re delighted to be working with TeamFourStar, who are providing all of the voiceover lines for each character! We’ll go into more detail on our team-up with them at a later date, but, for now, it’s comics, in-game comics, and motion comics galore!

We’re excited to share more about Toxic Crusaders as we continue on with development!
