Revenge of the Mage has entered the Early Access phase, and we’re thrilled to share what’s coming. To celebrate, there is a launch discount. The Early Access version will feature multiple multiverses, Mage Archetypes, Spells, Cards, and Permanent Upgrades, with more content added regularly.
Game Features
In Revenge of the Mage, your journey begins in the Safe Haven (HUB), where you’ll choose from three Mage Archetypes, some unlockable with gold. (Two more Archetypes are coming soon.) The final count won’t stop at five, we have plans for more Archetypes in secret! And we’d love to hear your suggestions to add into the game! We also welcome ideas for spells, permanents, or cards.
If you are interested, here is the Roadmap that we have started filling up, in a few days more details will be revealed!
You'll also find a Permanent Upgrade Station to enhance abilities that affect all Archetypes, so you won’t have to re-unlock or upgrade for each one. But be careful—dying in a multiverse means dropping 75% of your gold. You’ll need to fight your way back to retrieve it, or it’s lost for good. After defeating a multiverse boss and securing the seed, the next portal opens for you to either return or continue the journey. We encourage you to push forward to Archmage's Doom (Very Hard Difficulty)!
The Difficulty
Our game has two types of difficulties: initial and scaling. The initial difficulty is selected when interacting with the portal to travel to a multiverse, with four difficulty settings available. The difficulty won’t affect the first multiverse, as it’s a warm-up. Scaling difficulty increases as you progress in the game. The bar in the top right corner displays both the selected initial difficulty and the current status of the scaling difficulty. Difficulty also affects increased gain of gold but enemies will be tougher!
We’ve also started creating a RoTM Wiki, which can be accessed here. It’ll make learning the basics and uncovering secrets much easier for everyone!
You’ll notice some stations in the Safe Haven (such as the Infusion Station and Item Chest) that are not yet available in this version. We’ve kept them visible so you can see what’s coming next. These stations are not final; additional ones may be added before becoming functional.
Rogue-lite Cycle
Revenge of the Mage embraces the rogue-lite experience: live, fight, die, and repeat. Each time you return to Safe Haven, you’ll grow stronger by unlocking new abilities and upgrades, mastering the mechanics, and learning from your failures. The game encourages you to become an unstoppable force as you face increasingly tough challenges.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, we’re working on adding Steam Achievements and Trading Cards. We’re also focused on optimizing the game for higher FPS and have added options to launch with DX11 or DX12 (though DX12 still requires fine-tuning).
As a small indie team, your feedback will be important to shape the game to its full potential before releasing it in 1.0. Therefore contents, performance, graphics, (you name it) can heavily change until we reach v1.0. And we are planning to keep RoTM at Early Access until it's called "solid" by the players.
Thank you for your support, and we can’t wait to see you in Revenge of the Mage!
