CryDev evolves into CRYENGINE Community

Hey all,

this week, our current CryDev website will take the next step in its evolution as a community, and be merged into CRYENGINE.com as a new Community section.

As many of you know, the site originally began as "CryMod", a portal for anyone interested in modifying Crytek’s first game Far Cry, as well as the first titles in our Crysis franchise.

Later on, with the release of the CryENGINE 3 Free SDK, it took on its current form as the more-encompassing "CryDev", a community for existing modders and everyone developing games on the Free SDK. With this, we established a split approach for our websites- MyCryEngine.com for the commercial licensees and CryDev.net for users of the Free SDK.

However, with last May’s release of the CRYENGINE Engine-as-a-Service Subscription here on Steam, anyone who works with the engine now has the ability to release their game as a full commercial title. As such, there is no longer a split between the two communities- instead everyone is simply part of a unified community of “Cryengineers”. We were strengthened in this belief by some of the recent commercial titles that are starting to emerge under the new business model, such as “Miscreated” and “ULTRAWORLD” and we can't wait to see more projects hitting digital shelves in the near future!

So how will this merger affect you? First of all, it means that both CryDev.net and CRYENGINE.com will be undergoing several hours of maintenance on Thursday, Nov 27th, starting at 2:30PM CET/ 1:30PM GMT/ 8AM EST. Once they come out of maintenance, the CryDev.net URL will forward you to the new community section on CRYENGINE.com, where you will find the current features in a new design: our forums, a gallery where you can upload your creations to share them with others, and the downloads that have accumulated on CryDev over the years.

It is important here to stress that all current content for these three features will be ported over, so you get to keep your posts, post count, gallery uploads etc.

We want to send a heartfelt “Thank you” to all of you who have stayed with us over the year as this community evolved and changed, and we can’t wait to take this next step together with all of you.

The CRYENGINE Team
