Hey all,
I wanted to quickly jump on and share a little update about the progress of episode 5 and where we're at. I normally post updates exclusively to Patreon, but I realised I've been neglecting Steam a little, so going forward, any updates I post on Patreon will also be posted here.
I recently took some time off to clear my head and just experience life a little, but I'm back now, and myself and Wiz have been making progress on episode 5 ( Wiz more so than me :P ). I didn't take as much time off as I planned, but during my time away, I was mostly working on adverse effects in my spare time. I then talked with Wiz about continuing The Cabin, and he started working ahead of me to get some writing done, so once I was done with Adverse Effects, I could jump straight back into the game.
I can now confirm that he has finished writing episode 5, so when I'm finished with adverse effects, I'll be jumping straight into that. Wiz also isn't going to be waiting around for me; he's going to move on and start writing episode 6, and basically he'll keep going with the writing until the game is finished. Then he can sit back and chill while I work on the art.
Speaking of adverse effects, working on it in my spare time was slow going, but it's finally almost finished. I have another 17 renders and 4 animations that need setting up (I should have those finished this weekend), and then I just need to render another 8 or so animations and about another 50 renders. I'm hopeful I'll have everything finished in 2 weeks, and once done, all I have to do is add the animations to the game, add music or SFX, and add the achievements, then just test it all out.
Which means adverse effects should be out in October, and I'll be starting work on episode 5 of the cabin in October too. I talked a little on Patreon about what we'll be doing in the future too in regards to other mini games, but I can't remember if I talked about it here, so I might as well share it here. Going forward, I don't want to work on too many mini games, even though we really need to, because the cabin is at a point now where it's making around $200 a month and both Wiz and myself are doing this full time, so working on a mini game really helps us pay the bills and also stay motivated in the industry.
That being said, mini games can also be a pain since, at least for me, they turn into something way bigger than they were ever intended to be. Adverse effects were only supposed to be around 150–200 renders, but now they're pushing over 700 with around 40 animations. And Norstrum's treasure is looking like it'll be over 2,000 renders when it was supposed to be around 300–500. Which is why, if we do work on another minigame, it'll only happen if Wiz is a decent amount ahead with the writing. If he gets to the point where he is a full episode ahead of me, then he'll be free to write for a mini game while I do the art on the cabin, and then when he's done with that and I've finished the art on the cabin, he'll move on to writing the next episode of the cabin while I do the art on the new mini game.
He's already started plotting out the next minigame, which will be a sequel to Emi. I know a lot of people have been waiting for it, so for those of you that have, rest assured, it's finally happening, and it'll be a little bit larger than the original.
I think I've known you all long enough. I'll stop rambling now and let you get back to enjoying your day or night. I'll do another update post when I have more news.
Thanks,
Cell
