Nordic Ashes - Major Update
With this update we wanted to distance our game from the rest of Survivor-themed games. We’ve decided to focus on the essence of the Roguelike genre, inspired by top games like The Binding of Isaac and Rogue Legacy among others, but not forgetting that fun part of Survivor games: the pressure of waves and the satisfaction of defeating many enemies at once, like in Vampire Survivors or 20 Seconds till Dawn.
As you all know, at first, we wanted to develop a more Roguelite game, with buffs between runs that made you more powerful each time. However, the Roguelike allows us to make a much deeper gameplay with more personality. It's a concept that excites us as game developers and we hope you like the result as much as we do.
The Roguelike has taken a great weight in our game and you will notice it when you play it. We really want to know what you think and your first impressions on all these new changes!
MIDGARD
The realm of Midgard has been redesigned bringing it to life. You will find beautiful ruins and vegetation scattered around the world.
Heart containers
One of the most important changes that you will notice as soon as you start playing this new adventure is the vitality system. Each heart is now divided into 2 pieces, so each hit will only reduce half a heart container. This will allow you to last much longer. This change allows us to have better control the damage inflicted, although we warn you, beware of the bosses…
In addition to the Red Hearts, Blue Hearts, or Soul Hearts, have appeared. Unlike the red ones, once you lose them, you won't get them back unless you find specific items.
You will notice this change with Hafgrim in particular, since he now has just one red and one blue heart container, making it more difficult (but also more challenging) for him to survive. However, Axeldör and Thyra maintain the same number of life containers as before.
Secrets!
We want this Universe to be full of relics that allow you to play totally different runs each time.
Some of these relics will be available from the beginning and can be found in altars or in "alternate dimensions". However, you will have to complete multiple achievements in order to unlock them all!
Some relics have such powerful effects that can completely change the course of your run!
Altars!
Explore Midgard as fast as you can to find these mystical structures and get their rewards, be it relics or chests. This may decide the future of your survival.
Gold!
There are multiple ways to obtain gold. You might earn a few coins by defeating enemies, but chances are you'll get a good handful from destroying wooden crates. You’ll soon learn why gold is so important in times of scarcity…
Active and Passive Relics!
In the Yggdrasil Universe, you will be able to find many Relics. Broadly speaking, they can be divided into Active and Passive Relics. Active Relics can be leveled up to make them more powerful and are focused on defeating enemies. However, Passive Relics will grant you really useful upgrades.
Glossary!
The Glossary gathers all the content of the Yggdrasil Universe. Here you’ll be able to see all the Secrets and Relics you have unlocked and those you still have to find.
