The SMG is another weapon, like the shotgun, that lets you move quickly. The advanced electronics mentioned in the text means that the weapon links to your suit, triggering the thrusters to compensate for recoil. We call this "suit integration" and weapons that have it are more accurate when in flight than when fired from a surface.
