I have just been informed that new accounts have all the backgrounds turned to black by default. Especially with the game releasing in the past week this was defiantly not a bug that I would have wanted going out for all your first impressions. I have already fixed in the next update going live very soon but until then.
In the settings you can go to Video then change the Background Opacity to 100% (or anything else).
I do deeply apologise for anyone who had a bad impression due to this.
