Hello All!
Back with another dev log for the Lost Isle. Whether you were celebrating the 1st or the 4th, we hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend. I personally have been going to sleep every night for the last week to the sound of fireworks. Even my dog is getting used to them at this point. Or he's just living in a state of constant fear brought on by horrors beyond his understanding. It can be hard to tell.
This week we're going to get back on track with our weekly dev logs. We've been working on a piece to cover how NPCs will work in our fantasy world. At the same time we've also been putting a lot of work into making those NPCs function. The videos and images we had for the dev log just weren't cutting it when you compared them to how far we've come. After delaying and delaying, we decided to put that one off entirely and knock out some other topics. We'll come back to it in a minute. In the meantime:

Transportation.
There are quite a few walking simulators out there with fantastic game play. Simulation games definitely have their place in the market, but we didn't feel like that matched our vision for the Lost Isle. So, scattered around the world in Monuments and Landmarks, you'll find portals waiting for you. We've placed some of these in treasure rooms at the end of Monuments so that you don't have to re-traverse jumping puzzles and enemy encounters you may have skipped.

Others have been placed like McElroy elevators in our Wizard Tower Monument. Because masters of the arcane shouldn't be bothered with primitive stairs. After all, it wasn't until the 20th century that we decided to standardize the height of stairs. Even now, stairs are still quite the threat to the very young and elderly. A bunch of old wizards, witches, mages, and enchanters really shouldn't have to deal with an inconvenient death trap.
How else are we going to use them? We're currently fleshing out more of our ideas on how this magic can be used in the player's day to day life. Should you, with enough knowledge and power, be able to drop them wherever you want? Or will that make life for griefers and raiders too easy? A mild convenience in the hands of some prey players could be an overpowered tool in the hands of others.
We're hoping you'll help us figure out a good balance in the upcoming beta. There's a difficult balance to strike between working quickly and working healthy when we're this close to being ready for other people to explore our world. We hope you'll continue to be patient as we navigate that balance.
Thanks much for reading. More to come!
