Hi everyone!
The most important thing first: our Community Alpha is about to start. It comes later than we told you it would, and we are sorry for the wait. Get on the Discord so you can have a shot at testing the alpha.
This one covers a lot of ground. The game has a new opening, you can board an enemy ship instead of sinking it, the building system was rebuilt from the sockets up, and the settlement finally has an economy running in it. Here is everything that changed.
A New Opening Voyage
A new character in a new world no longer wakes up on a beach. You start aboard a ship in pursuit of a traitor, and the chase runs through fog, a British intervention and an escalating ambush before your ship goes down and you wake up on a shore as a castaway.

Boarding
You can now take an enemy ship instead of putting it on the bottom. Once a ship is disabled you can begin a controlled approach from the helm, the two hulls lock together side by side, and you join your boarding party against the British defenders on the other deck. Beating them is a full alternative to sinking.

Building 2.0
The old building grid is gone, replaced by a socket system with far more reliable snapping and rotation that does what you expect. Quick Build handles straight runs and runs with several corners, for walls, foundations, roofs and stairs, so a long wall goes down in one action instead of piece by piece. There is a free camera for larger layouts, with third person as the default view, and the catalogue now holds 133 pieces across 10 groups, including a new 10-piece Stone Poor set.
The Settlement
In Devlog #2 a recruited castaway could gather and haul, and that was it. Now they keep their own identity, and seven professions make up the first settlement economy: lumberjack, stonemason, hunter, forager, cook, fisherman and quartermaster. They draw from persistent storage, deliver their production at the end of the day, and work better as the comfort of your settlement improves. The new Pantry keeps the place supplied with food and rations, the large shipyard has its model in the game, and progression moved into the Captain's Chart, which groups it into eight Courses and lets you track several goals at once.
A More Physical World
Wrecks, loot containers and a number of props can be broken apart now, leaving debris that stays where it falls and matches the material it came from. Trees give species-specific logs, with the upper trunk and the stump harvested separately from the main fall, and points of interest and paths now follow the actual terrain of the islands instead of sitting on top of it. The world also went through an art pass covering underwater vegetation, island mapping, day and night lighting and the foliage shaders, and extended streaming and culling mean distant detail costs much less to keep on screen.
Interface, Survival and Audio
The inventory picked up the handling it was missing: dragging to spread a stack across slots, half stacks, Loot All, Deposit All, Sort, Quick Stack, Restock, and quicker hotbar assignment. On the survival side the stamina meter switches to AIR the moment you go under, drowning escalates in stages you can read before it kills you, hunger warnings are harder to miss, and the first torch is finished. The music now adapts to whether you are exploring or fighting, the crew reacts out loud and sings shanties while you sail, and wildlife and characters both have a fuller set of vocals behind them.
Performance and Multiplayer
A broad optimization pass went across vegetation, water, NPC navigation, characters, ships, audio and the HUD, simulation scales down with distance, and the lower graphics tiers use cheaper foliage and lighting. Co-op got a round of fixes as well: players spawn on terrain that has finished loading, tree destruction and foliage harvesting and world item pickup sync correctly, cannon effects are visible on the client, NPC damage registers, the player limit is handled, and everyone is told when the host leaves the session.
That is the update. Thank you for reading!
See you out there!
