COMMUNITY GAZETTE 8 - Nightlife Feature Reveal

Hey everyone, Nil here! :)

I thought it was time to take the driver’s seat when it comes to revealing what we’ve been cooking up for the Glamuros Nightlife Update. ːcrt_Luckː

After another round of silent cave work, we can’t wait to show you all the exciting new features we’ve packed into this release. The game really is becoming something unique, and that’s thanks to all the years of work we’ve put into it with the help of you guys! Everyone in the community has been nothing but awesome.

We decided to do this in one post instead of the multiple posts we originally planned. So here we go! Let’s reveal the highlights!

EVENTS

Events are the nights when your resort stops being just a building and becomes the place to be. Set the scene, get the right performers together, build up the hype, and watch the crowds roll in with full wallets and high expectations. Pull it off and your tower becomes the talk of the city. Mess it up, and you’ll have a very quiet room full of very disappointed people.

Each event requires the right venue, hired contractors for the night, and the proper equipment to make it a success. Optional boost items can help increase the hype, which determines how packed your venue gets and how much you earn from ticket sales.

Some of our veteran players will probably remember the old event system from before the EOTC era, which was removed during the overhaul. This time, it’s been completely redesigned from the ground up with a brand-new system that’s more engaging, more detailed, and, most importantly, more fun! ːcrt_Luckː

Each event type comes with its own unique elements, and there are 13 different event types to discover! The public test will begin with 2 event types unlocked, while the full release will have all 13 event types available.

Here’s the full lineup, starting with the 2 that will be available in the playtest.

Theater Show: The Spotlight Event

A scripted stage play performed by a full cast and crew in a seated venue. It's the most elaborate show you can stage, but a strong lead cast is key to filling the hall and justifying premium ticket prices.

How it works:

  • Every show needs actors, so you’ll need to cast your leads. You can also cast an optional King as the headliner, but leave the role empty and the audience will notice. Each actor’s Star Appeal increases the show’s hype, while their Talk Value lets you charge higher ticket prices. Book bigger names, sell bigger tickets.

  • Choose how many Stage Crew and Sound Engineers to hire from your contractor pool. Stage Crew prepare the stage and handle props, while Sound Engineers operate the Stage Control Desk during the show. A Proscenium Stage and Stage Control Desk are required, while Speakers and Smoke Machines add extra hype.

  • Go prime time! Scheduling your show in the evening gives it a big hype bonus, and hosting it in a high prestige Performance Hall attracts an even bigger crowd.

  • Reputation carries over. A history of great shows boosts your audience draw, while a string of flops will drag it down.

So nail the casting, pick the right time, and a single evening show can fill your pockets in no time.

Marching Band Parade: The Roaming Event

A marching band takes over your resort, marching floor by floor and turning every corner into a celebration. It's loud, theatrical, and surprisingly effective at getting guests out of their shells and joining the excitement.

How it works:

  • The band doesn't wait for the crowd to come to them, they patrol the route you set and bring the show straight to your guests.

  • Build your lineup with mix of the tree sections, Snare Drummers, Tubists, and Color Guard members.

  • More players, more hype. Every band member adds hype, and fielding all three sections together earns a variety bonus.

  • Guests tip as they watch! Instead of selling tickets, you earn tips from the crowd. Send your band where there’s plenty of foot traffic to attract more guests and earn more.

The perfect way to lift the mood across the entire tower without taking up a venue.

The Rest of the Lineup

DJ Battle: Two DJs go head to head to win over the crowd. Expect high energy, packed dance floors, and solid bar sales

Fighting Night: A live combat sports event with a loyal crowd. The venue fills up, and guests stick around late into the night.

LAN Party: A PC gaming event held in the gaming room. Long sessions, little movement, and lots of snacking keep guests glued to their screens.

Live Karaoke Show: A karaoke night with a full recording and streaming crew. Guests perform live for an in-room audience and viewers watching from home.

Book Launch: An author shares and signs their latest release. A quieter event with an engaged crowd that pairs well with a nearby bar or cafe.

Neon Paint Day: Guests paint each other and the walls under UV lights. A popular, highly photogenic event that leaves behind a colorful mess to clean up.

Live Concert: A ticketed live performance and one of the biggest attractions you can schedule. Draws new guests into the resort who might not otherwise visit.

Comedy Special: A stand up performance in a seated venue. A guaranteed crowd pleaser where front row guests may even become part of the show.

Business Meeting: A hosted corporate event. It may not be flashy, but it keeps rooms busy during quieter days and brings in guests who dine well.

Cocktail Unveiling: The bar puts a new signature drink in the spotlight with a dedicated event. Draw a crowd, build hype, and get guests talking about the new drink.

Menu Premiere: The restaurant puts new dishes in the spotlight with a dedicated event. Draw a crowd, build hype about the new additions to the menu.

CALENDAR

We're excited to introduce the Calendar!

This is where you can manage events, check current and upcoming trends, and easily keep track of what day and week of the month you're on.

TRENDS

With social media, there's a trend here, an anti-trend there. Trends are everywhere, so we're introducing Trends!

Trends affect the whole week, making customers more or less likely to want certain things or take certain actions.

It could be a cool new cocktail that everyone suddenly wants to try, or a celebrity declaring saunas lame and sending everyone straight to the hot tub instead.

NEW ROOM STRUCTURE TYPES

Some of the new room structures also being introduced with this update

Now we have 2 brand new room structure types, bringing the total to 4!

The original two are still here: Basement Rooms for underground spaces and Standard Rooms for above ground spaces.

Joining them are High Ceiling Rooms and Multi Floor Rooms. These new room structures add another exciting layer to the game, influencing both your guests and your design.

High Ceiling Room

We were desperately in need of rooms with larger spaces for things like performance halls in Nightlife, as well as upcoming content such as swimming pools in Seasons. So here come High Ceiling Rooms! These are standard rooms with double height ceilings, giving you more vertical space and new design possibilities.

We're also planning to add even more room structure types in the Architecting Heights update, such as corner suites, rooftop rooms, and atriums.

Multi-Floor Room

Multi Floor Rooms are one of the most requested features from our community. These rooms consist of multiple connected subspaces.

You can create them by placing interior stairs inside standard rooms. This links two rooms together while keeping their spaces separate, and you can expand them to include up to 5 floor subrooms.

Most room types can also be turned into Multi-Floor Rooms, giving you even more flexibility and new design possibilities.

ANIMATORS

Meet the new mascots! Animators are costumed performers who roam the resort, spreading smiles, stirring up fun, and keeping the good vibes rolling, literally!

Entertain the crowd! Animators grab a costume from the Costume Hanger before heading out to entertain the resort. Assign them a patrol route or room, or let them free-roam busy public spaces looking for a crowd. Wherever they go, Animators break into a little dance, spreading positive moodlets to nearby guests and giving the room a temporary boost to decoration and prestige. Returned costumes become available again, so no two mascots can wear the same suit!

MAIN LOBBY & POLICIES

Every resort needs a front door. The Main Lobby is a new room you'll build right at the start of the game, with an Information Desk. And it's not optional: No lobby, No opening day.

The Main Lobby is your resort's gateway. It's the one room every resort needs before it can welcome its first guest. Its opening hours work alongside the shift hours you've already set for individual venues. Think of the lobby as the master switch for the tower: if it's closed, the resort can't operate.

Staff it or don't, but guests will notice. You don't need to keep the Information Desk staffed to keep the resort open. But when guests stop by with a question and find an empty desk, don't expect them to be thrilled about it.

Opening day deserves a little fanfare. The first time your resort opens its doors, you'll get a small celebration to mark the occasion. You can close your resort and reopen it whenever you like, but the opening-day celebration only happens once.

This is also just the beginning of a broader look at Policies. More options are on the way, including ways to let you decide which tasks your staff tackle first. We'll expand on these in a future update, alongside the larger UI and translation pass planned for Translations & UI Overhaul.

VENDING & SHOPS

We've also been doing some housekeeping and expanding things behind the scenes for your vending machines and shops.

Vending has been rebuilt as its own proper system, rather than being scattered across menus, items, and pricing. It has been rebuilt around two clear menu types: Cuisine Menus and Vending Menus.

Vending Menus sell inventory items directly, like a Souvenir Shop selling keychains or a Cold Drink Vending Machine selling bottled water straight from inventory.

Cuisine Menus are for items crafted from multiple inventory ingredients, like a chef turning eggs, milk, and flour into a crepe. In other words, if it’s a single inventory item that isn’t crafted, it belongs in the Vending Menu. No more turning a cigar inventory item into a separate cigar menu item.

While we're on the subject, the new ATM is a bit of an outlier here, it doesn't run on inventory like the rest of the vending system. Guests use it from time to time, and you pocket a small transaction fee each time. Simple, passive, and worth a mention while we're talking machines.

Three new shops join the lineup. Each one is its own standalone room, but also brings a vending and shops to the system:

PHARMACY

A little extra care for your guests' health, casino style. The Pharmacy covers everything from painkillers to hangover cures, with two ways to shop: the self-service OTC Kiosk for over-the-counter essentials, or the full-service Prescription Counter, where the new Pharmacist can sell the complete drug lineup.

The Period Product Vending Machine and Condom Vending Machine, added in a previous update as restroom bonus items, were actually built for the Pharmacy from the start. They're just finally getting the room they were meant for! ːcrt_Laughː

ICE CREAM SHOP

A little something sweet for everyone. Scoop up Vanilla, Chocolate, Coffee, Strawberry, or Pistachio at the Ice Cream Shop, or keep guests moving with grab and go vending offering Popsicles, Cones, and Sandwiches.

VAPE SHOP

A new shop for guests who'd rather vape than smoke. The Vape Counter, staffed by a Store Clerk, sells flavored disposables, while the standalone Ecig Vending Machine lets guests grab one on the go.

EXOTIC CLUB

The Exotic Club gets its own headline performer, the Pole Dancer! Just like your comedians and actors, they get ready backstage before every set, then step onto the Pole Dance Stage for their routine.

Guests take a seat around the stage and tip as they enjoy the show.

KARAOKE BAR

Your bar. Your stage. Your karaoke. The machines are always ready, so guests can grab the mic and sing any night, no event required. When you schedule a Live Karaoke Show, the room becomes the stage, recording crew and all.

LIVE MUSIC BAR

Good drinks deserve good music. In the Live Music Bar, a Pianist and Singer perform together on the Piano and Vocalist Stand, giving guests live music to enjoy while they drink. Hire both, and you've got a house act every night, no calendar event required.

COMEDY CLUB

Let’s bring stand up comedy to the resort scene. Comedians prep once backstage at the start of their shift, then hit the Platform Stage for set after set throughout the night. Guests buy a ticket at the Ticket Station, grab a spot facing the stage, and settle in for jokes.

DANCE HALL

A venue built for one thing: Dancing!.

Guests gather to dance to whatever's playing, mingle with each other, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere of an old-school disco.

While the Nightclub is the big night out with its high ceiling room, the Dance Hall lets the night happen. No DJ to hire, no VIP Booth to manage. Just Speakers, drinks, and a Dance Floor waiting for a crowd.

Want the dancing without the staffing headache? Build a Dance Hall.

NIGHTCLUB

One room, two moods. By day, the Nightclub a regular bar. Then the sun goes down, the music kicks in, the dance floor takes over.

Day to night. Mornings are all about drinks and keeping things chill. When night falls, the Nightclub comes alive, and guests expect a DJ behind the booth. No DJ, no party! If the evening set is a no-show, your guests will head elsewhere.

Disco Ball, DJ Set, VIP Booth, and Dance Floor bring the Nightclub to life, giving it the look and energy to match.

Two kinds of DJ. Hire a Resident DJ for regular nightly service, or bring in a Guest DJ for a DJ Battle. Guest DJs are contractors who come with their own reputation and fame.

BILLBOARDS

Turn your tower’s foot traffic into extra income. Get a city advertising license, place a board, and sign contracts with companies to earn money by reaching their view targets. Or use the boards for self-promotion to bring more guests to your own businesses. Just keep your Marketing Department stocked, and choose your locations wisely, as licenses get more expensive as you expand.

NEW CITY SKYLINE

One last thing before I go. Some of you might remember a quick glimpse of it in our Nightlife announcement video a couple of months back, the lively city skyline we've been quietly building around your tower. It's shipping with this update, filling out the world outside your windows. Everything feels more live with it!

And that's Nightlife Update Feature Reveal! The public test is almost here, so keep an eye out, you’ll be able to jump in very, very soon!

================================== ːcrt_Blackjackː ==================================

Hey, it's Tolga here.

Since this is a community gazette too, a few words about what's next before we close out.

If you've followed the CRT journey, you know I've been talking about "Road to 1.0" since the EOTC overhaul. That's the name for this final stretch of early access. Most commercial indie games start EA roughly where we are now; we started from pre-alpha, as a two person studio, building alongside the community from day one. This update kicks off the era that runs until 1.0, and after that comes "Road to 2.0," already on the roadmap.

So buckle up: 7 huge major updates are incoming, starting with this one.

After Nightlife comes UI, QOL & Translation, the first of two infrastructure updates, focused on the game itself rather than new content. Once it lands we're in "1.0 mode before 1.0": fair to itself, details polished, UI overhauled, translations in, ambiance and balance where they should be. Then three more big content updates, Architecting Heights, Catastrophes and Seasons, round out the world. The second infrastructure update, The New Modes, lands right before Rivalry. And Rivalry is 1.0.

Lots of genuinely fun stuff lined up.

OK, SO WHAT NOW?

Nightlife Playtest

First up, we want the Nightlife playtest in your hands so we can gather feedback and keep polishing on our end. You'll see a post about it on Steam, Discord and Reddit. It's open to everyone, so please jump in and tell us what you think on the Community Hub, subreddit or Discord.

The playtest unlocks a portion of each mechanic mentioned above. Unlike the pre-EOTC playtests, the full update only arrives when Nightlife hits the main branch.

Demo & Tutorial

Nightlife + the UI Overhaul get us to "1.0 mode before 1.0", so that's the bar for the tutorial too. Once the playtest is live, we'll balance, fix and polish while finishing the tutorial and demo as one pipeline. Most of it lands with Nightlife's main release, the rest alongside the UI & QOL Overhaul.

Onboarding:

  • A tutorial that teaches mechanics as you need them instead of dumping everything at once, with cleaner UI/UX.

  • An in-game wiki covering every mechanic, mirrored on the Community Hub, Discord, Reddit and our website.

  • A feature spotlight video series, with dev vlogs possibly returning to our very neglected YouTube channel around the UI Overhaul.

Demo:

  • No longer tied to specific builds, cutting upkeep during EA's faster development phases.

  • Its own tutorial built around getting a first-time player through the demo, not teaching the whole game.

  • Available almost all the time, instead of appearing and disappearing.

That should be it for a little while! Thank you, genuinely, for sticking with us through Early Access. Your patience and support are what let us build this properly, and we can't wait for you to see it come together.

Wishing you the best week of all time!
Nil & Tolga
