As a child, have you ever dreamed that your toys would come to life or, perhaps, imagined yourself a character in your favorite fairy tale? Something like this happens in our latest game...

We all read stories of wonders and magic where good always triumphed over evil when we were kids. Some fables might have crept deeper into our subconscious than others.
For instance, let us look back to the familiar tale of the Little Red Riding Hood. A kind-hearted girl, wearing a blood-red cloak, goes on a hike through an enchanted forest to bring a basketful of supplies to her ill grandmother… There exist numerous retellings, of course, many of which include elements of varying cruelty.
Now, what charming encounters await you in the Darkest Tales version of this children bestseller? Well, for starters, don't expect any polite wolves striking up courteous conversations. Anything that lives in these accursed woods would not want to talk to you, no — it simply wants you dead and rotting in its belly.

As if that wasn't bad enough, there is another defining feature that unites most of the nightmares you'll have to face. Take a closer look — just like our small but all so brave hero, his enemies are all toys... Ugly, mutilated, and deformed, yet toys nonetheless.

These adorable clockwork wolves made of flesh, blood, and concentrated hatred for anything that breathes will be the first living (or undead?) creatures that the teddy bear shall meet on his journey. No room for compromise here — either you or them, someone will inevitably end up in pieces.
And if a litter of dire puppies is not enough to stop our plush champion dead (literally) in his tracks, don't worry — there's always more fish in the ocean or rather nasty beasts in the haunted grove.
For example — porcupines! What do you know about these cute little critters? They have very long and pointy needles protruding from their backs which they use to protect themselves from danger, right? Unfortunately, these porcupines believe that offense is the best defense... Oh, and just how cute they really are? So cute they'll stab you to death!

Something about the way they look makes you remember your own mortality. I wonder what could it be? ːsteamhappyː Memento mori!

Alright, let's talk about something more pleasant for a change. How about flowers? According to some statistics, the most popular types of flowers are roses, with chamomiles coming in a close second. But around these parts, people like to plant nepenthes. They smell just as nice and you don't even have to feed them — those cuties catch their own meals that typically consist of ants, flies, small rodents... plus an occasional teddy bear.

Even as just a sketch, these things still look pretty, don't you agree?

What dark thicket can go without some delightful winged beings such as bats? Not this one for sure. Even the COVID bats would envy the local fauna — scientists would be too afraid to guess what malignant maladies these abominations carry on their sharp fangs.

Suppose someone would still want to adopt one of them as a pet if only to scare other people away. Although we can't say for certain how this monster would behave if a human tried to tame it… But these creatures of the night certainly do not like stray teddy bears barging into their territory uninvited.

In conclusion, you can safely say that... Ah, wait a moment. This just in — apparently entire packs of wolves have been reported missing since last week. I wonder where'd they all go..?
