The last few months have basically been us living off your feedback. We’ve read your reviews, lurked in the Steam discussions, and even braved the survey spreadsheets. It’s clear the current version of the game isn’t quite what many of you were hoping for. Rather than slap on a few quick fixes and call it a day, we’re going back to the drawing board and rebuilding the big stuff from scratch.
So, here’s the big one: MLF: Pro Catch is now aiming for 2027. No exact date yet… Let’s just say we’re giving ourselves enough time to actually finish the thing. This wasn’t an easy call, but honestly, it’s the only way we’re going to make the game you actually want to play.
We are rebuilding the fishing system
The biggest changes are coming right to the heart of the game: the fish fights and the physics behind your rod, reel, and line.
We’re tearing these systems down and starting fresh. Every fish fight should actually feel like a fight, with stamina, fatigue, and different species doing their own thing. Your gear should bend, creak, and generally look like it’s working as hard as you are. You’ll get more control over your retrieve, plus clearer feedback so you can tell whether your technique is working or you’re just waving a stick around.
We are improving the world as well
The Demo also made it pretty obvious that our maps and their content need some love. We’re fixing up collisions and boundaries, making underwater areas less empty, adding more critters, and making sure the fish species, weights, and lengths actually make sense for each spot.
There’s also a laundry list of other stuff in the works: a real tutorial that actually teaches things, full keyboard remapping, controller support, a proper audio pass, FSR and DLSS optimization, new multiplayer, tournaments, leaderboards, a trophy room, and finally scrubbing out all the leftover bits from old systems that keep sneaking back in.
What about the Playtest?
We’re holding off on the Playtest until the new fishing mechanics are actually in and have survived their first round of QA. We want you to test the version we actually plan to ship, not the one we’re about to throw out. If you want to be first in line when it’s ready, you can sign up for the Playtest on Steam right now.
We are not giving up
We know a delay isn’t what anyone wants to hear. If you’ve been waiting for the game to move forward, trust me, so have we. But we don’t want to just patch up the Demo and call it done. We want MLF to actually feel like a fishing sim, where every fish fight is worth it. We’ll keep sharing updates and showing you what’s changing as we go.
Thank you to everyone who played the Demo, left a review, joined the discussions, or completed our survey. Even critical feedback is incredibly valuable to us because it shows us what you expect from the game.
