I think what I love about Lost on Purpose's music is that is feels so effortess. "Of course," I think to myself, "If only I learned to play the guitar I could sit on my porch and strum out those melodies and those words on my moody, 'what's it all for' nights." But of course I couldn't come close. That feeling of effortlessness is actually a fine crafting of existential angst.
The common thread running through "Outside LA," "Love is not enough," "How to close" and "No more," is a feeling of being able to glimpse happiness but not being able to grasp it. There are as many mentions of future wives as there are of being happy to be single and free. The singer doesn't quite know what he wants but he wants it desperately, and we hear his indecision in the jangling strings that pop up every so often.
