In previous discussions, we made a small guide about the firearms of the Zelter world, and it's time to open up the topic of melee weapons, as some of you asked about!
Naturally, in the harsh world of the zombie apocalypse, it is not always possible to get firearms, so you, survivors, do not hurt to know about the possibilities of melee weapons.
At the moment, the game has 8 variants of combat arms, most of which are capable of dealing damage to zombies.
Below we will take a closer look at the performance of each weapon and check how many hits it will take to kill a single zombie.
Iron and Stone Axes
The first thing we will consider is, of course, such an indispensable tool in the extraction of wood as an axe. In Zelter today you can craft a stone or iron axe, so let's take a closer look at the stats of these items.
As you can see, the difference in damage is not that significant, but let's look at how many hits each of these axes will need to kill a regular Zelter zombie.
To kill a zombie with a stone axe, it took 5 hits, while an iron one took 4.
Iron and Stone Hammers
Next, we will talk about no less important items for survival, stone, and iron hammers.
They are used mainly for the mining of stones, iron pieces, and some other materials that can be obtained by breaking interior items, trash cans, boxes, etc.
The attack rates of hammers are exactly the same as those of axes, so the number of attacks to kill zombies will also be the same.
As expected, it took the same number of hits as with the axes, 5 for the stone hammer, and 4 for the iron one.
Iron Crowbar
The crowbar, as the item description says, is great for dismantling furniture, but obviously, it can also be used as a decent melee weapon.
Let's check how different the attack stats of the iron crowbar are.
As we can see from the indicators, Iron Crowbar loses to all our previous tools.
I wonder how many blows such a weapon will take to destroy one zombie?
Based on the test, you will need exactly 6 hits to kill one zombie with an iron crowbar.
Iron Hoe
Another iron tool that we have for today is the Iron Hoe, which is used in agriculture for the most part. But can it be used as an actual melee weapon against zombies? We'll find out right after we look at its description.
As you have already noticed, the description of this item does not indicate attack rate, but can we conclude only from this that it is unsuitable for killing? Of course not, so we test it on zombies!
Apparently, there is no way to kill a zombie with a hoe. The zombie was beaten long enough, even the tool got broke, but there was no damage to him at all. So, those who thought about killing with a hoe, do not even try. :)
Btw, you can also use a hoe to plow asphalt :D
Blade Trap
Yes, you can not hold the Blade Trap in your hands, and manually kill zombies with it, but still, this is a melee weapon and quite an effective one.
The damage of the blade trap is exactly the same as that of the best melee weapons in the game at the moment, iron hammer and iron axe. It turns out that to kill one zombie, the trap will need to hit it only 4 times? Let's check.
Indeed, Blade Trap must damage the zombie 4 times in order to kill it.
Torch
And for the last, I left the most controversial weapon, a torch. One of the simplest and most effective survival item in any situation.
According to the indicators, torch is the weakest weapon in the game, with an attack rate of 1 damage. Let's see how many torch hits can this zombie take?
As you can see from the gif above, I broke the tool on the zombie, and I actually had to think twice before setting out with just one torch.
But if in the case of the iron hoe, there is no attack rate specified in the weapon description, then the torch indicates 1 DMG. If we take into account the previous tests, we can see that Zelter zombie has approximately 48+ HP, so it will take about 50 torch strikes to kill one zombie, and it will take a couple of torches.

From all this, we can make a logical conclusion that you need to use firearms against zombies in Zelter, and if there is no such a gun at hand, then the best option is blade trap since you do not lose HP when using it. If you want to kill zombies yourself without using traps, then the best options are an iron axe or a hammer, but in any case, do not try to kill zombies with a hoe and a torch, do it only for the sake of the test!
