Greetings time-travellers!
As part of patch 1.1.1, the game name used inside the editor was updated from "Ann Achronist" to its official release title, "Ann Achronist: Many Happy Returns". Unfortunately, this name is used by Unity when storing and accessing save data for the game, which means any progress players had before v1.1.1 will not be loading into the game properly after the patch.
Don't fret! Your data isn't lost, and this has a quick fix!
Windows users:
Part 1 - Restoring save files
- Click start, type "regedit" and open the Registry Editor. (Note: Be very careful when changing files in the Registry Editor!)
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Maybe Later Games
- Rename the "Ann Achronist: Many Happy Returns" folder to "Ann Achronist: Many Happy Returns OLD" (or any other name)
- Rename the "Ann Achronist" folder to "Ann Achronist: Many Happy Returns"
- Close the registry editor
Part 2 - Restoring data on skippable conversations and mindmapped characters
- In Explorer, navigate to C:/Users//AppData/LocalLow/Maybe Later Games (you might need to show hidden files and folders)
- Remove or rename the "Ann Achronist_ Many Happy ReturnsseenConditions.dat" file (if it exists)
- Rename the "Ann AchronistseenConditions.dat" file to "Ann Achronist_ Many Happy ReturnsseenConditions.dat" (if it exists)
- Remove or rename the "Ann Achronist_ Many Happy ReturnsmindmappedCharacters.dat" file (if it exists)
- Rename the "Ann AchronistmindmappedCharacters.dat" file to "Ann Achronist_ Many Happy ReturnsmindmappedCharacters.dat" (if it exists)
Reboot the game, and your progress will be back to how it was prior to the patch!
Mac users:
Part 1 - Restoring save files
On macOS PlayerPrefs are stored in ~/Library/Preferences folder, in a file named unity.Maybe Later Games.Ann Achronist.plist. If you have booted up the game since the patch, next to this you will find a file with the full title ("Ann Achronist: Many Happy Returns"). The newly generated file will be mostly empty. Delete this file (or rename it, to be on the safe side) so that we can rename the Ann Achronist.plist file to have the full game name. Now when we boot the game, it will read save information from the new location, and we will have all the save data from prior to the update.
Part 2 - Restoring data on skippable conversations and mindmapped characters
- In the OS X Finder, click "Go/Go To Folder..." in the menu bar (or use Command Shift G shortcut)
- Type in "~/Library" (without speechmarks) then click "Go"
- From there navigate to Application Support/ and you should see "unity.Maybe Later Games.Ann Achronist".
- Any data under "Ann Achronist" should be moved to "Ann Achronist Many Happy Returns", and the current "Ann Achronist Many Happy Returns" data can be got rid of (it may not even exist yet if you haven't entered the game world since the patch).
That's it! Your data is restored!
