Following our article on the Archon, we asked Coralie to tell us more about her work.
What tools did you use when you drafted this character?
I started to sculpt a high poly piece on Zbrush, which is a model at high resolution. I imported it in Blender to grid it at a lower resolution, it is more optimized for video games.
Then, still on Blender, I unfolded the Uvs. It's a 3D process to project a 2D picture on a 3D model to apply texture. I put the low resolution on Substance Painter to apply and paint the textures.
Finally, I imported everything on Unity to finalize the character creation in the game. It is with this final step that we can check if everything worked together and if they are still some details to be refined.

What are the difficulties you encountered?
The conception of the Archon took me a lot of time. He is one of the characters that took me the most work compared to Nyx and Sergei for example.
The Archon is made of a lot of irregular details and lots of spikes and tiny “parts” that go over the model. He was really hard to sculpt and it was even harder when I had to grid it on low resolution, because it is made of lots of little details that I had to do one by one.

If you were one of the alien races of Out There: Oceans of Time which one would it be?
An Aleph, it would be a pleasure to be a sluggish jellyfish, shiny and transparent, floating in space without any goals.
