Hackers & Fake Bans

There are currently hackers in the server who are using tags such as [SUPERADMIN] [ADMIN] or [DEV] to convince people that they are associated with the game, they are not.

Anyone who uses a formal tag such as [Dev] or [Admin] is a hacker. There are no game administrators and we as the developer don't use tags or red names or any color or any indication whatsoever to associate ourselves.

If you've experienced one of these hackers and they "banned" you just note that you have not been banned, Because we only had a month and a half to make the game we made the decision to code the multiplayer client-side as opposed to the more secure server-sided approach. This also means however since we knew the game might be susceptible to hackers we intentionally left out the ability to ban people so that hackers couldn't if they ever got control of the code. They are likely kicking players from the game with a special message that they programmed in to make it look like you've been banned.

That isn't to say that there is no anti-cheat, in fact, a great deal of time was dedicated to stopping people from using basic cheats like spawning materials, speed hacking, etc. However, experienced hackers because of our client-side system are still able to get in since they modify the code directly.

The hard reality of the situation is, unfortunately, because this game was made in such a short period of time we did not design the code in such a way to be completely hacker-proof and it would require us rewriting the game in order to make it that way.

Hackers ruin communities. If you enjoy a game the worse thing you can do is be a hacker because all it does is make people not want to play the game and then you'll have no one to play with.

I sincerely apologize, I've been unable to sleep thinking about this problem and how it's affecting people and myself.

But just remember, if you've been "banned" you haven't actually it's just a hacker writing a custom kick message. And remember that there is no such thing as a [Dev] or [Admin] or any other kind of special role that exists if you see someone with one they are a hacker. The same goes if their name is a different color.

This is upsetting beyond words. I'm trying my hardest to make a game free for everyone to play and enjoy, and I'll continue to work on it and add new content regardless of hackers. It's upsetting that they would take something I had intended for everyone to enjoy and try to corrupt it.

I will continue to work tirelessly.

Sincerely,
Blake Gillman
