Hi everyone!
MidKnight Story Demo v1.058.5 is now live on Steam!
The demo is currently available to Kickstarter and crowdfunding supporters who received access to the game.
As I’m working on the next section of the game, I’ve also been spending some time going back to the parts that are already playable. I ended up fixing quite a few things, especially with the combat, both with the sword and the gun, and I also spent a lot of time working on performance.
The performance improvement in this build is actually pretty significant. On my RTX 4090, in areas where the recent builds were running at around 70–80 FPS, I’m now generally staying above 100 FPS without DLSS, usually around 105–110 FPS. With DLSS set to Quality, I’m seeing around 130 FPS and often higher.
I’ve also seen a big improvement on my older development laptop, where the game went from barely reaching 30 FPS to around 45–50 FPS with DLSS Quality.
Of course, the exact performance will depend on your hardware and settings, but overall the demo should now run considerably better than the previous Steam builds.
Since all of these improvements were already ready, I thought there was no reason to wait for the next big content update to release them. I want the part of MidKnight Story that you can already play to be as polished as possible while I continue working on what comes next.
This update also includes several improvements and fixes to sword and aerial combat, gun gameplay and reloading, enemy interactions and collisions, as well as the new Command Bar UI and a lot of smaller fixes that came from testing the game while working on the new content.
And a first look at Custos!
I also realized that, while I’ve been showing quite a bit of the upcoming boss battle on social media, I haven’t actually shown it here on Steam yet.
So here it is! This is Custos, the boss of the Temple of Roland, and an encounter that I’ve been working on for quite some time.
The fight is still being worked on, and Custos is not part of this demo update. For now, consider this a preview of what I’ve been working on and of what is waiting further inside the Temple.
Now that this update is out, I’m going back to working on the next playable section of the game. There is quite a bit coming together there, and I’m looking forward to showing you more soon.
As always, thank you for playing MidKnight Story and following the development! ⚔️
your friendly indie dev,
Mattia
