THIRD PERSON 2.0
When I first decided to return to ORION: Prelude one of my first notes was "FPS Only". First-Person was always the bread and butter for this game and Third Person was slated to just be revamped for Spectator usage; not gameplay.

HOWEVER, before removing it I wanted to try and revamp the Third Person Module and see where I could get it...
Good news:
= It's a lot better and I wanted to share a bit more on some of the new systems.
NEW SYSTEMS / REVAMPS
Brand New Camera
Procedural Head Tracking
Procedural Leaning
Revamped Melee System
Revamped Recoil Animation
Revamped Core Movement (WASD)
Revamped ADS
Revamped Sprints
Revamped Rolls
& more.
CORE MOVEMENT
This relates to the fundamentals of the entire system; how it feels to simply move around the world and control your character. The difference on this core area is night and day.
>> ORIGINAL
= Very Stiff
>> EXPERIMENTAL
= Very Cool
EVASIVE (+ADS)
Beyond core movement updates there's also been improvements towards extended features like Evasive Maneuvers (rolling) and ADS Combat for Third Person.
>> ORIGINAL
Somersault / Cart-Wheels,
Stiff ADS with no alignment to crosshair.
>> EXPERIMENTAL
Tucked Leaps & Rolls.
Procedural alignment to crosshairs.
MELEE COMBAT
The updates to the Third Person Module also contain Melee Combat System improvements as a result. This will be included in the First Preview:
>> ORIGINAL
Locked camera; very close to the Player.
>> EXPERIMENTAL
Smooth camera; reacts and softens to Player actions.
= The result is that it's a lot more satisfying to engage in horde combat with the Ion Blade and you have additional awareness via the updated camera for any swarms that may surround you.
VEHICLE DETAILS
(PENGUIN SCOUT BUGGY AS THE EXAMPLE)
Third Person details and polish have extended to the Vehicle Systems across the board including entry, exit and while driving.
>> ORIGINAL
Zero head turning / movement while driving.
Hard frame-snap while entering and exiting vehicles.
>> EXPERIMENTAL
Procedural Head Movement while driving Vehicles to look towards the direction of steering.
Smoothed entry and exits.
EXTRA DETAILS
There are a variety of extra features, systems and details that have been added to increase polish and quality further, including:
PROCEDURAL AWARENESS
The new Third Person Module has extra features including a cool subtle effect for Procedural Awareness to objects that are of interest.
= This effect will only softly kick in when close enough to these types of objects and can often gently hint at things the Player can either interact with or something that will benefit them, such as:
Vehicles
Loot Crates
Teammates
Q&A 2026
I am currently working on a large Q&A based on questions I am seeing. If you have a question about something please feel free to ask it.
The absolute best place to do this is on the Official ORION Discord Channel where I am often interacting but I also try to do my best to read the comments here.
I will let the questions pile up for a week or two and then I'll get the update out with as many answers as possible for additional perspective and clarity.
