Hello!
We're back with a new world, some bugfixes, and improvements to some previous Featured Levels.
This new level is a part of our collaboration with Cosmic Radio, the song contest held by peropero (creators of Muse Dash)! This time, we have a high-energy idol-themed level, featuring some of the ADOFAI cast. This is probably some of the most ambitious animation we've had in an ADOFAI level, so extra shout-out to Bingsu, 04_1008, and TeoC for all their work here. Chant the lyrics, hold your light sticks high, and dance along!
New Overhaul: 5-X The Midnight Train
We've remastered another old level! This time it's 5-X, the train ride through snowy hills. We've always wanted to polish up this level, and we had a great opportunity here to work with Juan Diego León. He's the fantastic illustrator who helped us out with our level Libertas, and his take on the winter wonderland in 5-X is really stunning. Firestix also did great work implementing all of our ideas and all of Juan Diego's assets.
Enjoy!
Fixes and Improvements

Key Limiter Setting: In the Pause Menu you can now limit any keys on the keyboard (such as CapsLock, Shift, Arrow Keys, etc.) that you do not want to be accepted as inputs during gameplay.

Rumor has it, someone before you had already witnessed the horrors inside this dark, terrible place... and went missing. In an unexpected turn of events, face the reality-altering chaos that lives beneath... the "Kisaragi Station".
(Note: This level contains mild horror themes that may not be suitable for some audiences.)

Tech Wave 4
KAH - Celica (Remastered Ver.) [by REGEN]
Celica is a personal and fan favorite for its great variety of fundamentals players need to learn when encountering levels like these, such as fast streams, rolls, pseudo-midspin tresillos, and more! For its Featured Level debut in 2026, KAH gave this high-octane FutureCore music a more powerful remaster!
Plum - Crossing Notes [by fir3nxxx & yldo]
A popular level from 2021 thanks to wide recognition! Plum's melodic tunes were beautifully interpreted through fir3nxxx's lovely charting. With help from yldo, VFX has been improved for its Featured Level debut in 2026!
かめりあ (Camellia) - We Could Get More Machinegun Psystyle! -And More Genre Switches- [by Appeal]
Some players might know a thing or two about Appeal's most popular level, which garnered global acclaim from dedicated players who dare to take the challenge. This, is what players call from its very long song name, "Machinegun Psystyle" - a 5 minute test of variable BPM changes, stamina, and agility. Your next stage of glory awaits. Relive the hype that came from the early years of ADOFAI community.
(Note: This track may be flagged by fingerprint systems such as YouTube Content ID.)
Kobaryo has finally debuted in ADOFAI with a striking vengeance! This blasting mix of speedcore and techno is perfect for the AWC2024 registration level, charted by the resident Kobaryo enjoyer, V0W4N, with VFX by GamingGooseTV! Hit the ground hard and ascend through the heavens!

Hello!
It's been a bit quiet, but we're still working on ADOFAI every day. Today we can finally show off what we've been working on: a new level, a reworked level, the addition of local co-op multiplayer, and more!
New Level: Dramatic Entrance
Today's new level actually comes in two forms, Classic and Tech. As a reminder, "Classic" levels are similar in design to the regular levels we've created for the game since the very beginning. "Tech" levels are generally more challenging, and incorporate design elements and mechanics that originated in the fan community.
Dramatic Entrance (Classic) was made by…
Music: Uaaaaak
Chart: Rikri
VFX: prod & TeoC
Art: TeoC
Dramatic Entrance (Tech) was made by…
Music: Uaaaaak
Chart: SaJabe
VFX: ChyaRyam
Art: ChyaRyam & TeoC
The Tech version will not appear in the main game unless you have tried to play Tech levels before in the Featured Levels section, since they use advanced mechanics.
This song was chosen as part of the Cosmic Radio contest, held by peropero. We have more Cosmic Radio levels heading to ADOFAI, spread out throughout the year. Rikri handled the recruitment of guest VFXers for these levels and initial organization, and auth and rKizCora also handled the organization of the Cosmic Radio levels. The artist for Dramatic Entrance, TeoC, is also joining our team to do more art & VFX for ADOFAI in the future!
Level Overhaul: 3-X THE WIND-UP
Today, we've released a remaster overhaul for 3-X. We've been wanting to do this for a long time, and we're happy we're finally able to release it.
The visuals have been re-done to better suit the original plans for the level: traveling through a dark cavern. The new assets are done by the original ADOFAI artist Kyle (I also write these posts) and all the VFX and animation was put together by our team's VFXer Firestix. I'm so happy to be able to make the level look how I originally wanted it to, but didn't have time back when I was rushing to finish the original version years ago.
The song also has a new arrangement by Riya, of Butterfly Planet and Artificial Chariot fame, with a slightly slower tempo. We think this will help smooth out the jump in difficulty that most players face when they get to this world. Did you know that in the original Flash version, 3-X was the final boss of the whole game? Now that it isn't, we wanted to make it a little bit easier.
Main Game Improvements and Fixes
The game now has local multiplayer co-op! We debuted this mode on the Nintendo Switch version, but now it's available on Steam. Play together with friends, and they can revive you if you fail during a level. To enable co-op, go to the Pause Menu and select "Change Players." This will allow you to select a controller for each player (Keyboard Left Side, Keyboard Right Side, Keyboard Full, Mouse, and Gamepad.) Afterwards, you'll select the colors and order for each controller. Keep in mind that co-op is only available for main official levels, not including the Neo Cosmos DLC levels. We are working for co-op support for custom levels in a future update.
To improve our development workflow, this will be the last version where we will be delivering 32-bit builds for Windows. We’ve observed Steam stats and there seem not to be any more people using 32-bit computers in our userbase.
Custom Levels: New Import Level Screen. You can now import your locally stored levels or from an URL to your Custom Levels Library.
Calibration: New screen with improved design and calibration calculation, to better match the Nintendo Switch version.
Pause Menu: New Settings screen. Now descriptions are more easy to read, at the right of the screen.
Level Select: “Custom Levels” is always available regardless if you are connected to Steam or not. If not connected, it will only show your local Library, not levels that were downloaded via the Steam Workshop (including Featured Levels).
Game: Highly improved controller support, also fixed many issues surrounding controllers.
The game now has a new Calibration screen, to better match the Nintendo Switch version
Fixed a desync bug that was occurring when you started a level in the middle
Custom Levels: New Import Level Screen
Pause Menu: New Settings screen.,
Game: Performance optimizations with levels with lots of decorations.,
Game: Updated engine to Unity 6
Game: Better loading screens
ML-X: Ending art now properly appears,
T4-X and T4-EX: Floor icons now have a white outline for better readability.
Game: Show FPS counter with Ctrl-Shift-F
Game: As an improvement from the Nintendo Switch version, you can now use Change Players when playing a level, and it will take you back to the level after the player selection process finishes.
Level Editor Improvements and Fixes
You can now pause the level while it's autoplaying.
Repeat Events: New "gap length" property to skip tiles when triggering events.
And that's basically it! As a reminder, A Dance of Fire and Ice is out now on Nintendo Switch! In addition, we released a free rhythm game on mobile called Rhythm Weightlifter. It's based on a minigame from our other game on Steam, Rhythm Doctor. You can find it on the iOS App Store and on Google Play.
Happy New Year! Hopefully you enjoyed the holidays. It's been a little quiet on our end, but we've actually still been working on the game behind-the-scenes all this time, slowly working on updates. We had to take a bit of a break to focus on releasing our other game, Rhythm Doct
Happy New Year!
Hopefully you enjoyed the holidays. It's been a little quiet on our end, but we've actually still been working on the game behind-the-scenes all this time, slowly working on updates. We had to take a bit of a break to focus on releasing our other game, Rhythm Doctor, into its full 1.0 and then taking a few weeks to rest afterwards.
But now that we're back…we have a new ADOFAI update for you, just in time for the 7th Anniversary of the game's release! Here's what's new:
World AR: Libertas
New Featured Levels: Classic Wave 12 and Tech Wave 3
We also want to let you know that we're almost done with the Nintendo Switch version of A Dance of Fire and Ice, and we'll have news on the release date very soon. If you missed the announcement, we'll also be adding local co-op multiplayer to both the PC/Mac and Nintendo Switch versions of the game.
When we first started making A Dance of Fire and Ice, I don't think we ever could have imagined that people would still be playing the game seven years later. It's been very crazy (and very fun) to see how the concept of representing music as a winding path can be iterated in so many different ways.
Thank you for playing all these years!
New Level: Libertas
We're excited to add a new level to the game! Libertas is a track by Zekk, coming to ADOFAI as part of Arcaea's Crossing Pulse song exchange. Arcaea is a fantastic rhythm game that we've looked up to for a long time, so it's a huge honor to be able to take part in Crossing Pulse. It's available on mobile and Nintendo Switch. If you didn't know, the mobile version of Arcaea actually includes Third Sun, from the Neo Cosmos DLC. Check it out!
Our Libertas level also includes some guest art! A few of the segments were drawn by Juan Diego León, a Peruvian artist we've been excited to work together with! The frantic channel-flipping nature of this level was a perfect opportunity to use different art styles, and we're so happy with how Juan brought our cyberpunk and superhero ideas to life.

Hello! We hope you've been enjoying the game, especially our previous waves of community-made Featured Levels!
We're currently working hard on porting the game to the Nintendo Switch, but we wanted to release another two waves of new Featured Levels while you wait. Today, we have a Classic Wave (levels that follow the general design rules of the main levels) and a Tech Wave (levels for advanced players that embrace community-made design ideas.)
Have fun!
Level Editor Improvements
Tile Shape: You can now select between a more rectangular shape or a more square shape for your tiles
We've attempted to fix some inconsistencies with pause tile & Freeroam durations
The game now correctly calculates beat counts for turnaround tiles (360° tiles)
Turnaround tiles now support 3 planets
Freeroam duration now works just like any other level events instead of being special
Migration mostly works for old legacy levels, but newer levels may encounter issues, especially those on version 15 and above. We recommend that you check your custom levels to see if the tile and beat syncs again.
Game Improvements

Surprise!
As of April 1st, you'll see you'll see a new tile waiting for you in the main menu. You can also trigger it by typing in the cheat code "firestix" on the main menu.
This special update will stay up for a week. You'll need to beat 6-X first to access it, because it isn't quite "beginner" territory.
Have fun with it! We hope you enjoy the little surprise.
If you don't mind spoilers, here's what we've added...
Enabling the crab tile on the main menu will take you to a new version of the game, with new versions of the first few worlds. These joke worlds are created by Firestix, one of our level artists. Once you clear the new versions of Worlds 1-6, you'll unlock a new version of B-X. You can revert back to the normal game by using the crab tile again. The event will go on until April 8th, but you can still use the code "firestix" to bring the levels back afterward.

Version 2.9.2
As of recently, it's been six years since we first launched A Dance of Fire and Ice on Steam!
Over that time, we've received a tidal wave of support way beyond anything we could have predicted. Thank you to everyone who has played, left reviews, told their friends, and made videos about ADOFAI. Thanks to your continued interest, we've been able to spend all these years working on updates and improvements. Brick by brick, we've expanded the game into something much bigger than we had imagined in 2019.
One of those bricks has been the addition of Featured Levels. With Featured Levels, we're able to work directly with talented creators from the community to license their levels officially and put them into the main game. Up until this point, we've been adding "Classic-style" Featured Levels, which are levels that largely follow the mechanics and design ideas that we explored ourselves in ADOFAI.
Today, the first wave of Tech Levels is here!
Tech Levels are a different style of ADOFAI level. They follow new charting conventions, many of which were popularized by the custom chart community after we released our Level Editor. Sometimes, Tech Levels are more difficult than Classic Levels. Sometimes, they just ask for you to be ready for different shapes, rhythms, and tempos than you might be used to. Either way, you'll probably want to utilize more fingers on the keyboard while playing. For detailed explanation, please visit our knowledge base.
Because so many people in the community love making, and playing, these Tech Levels…we wanted to bring a few into the game for everyone to try!
Changes and Improvements
New design of the Pause Menu: We've re-designed our Pause Menu to coincide with our continued development on the Nintendo Switch version of the game. The menu should be a smoother experience now, and better suited to controller compatibility.
Sightreading Warnings: We've added warning tags to a few Featured Levels. These tags indicate the level was used in a community Sightreading Tournament. Because of that, they're quite hard to complete without missing, and are intended to be a test of high score. We've enabled No-Fail Mode for these levels, only for the first time you play them. See how well you do!
We've fixed issues with the game running on Steam Deck
We've disabled Asynchronous Input as a choice in the settings if you're using the Linux (or Steam Deck) version of the game. It was causing some bugs on Linux that we are still looking into.

In addition to the levels themselves, we're introducing a new "radar system" exclusively for Featured Tech Levels! This radar will identify the strength in level's stamina, speed, rhythm, and tech! Check it out in the new Featured Tech section in the CLS!
Please note that the gem difficulty of these levels are temporary / not final. We will be working the gem difficulty system in the future to allow for harder levels.
Backyard Sanctuary Music by Tanger Level by CausticLime
"This level, by CausticLime, is a chill, easy pseudo-focused tech level, suggested by various players for learning the basics of alternating with pseudos. Learning takes time, and mastery takes even longer, so relax, take your time, and let the power of practice do the work for you."
Turkish March Music by W. A. Mozart (arranged by Misoguy) Level by Misoguy
"A musical composition so old only some people of today know about it, Turkish March, has arrived in ADOFAI! This level, created by Misoguy, contains fast-paced patterns and magic shapes! Let your inner pianist flow through your hands as you march on!"
Feral [Hard] & [Insane] Music by meganeko Level by Ma6icCu8e
With the introduction of Featured Tech Levels, two new difficulties have arrived!
"meganeko returns with a 5-minute epic! Instead of one level, Ma6icCu8e has made different levels to suit all difficulties. They are all so interesting and varied that we wanted to feature all of them, for players of all skill levels. Hard difficulty is for players who beat It Go and need extra challenge, introducing pseudo-multitaps and key rolling to the mix, while Insane difficulty is for highly skilled players, featuring faster and more complex patterns involving pseudo-multitaps and key rolling."
R Music by Plum Level by KanoKaz & NumbEr07
"This is one of the most famous ADOFAI custom levels, with music by Plum, a very popular artist in the ADOFAI community. A 2020 collaboration between NumbEr07 and KanoKaz, this level uses Magic Shapes - the use of snails and rabbits to make kaleidoscope-like shapes with the track, while the players simply tap out a stream of consistent notes."
deleted Music by linear ring Level by Nephrolepis & ChyaRyam
This level has been completely remade in commemoration of its debut in the Featured Levels list!
"Through Nephrolepis and ChyaRyam's team effort, linear ring's unique electronic sound has been brought to life in ADOFAI! Complex patterns in high BPMs await in your pursuit of escape before the world gets deleted."
felys -final remix- Music by onoken Level by Editor AlriC
"felys is a 2002 classic that influenced and popularized Artcore, a mix of Drum & Bass and classical/traditional music. The song's lovely and graceful sound touched the hearts of listeners, particularly musicians who were inspired by onoken's music to produce their own Artcore music. Editor AlriC's elegant taste in VFX and charting allows us to experience its beauty visually in ADOFAI!"
Here's a new preview video showcasing this wave of Featured Levels:

As you might remember, we're bringing A Dance of Fire and Ice to the Nintendo Switch! We were so happy to be included in one of 2024's Indie World presentations. Although we've been making great progress on the port, we will unfortunately need to push the expected release date into 2025.
As always, we're taking things at our own pace to focus on making something new and special for the Nintendo Switch version that we think you'll really enjoy!
We'll have more information on what new content you can expect next year when we're ready to show it off.

Wave 10 (v2.9.0)
3000 Moons Music: Zris Level: Bingsu Round like the moon, 3000 Moons is a dotted eighth-focused level for fans of octagon rhythms like those from World 10! Charming like the moon, it has a cool midnight atmosphere that matches the song's vibe, resembling that YOUtopia you've been looking for.
Disk Failure Music: Sunnexo Level: M1n3c4rt & CyanAqua A hard disk drive has malfunctioned! Its memories are being corrupted! Escape from these twisty turns and trials orchestrated by these two viruses, codenamed "M1n3c4rt" and "CyanAqua," that together will ruin your day!
Sonder Music: Shirobon Level: Bin, Vybbles, Rikri, TeoC "How much can you do with music that has very repetitive rhythm?" is the question these four creators were able to answer through this level. It received positive reception for its uniqueness in gameplay but imprisoned those who dared to conquer it. Take a deep breath, and lock in.
VANGUARD-1 Music: II-L Level: yeetyote, kernby, Econ, Cam_ VANGUARD-1 is the oldest satellite still orbiting the Earth. As the planets align with its orbit, you are given the chance to take a peek at the aged artifact's journey around the cosmos. Filled to the brim with tricky rhythms and visual obstructions, you struggle to see a clear route. Will you manage to stay on course and see the trip to its end? Or will you become lost in space?
Here's a preview video showcasing the 10th wave of Featured Levels!

Music by: Cansol Tutorial Music by: Blooky Level by: NumbEr07 VFX by: Firestix
Let's party! This was a really fun world to make. We knew we wanted to work with this piece for a long time, especially with how quick and bouncy it is. It was a perfect opportunity to introduce a new character, our Tiger. Firestix went the extra mile on animating all of our ideas, and we love how it came out. Enjoy!
New Featured Levels
Olie - Temple Of Treasure [by TeoC] Temple Of Treasure is one of the 5 episodes of Everypence, a story written by Olie. TeoC loved Olie's story so much he decided to adapt it to ADOFAI. We were impressed by how he created this adaptation, especially by making original gameplay gimmicks inspired by it. Temple Of Treasure stands out as our favorite because of its interesting gimmick that makes you switch between 2 pairs of planets that are different in speed. Pro tip: be mindful of the audio cues; they will help you during the switch-ups!
Raimukun - Avantgarde [by Team Vega] Team Vega's return to making more high-quality levels couldn't be grander when they published Avantgarde, a level that won the 'Art-est Award' in LOTY2023 for its outstanding VFX made by talented creators around the world! This level is also one of the toughest featured levels, with an average BPM so fast that the rhythms you may be already familiar with were taken to the extreme!
Lokan - Wild! West! Showdown! [by Star4th] Wild! West! Showdown! is a track made for PABAT! 2019, with an animation that tells the story of a duel between two foes for one treasure. Star4th adapted this to ADOFAI for the SMTL competition, where he was given a penalty that states: "The level must exactly have 48 twirls." Wondering where those twirls went should be the least of your worries though, because... Wait, huh? THE LAST TILE IS SENTIENT???
Camellia vs Akira Complex - Railgun Roulette (VIP) [by Econ, Twilight Skylines, ABorinGuy, yeetyote] Railgun Roulette (VIP) is a track made by a collaboration between Camellia and Akira Complex with their powerful head-banging take on Drum & Bass music! This level was made for FAINT, a fan-run sightreading tournament where players compete in levels they have never seen before! This level may look easy, but don't sleep on those visual distractions, they might catch you off guard!
Thank you, Akira Complex. We miss you.

It's the 5-Year Anniversary of A Dance of Fire and Ice!
Thank you so much for playing our game all these years. It's been amazing to watch how the custom level community has gotten better and better over time. The levels that the community has made are so creative, and the skills on display by the streamers who play them have been really impressive. We're a really small team, so we never imagined that people would still be playing after all this time.
We hope you continue to enjoy the game! To celebrate, we've added one new Xtra World and a set of new Featured Levels.
Version 2.7.0

iTIC - Triple Sec Level by Pharah & hyonsu Pharah is celebrated for being one of, if not, the most talented and skilled VFXers in the ADOFAI community for creating levels that are as if he's using a video editing software! He has appeared many times in the previous LOTY events, and now in LOTY2023, he has finally won the Level Of The Year through his most outstanding level to date, Triple Sec!
ああああ - クローバーのやくそく (Promise of Clover) Level by Seodawon & Boleumdal Cookie Seodawon & Boleumdal Cookie won the 'Relaxing Award' category in LOTY2023 through this amazing level that interprets ああああ's song by transporting you into a beautiful dream of warmth and cheerfulness!

It is an RPG Maker-inspired level with a gimmick that is easy to understand, but gets trippy once distractions start to appear!
Updated Featured Level

We've added a few new members to the 7th Beat Games team!
Hyonsu and Paring are two programmers who have come aboard to help us with all sorts of ADOFAI features, especially for the level editor. They work fast and have been incredibly helpful members of the team for the past few months.
Rikri and rKizCora have also joined us! rKizCora is helping us with Featured Level selection and Rikri is helping us with licensing and communication with level creators. Having them assist us is crucial to us being able to add more Featured Levels, so we super appreciate it. It's a lot of things to manage at once while developing a game!
On a related note, our team member Nichipe has stepped away from an active role in helping us with Featured Levels, due to a busy schedule. Rikri and rKizCora have joined to help us in Nichipe's absence, so please don't send Nichipe any questions or messages regarding Featured Levels!
New Featured Levels:
Fog sees it "Fog sees it is a great example of a level where everything is made by the same creator, which is something you don't usually see nowadays and is highly commendable for doing so!"
We've actually included two different versions of the level. Those are…
Plant Guy - Fog sees it Level by: Plant Guy "This level features a gameplay gimmick to keep your eyes peeled for, as the only thing that will guide you in this journey are the sign tiles. Follow the directions, and never lose your sight!"
Plant Guy - Fog sees it (Metal Powered) Level by; Plant Guy "This is the "metal-powered" version of Fog sees it. Unlike its original, this level features faster speeds and intense visuals. Use the sign tiles as your advantage to visualize the challenging hidden pathways, but act fast or one small trip can send you to the void!" (Note: It is highly recommended to play the regular "Fog sees it" first.)
Othinus - Fragor Magnus Level by: Hawkyrious and TeoC "Recall the wonderful voyage you've gone through in this equally wonderful level made by Hawkyrious with rock-n-roll tunes by Othinus! It uses the concept of remixing all of ADOFAI Worlds 1-12 into one memorable level. This level has been given a visual remake by TeoC and a song rearrangement by Erichey to give the level a more refined sound and look. (Cutscene music courtesy of 0mni) (Portal image courtesy of Plant Guy)
Kubbi & Jonas Dam - Up In My Jam (All Of A Sudden) Level by: Kin "This level won 1st place in Rhythm Doctor Lounge's ADOFAI Community Competition 1: Steampunk! With great chiptune + rock music made by Kubbi & Jonas Dam and brilliant decorations and storytelling done by Kin, this level feels like a crossover of a cartoon show! It perfectly gives you the experience of taking a tour around a place you've never been before, filling you with excitement and curiosity while you gaze at peculiar but glamorous works of art."
Inverted Silence - Vista Level by: Econ and Yeetyote Vista is the end product of mixing Econ's great taste in charting, YeetYote's beautifully explosive VFX, and Inverted Silence's head-banging glitch-hop sounds! Wild rumors say that during this journey, your vision may be distracted and the sense of time may be frozen, but once you reach the top, your eyes will surely be fed well with a beautiful view!
(Some assets courtesy of kernby) (Note: This track may be flagged by fingerprint systems such as YouTube Content ID.)
Jade Kim - Love Letters (KOTDARI Remix) Level by: FluffyYoshi, yhld120, pixelo3o "This level won 2nd place for the "Best Relaxing Level Award" in LOTY 2022! Also known as "4-EX" and hosted by Team Vega, it took a different perspective of what World 4-X would look like if the theme was something else. FluffyYoshi, yhld120, pixelo3o, and KOTDARI thought it would be a cool idea to turn World 4-X into a modernistic-designed level with chill but energetic glitch-hop music. Turns out, that was a perfect match!"
Level Editor
Object Decoration: A new type of decoration! You can now add "fake" floor tiles and "fake" planets to your level.
New Level Setting: "Speed Trial Aim", now you can set a goal speed for players playing a Speed Trial of your custom level!

New Featured Levels:
LORELEI Music by: Camellia Level by: Jo Future, Irin, and Bingsu "This level's music was commissioned for the final tie-breaker level in the ADOFAI World Cup! Camellia's music is noteworthy for its usage in some of the most difficult custom levels. This level starts out calm, but like a hurricane, it very quickly ramps up the intensity. Stay focused on the track, and you just might make it through the storm!
(Original level created by NexaLi, PLORALD, Hanwol, Asansis, Jo Future and Nephrolepis. While the original level was made to aim for the highest difficulty, this level was recreated to lower the difficulty. This level borrows some visual effects from the original level.)"
Endless.reality Music by: Ash Astral Level by: Rikri
"This level won 1st place for the ""Neo Cosmos Award"" in LOTY 2022! Rikri is known for making levels that are challenging, but addicting to play, and this one is no exception. With it's triple-planet based gameplay and creative usage of freeroam tiles, this level is an excellent showcase of everything the Neo Cosmos DLC has to offer!
(Portal image courtesy of YeetYote)"
Vigor Lines Yoked Music by: Frums Level by: Daming "This level won 2nd place for the "Gimmick Award" in LOTY 2022! Daming's masterful use of filters gives this level a visual style unlike any other! The charting is beautiful and highlights Frums' tricky rhythms! It even has a cool gameplay gimmick to boot! Don't step on the noisy tiles!"
Jam With Pancake Music by: Frums Level by: Daming
"While Frums' characteristic style of music has an unmistakable flavor, they wanted to try something different for Jam with Pancake. What they cooked up is a song with a great jazz-like taste! Paired with Daming's delicious gameplay and great presentation, this level will leave you hungry for more!"
1, 2, 3, 4! Music by: Cansol Level by: Team BGA
"This is Team BGA's first collab level and it's so good that it won the ADOFAI Level of the Year Award in 2022! The team's hard work on this level's incredible visuals really paid off! But don't get distracted! This level's difficulty is a true test of skill!"
You and Me Music by: しゃろう Level by: IU and Pharah
"This level won 3rd place for the ""Best Relaxing Level Award"" in LOTY 2022! If you're feeling stressed, Sharou's lofi beats might just help you relax! This level's equally chill gameplay will keep the vibes flowing, and the cute visuals will bring a smile to your face!"
Can’t it be true Music by: Zris Level by: Lycklig
“Can't it be true was made for the long-running, community-driven rhythm game music competition: "THE BMS OF FIGHTERS". The visuals for this particular level were inspired by the background animation made by ProjectG. Lycklig's creative use of decorations and track placement makes this level a unique gameplay experience!”

Hello! We figured we'd surprise you with one more update for 2022. After this, we'll see you in the new year!
New World
World XI: It Go (Music by answearing machine, Level by Rikri, Character Design and Assets by Kyle, Animation and VFX by Firestix)
There's a few things we want to note about this world.
This is our first time working with our new VFX Artist, Firestix! You may know him from his many…cursed…works in the Steam Workshop! Firestix went absolutely above and beyond with the animation in this new world, we're really excited for you to check it out.
This world is very fast and difficult, intended for a hardcore audience. You can only find it on "Crown Island", the secret area where we've housed all of our most challenging levels. You can unlock Crown Island by beating the bonus level, "B-X: Thanks For Playing My Game." After that, a gemstone on the main menu will bring you to Crown Island. This is just a little treat for the subset of players who have conquered everything else the game has to offer. If that sounds like you, then we hope you enjoy the challenge!
Have fun!
Additions and Improvements
You may have noticed that we're now experimenting with a "bulletin board" feature on the start-up screen of the game. The rooster sign will feature news related to the game before you navigate the main menu. Neat, right?
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year
This is the final update you should expect to see from us in 2022! After taking a few weeks off for the holidays, we'll be back in 2023 to add more Featured Levels and small improvements.
A Dance of Fire and Ice, the Neo Cosmos DLC, and Rhythm Doctor are all on sale as part of the Steam Winter Sale. If you haven't tried all three before, now is a good time to pick them up. Likewise, if you have a friend who might enjoy rhythm games, let them know about the sale. Or surprise them with a gifted copy in their Steam inbox!
Thanks so much for playing, and for all the support in 2022. It really means a lot. We never knew that people would still be enjoying ADOFAI for this long, but the continued support on social media, the playthroughs on Youtube and Twitch, and over 15,000 community levels on Steam Workshop have all been so eye-opening for us. Thank you.
Hello! The year is coming to a close, but we finished a new world we're excited to share. We also have some improvements to the Custom Level Editor, and some new Featured Levels. New World! World XN: Trans-Neptunian Object (Music and Illustrations by Valerie Halla, Level by Jenny
Hello! The year is coming to a close, but we finished a new world we're excited to share. We also have some improvements to the Custom Level Editor, and some new Featured Levels.
New World!
World XN: Trans-Neptunian Object (Music and Illustrations by Valerie Halla, Level by Jenny, Tutorial Music by Blooky)
For this level, we had the honor of collaborating with illustrator, cartoonist, and composer Valerie Halla! We were excited enough to get a chance to chart her track, but being able to work together on the visuals was an exciting bonus. You can find the level on Xtra Island.
Additions and Improvements
Decoration Dragging: It is possible now to drag selected decorations to quickly change their positions. You can hold shift to move them in a specific axis (axis snapping).
Pivot Icon: Added a cross icon to display where the decoration and its pivot are located when a single decoration is selected.
New Tile Event: Change Planet Size
Copying and pasting floors containing decorations will now paste the decorations over the selected floors.
It is now possible to filter decorations that are relative to a tile by writing "floor:" and the number of the floor. For example, "floor:32" will filter all decorations that are relative to the floor number 32.
Mass event pasting for multiple tiles (CTRL + Shift + V)
Hovering over decoration items will display cyan borders on the decoration objects for easier visualization.
We've added a huge optimization to the CLS that makes loading the level list over 100x faster.
Using the lock on the file actions panel will now prevent decorations being dragged with the mouse.
Featured Levels
We've also added a few new levels to the Featured Levels section! Go to "Custom Level Select" on the Main Menu, then head to the left for "Featured Levels." These are community-made levels that we've officially licensed to add to the game.
The new additions are:

We had been working on Neo Cosmos for a long time in secret, keeping most of the details to ourselves, and hoped that you would find it as fun and surprising as we did while playtesting. Thank you all so much for playing.
Here's a summary of everything new that's happened since then!
Version 2.0.3 (r92) Release Notes
Warning: Gameplay spoilers for Neo Cosmos below!
We have some new Accessibility Features. If you're having a hard time in Neo Cosmos, you can go to the Advanced Options section of the pause menu to tweak some settings.
Hold Tiles: You can now choose from Normal (the usual default behavior), Allow Tapping Ending Tile (tap to end the hold, instead of releasing), and No Holding Required (just tap the beginning and ending tiles instead of holding.)
Freeroam Tiles: You can now choose to be invulnerable during the Freeroam sections. With this enabled, you cannot be destroyed by touching spike balls or lasers.
Custom Level Editor: Minor updates and changes to the editor
Balance Changes: A few changes have been made to Neo Cosmos to make the experience more smooth for the player. In addition, Practice Mode is now available in T3, T3-EX, and T5
New music by DM DOKURO: Our secret minigame now has a new song, by DM DOKURO!
New Localization: ADOFAI and Neo Cosmos are both now available in French and German!
You can read the full list and description of changes in these patches by checking out our changelog here: https://7thbeat.notion.site/ADOFAI-Minor-Changelog-v2-0-1-r91-4c8da3f86f7c4039a9442dcd157cd30b
Neo Cosmos Soundtrack
The official soundtrack for A Dance of Fire and Ice: Neo Cosmos is out now!
Find it on Bandcamp: https://7thbeat.bandcamp.com/album/a-dance-of-fire-and-ice-neo-cosmos-ost
You can also listen to a few of the songs on our Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoV0Pc5bQC6LhGsbNaCGvHzuUP1TFeI1S
We couldn't have made Neo Cosmos without the help of our featured artists: Canblaster 2K6, Frums, Ash Astral, and DM DOKURO. They worked directly with TaroNuke in composing for the levels, and we really love the tracks they created.
If you'd like to support us and the featured artists, check it out!
We're Working On More Neo Cosmos Content
We have three things we want to note quickly!
1. We are now working on adding more content to be added to the Neo Cosmos DLC! It will take a while, but please look forward to it. We were waiting to see what the reception of the DLC would be, and since so many people enjoyed it, we're happy to keep going and add more to it. These updates to Neo Cosmos will be free content patches.
2. As we announced before, we are going to continue adding to the base game. That means new worlds, new Level Editor tweaks and improvements, new accessibility features, etc. are being worked on for regular A Dance of Fire and Ice as free content patches.
3. We're making a minor price change to the Neo Cosmos DLC. After receiving a lot of really positive feedback from players, and surprise at its price, we have decided to raise the price by $1 USD. If you already own the DLC, this doesn't affect you at all! You don't have to pay anything extra. Thank you for supporting the DLC so early. Consider the earlier price just a "super Launch Discount!"
The sales of Neo Cosmos have allowed us to dedicate the time to adding new stuff to it in the future, so we're really grateful for your support and your interest. There's more to come!
That's all for now! Thanks for playing, and check out the Neo Cosmos Soundtrack if you want to take the songs with you everywhere you go!

A Dance of Fire and Ice: Neo Cosmos is now available! Neo Cosmos is an expansion DLC we've been working on for a while now, and we're excited for you to finally play it. It adds new worlds, new game mechanics, all-new music, and new Level Editor events.
The DLC is directed by TaroNuke, creator of NotITG and UKSRT. Check out his previous works and you may get an idea of his game design style! Taro was incredible to work with, and has been crafting this expansion from the ground up for a long time. He has a very particular skill and style for making levels, which was perfect for a game like A Dance of Fire and Ice.
Once you have the DLC, you can find the new worlds by traveling to the portal to the right of the Main Menu!
DLC Features
New worlds: Adds 5 new worlds to the game, each with new mechanics and gimmicks.

Neo Cosmos FAQ
Q: Who made Neo Cosmos? A: Neo Cosmos is directed by TaroNuke, with help from the 7th Beat Games team. We all worked on it together, but it deserves a huge thank-you to Taro for coming up with the ideas, story, and levels. Thank you Taro! It also includes great character art from two artists, SUPERCOMPUTATION and electr1ca.
Q: How difficult is Neo Cosmos? A: It has some new surprises, so that answer will be different for each player! We recommend that you at least try playing the main 12 Worlds of A Dance of Fire and Ice before playing Neo Cosmos. We like how it feels as an extension after playing those, but the DLC does not require that you beat those levels to play it, so don't worry!
Q: Do I need to unlock Neo Cosmos? A: If you've purchased the Neo Cosmos DLC, the only thing you need to do to unlock the new content is to complete World 1 (and the boss level 1-X) from the beginning of the game. You probably have it unlocked already!
Q: Is the Neo Cosmos DLC needed to play Steam Workshop levels that use special Neo Cosmos Level Editor events? A: Yes, owning the Neo Cosmos DLC is required to create or play custom levels that use the new Neo Cosmos Level Editor events.
Q: Will the Neo Cosmos content come to mobile? A: Yes, eventually! We are still working on it, so it might take a while for the mobile version to be updated. We can't really confirm anything else about the mobile version yet. Thank you for understanding!
Q: Will A Dance of Fire and Ice, the base game, still receive free updates? A: Yes! The base game will be treated separately, and will still receive free updates, such as levels and level editor improvements.
Q: Us the Neo Cosmos soundtrack available to purchase? A: Yes! You can get the soundtrack on Steam or Bandcamp!
We hope you enjoy the DLC! We had a lot of fun playing it ourselves. Ever since we launched A Dance of Fire and Ice, we've been surprised over and over again with how many different ways there are for creators to explore new rhythms and new game concepts. The game has evolved a lot since it first launched.
Thank you for playing, and let us know what you think of the new levels!

3-Year Anniversary Update
It’s hard for us to believe that it’s already the 3rd Anniversary of launching A Dance of Fire and Ice on Steam, but here we are. Time has flown by, and we continue to be surprised and honored by the positive feedback we’ve seen from players about our simple rhythm game. We really appreciate everyone who has played the game, whether you’ve mastered the skills on your own, shared your scores with friends, or streamed yourself marathoning 6-X until you finally got it right.
To celebrate the 3-Year Anniversary, we’ve got a few additions to the game this week!
Here's our full changelog if you prefer not to miss every single detail.
Collaboration with “Rhythm Journey”
New World: Fear Grows, with music by Linky
Recently we became fans of a new indie rhythm game, Rhythm Journey. It's a game inspired by ADOFAI on the surface (with tutorial levels for each song, speed trials, one-hit death etc), but actually tackles a different aspect of rhythm theory! It's focused on teaching you different kick and snare rhythms on the drums, so it uses two buttons instead of one. Each song is written to teach you a unique rhythm, from ghost notes to swing notes to fun drum fills. We at 7th Beat Games are all about unique rhythm mechanics so we love it. Not enough people are playing this game, so now we're doing a collab so that more of you will check it out. The new world, RJ, has a special one-time gimmick that's a nod to their game's mechanic, guess what it is…
Thanks to Linky, the musician of Rhythm Journey for supplying the song and also making all the tutorial tracks! And check their game out for their part of the collab, featuring their interpretation of ADOFAI's title track!
We’re introduced two new options for helping players learn levels they’re stuck on.
Practice Mode: With the Practice Mode option toggled on, you can practice a segment of a level that you’ve failed on. After you lose, press the P key before respawning to trigger Practice Mode. This will give you a chance to practice the segment of the song that you’re stuck on. You can exit Practice Mode in the Pause Menu. This feature can be used on both official levels and custom community levels.
No Fail Mode: No Fail Mode is an option you can use while playing custom community levels. This “No Fail” option allows you to continue to the next tile even if you miss it, and it disables Overloading. When you finish the level, the Results Screen will display info about your misses if you have the “Detailed Results” option toggled on. In a way, it’s like playing the custom level with Invincibility. We hope this is useful for learning really difficult custom levels, or having the option to enjoy the full song even if you cannot complete the level on your own.
You can enable “No Fail” mode in the Custom Level Editor by clicking the armor icon in the bottom right corner. You can also toggle it in the Custom Level Select menu by pressing the N key. An icon will display in the corner while you play, indicating that you are playing with “No Fail” mode on.
New: Featured Levels
In the years since the game’s launch onto Steam, we have seen really incredible work done by the community with the custom level editor. Knowing that some players might not search through Steam Workshop to find these creations, we decided we wanted to find a way to highlight them and add them to the game for everyone to enjoy. We reached out to the original musicians and the level creators and will now begin adding a few of our favorites to the game! This way, even users who don’t search through Steam Workshop can easily find these levels we enjoyed.
You can now find these levels by heading to the Custom Level Select and entering the “Featured Levels” section. We will update this section with more levels periodically throughout the year, so you will hear from us again on more favorites we’ve been playing.
Nichipe will be joining us in handling the search and curation for custom Featured Levels. He has played over a thousand ADOFAI levels, and has a great Youtube channel where he tries out and discusses great levels each year, so working together has been a natural fit. Thank you, Nichipe!
We also plan to add these levels to the iOS and Android versions of A Dance of Fire and Ice in the future, allowing mobile players to also enjoy them.
Our first few Featured Levels are:
Final Phase, music by Plum, level design by Daming
Barrage, music by Halv, level design by NumbEr07
Make It Funky Now, music by DOT96, level design by PizzaLovers007
Coming Soon: Neo Cosmos
In case you missed it, we’re working on an expansion to A Dance of Fire and Ice! It’s called Neo Cosmos, and it’s directed by TaroNuke, creator of NotITG and UKSRT! It features a new set of levels, and a few gameplay surprises. We’re still working hard on it, but we do have a teaser to share…
Neo Cosmos will be a paid DLC, but free updates will continue to be added to the base game A Dance of Fire and Ice even after it’s out.
Thanks for playing, and thanks for all the incredible feedback on Steam, Twitter, and Discord over the past three years. We still have more plans for A Dance of Fire and Ice, and we’re excited to keep working on them. Thank you for coming on this journey with us!
