Time flies... It's hard to believe that 20 years have passed since CD PROJEKT RED was founded. The last two decades have been filled with adventure, and we’re so proud to have created video games that players all around the world have enjoyed — not to mention having such a strong, supportive community that has been with us at every step!
Although our studio was established in February 2002, we’ve chosen to celebrate the anniversary today, July 1st, because on this exact date 20 years ago CD PROJEKT (at that time known as CD Projekt) announced its shift in focus to game development. It’s a special date that marks the beginning of our studio as we know it today. It’s where our journey into making RPGs began, and we think that’s definitely worth putting in the spotlight!
But today is not the only day we’re going to celebrate this occasion. It’s 20 years, after all! We’ve got a bunch of activities planned for the coming months, and we invite you — our awesome community — to join in the fun! Here’s the plan:

The Steam release features full cross-play and synchronization functionality with other versions of the game, meaning you can compete with players on iOS, Android, and GOG, as well as carry over all items and progress between these platforms. Additionally, thanks to an update to Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales on Steam, from today, you can now earn rewards to use in GWENT by making progress in the Thronebreaker campaign. These rewards include premium cards and vanity items, which will unlock automatically once requisite conditions are met. If you played The Witcher Tales earlier on Steam you can unlock the rewards retroactively only if you completed your play-through of the game in online mode (with connection to the internet).

Chris: I have sort of fallen off of collectible card games over the last few years, and in the back of my mind I think they've all become variations on Hearthstone. This is wrong, obviously, but it's taken Thronebreaker to remind me of that. For the first ten minutes I was filtering everything through the question of - how does Hearthstone handle this? But very quickly that ceases to be meaningful.
A few initial observations - there is so much here beyond the cards. The overworld map, the resources and all that jazz, the camps. And the writing. God, so much storytelling all over the place. I am a story-skipper by nature, and you can just about do that here, but it's clear the care and pride that's involved in bedding this card game into the Witcher world.

It's saying, "This is the character you know."
Oh, and his carrying only one sword in place of the two you're used to seeing him with in the games? As people have pointed out in the comments below: Geralt carries one sword in the books, leaving the other with his horse Roach for when he needs it. And the show, remember, is based on the books, not the games.

The news comes via a Netflix investor call, as reported by Deadline, in which chief content officer Ted Sarandso revealed that the fantasy drama would arrive in Q4, narrowing its launch down to some time in the last three months of 2019.
Netflix's series, if you're unfamiliar, is explicitly based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher novels, rather than CD Projeckt's video game adaptation, with Sapkowski serving as creative consultant. Showrunning and writing duties are being handled by Lauren Hissrich.

An animation setting for premium cards is now available in the main menu. For new players, "Always Animate" will be the default setting.
Added support for Traditional Chinese.
New controls have been added for gamepads:
LB, RB / L1, R1: Jump to the leftmost or rightmost side of a row.
LT / L2: Switch between opponent and player graveyards.
X / Square: Select your Leader.

Greatly reduced the chance of blocking player progress due to infinite loading screens.
Blur has been enhanced to improve both performance and visuals.
Fixed an issue whereby the player would occasionally lose the ability to make selections with the gamepad after entering the camp.

ORIGINAL STORY 6th December: On 22nd October, Polish game seller GOG - a part of CD Projekt - found itself in trouble again on Twitter. It had insensitively appropriated the trans civil rights hashtag WontBeErased. "Classic PC games #WontBeErased on our watch," it tweeted. "Yeah, how's that for some use of hashtags?"
GOG quickly deleted the tweet but not before the internet noticed, and a stink was kicked up. Not only was it a problem on its own, but it was the third problematic tweet in a handful of months from inside CD Projekt. Once is a mistake; three times?

“I’ve seen headlines spinning Thronebreaker as an RPG in its own right, and I could even understand if it was compared to a visual novel at times. But really, it’s a card game with walky bits.
