Quicksave hotkey. Ctrl+Q (or F11) saves instantly into 3 rotating slots. Rebindable via user.txt for those who want it.
Also, for players experiencing significant slowdowns or technical issues who want to submit logs to us, you can go to Lootmaxgames.com, and go to the Contact page. Scroll down and there is a form you can fill out and attach your log files to.
To get your logs: Right click on Kohan II in your steam library -> Manage -> Browse local files -> double click the "Logs" folder, and grab your most recent logs.
If you're unsure of which files to send, you can ZIP your entire Logs folder and send it as one file:
(On Windows 11) Find the "Logs" folder -> right-click it -> click "Compress to..." -> click "ZIP file"

Beta Branch moved to Default
Howdy Immortals -- we are moving the latest Kohan II beta version (1.3.68) onto the main, default branch! The original 2012 Steam release version of the game will remain playable on the new "original-release-1.2.3" branch, that you can switch to at any time: right-click Kohan II:

The beta branch has been updated to version 1.3.68. Fixes and improvements since 1.3.63:
New "Frame rate limit" option (Options → Video) — defaults to matching your monitor's refresh rate. Can be set to certain framerate caps (30 - 240), or uncapped.
New "Display mode" option — choose Fullscreen (borderless) or Fullscreen (exclusive). If you ever get choppy framerates in Borderless, try Exclusive.
New "Color players by kingdom" option — turning on will cause players to be shown as their unique color in the minimap, instead of a shared team/enemy color
Another multiplayer desync fix added for floating-point drift between different CPUs, via X/Y position quantization
Other fixes for rare resolution and graphics driver crashes
Reminders:
To play multiplayer, you and your friends must be on the same game version.
If your game fails to update (the menu shows an older version), it may be necessary to go to the Properties -> Installed Files -> “Verify integrity of game files” in Steam. If that doesn’t work you can try deleting your Kohan II install folder, or Uninstall, and then reinstall the game within Steam.

If you are encountering fatal TrueType and font errors, ensure you are opted-in to the beta branch, and not launching the default branch.

New auto-save feature - single-player scenarios and campaign missions will save periodically every 3 minutes (frequency can be tuned in Options menu, or disabled).
Multiplayer desync fix - relating to units' vertical-position sync (thank you for the detailed report). Diagnostics added for additional desync sources.
Offline LAN – fixes for lobby discovery in the browser.
UI text fix for Linux/Proton environment
Additional diagnostics and logging added for known conflicts relating to the NVIDIA overlay and driver issues
Note: To play multiplayer, you and your friends must be on the same game version.

Howdy Immortals – a third announcement from Lootmax Games: we're the developers handling the Kohan II: Kings of War compatibility update and modernization. We just pushed the first public beta branch to Steam – here's how to play and what's in it:
How to play right now: Restart Steam, right-click Kohan II: Kings of War in your library → Properties → Game Versions & Betas → select "beta." Steam handles the rest. If you have installed any third-party software to help with compatibility, you must remove those files for the game to function properly. You may need to delete the Kohan II: Kings of War folder and reinstall – a simple uninstall and reinstall may not remove all user-placed files.

FYI: User game settings and preferences, as well as campaign saves and replays, exist outside of the install folder, at your documents location. Example location on Windows 11:
C:\\….Documents\\Kohan2\\data\\User
Beta environment:
A few bugs and crashes likely still exist, but should be encountered infrequently. We will continue to try and hotfix any that remain. Should you encounter any of these, posting in our community forum and general discussion, with a few steps to reproduce the crash, would be greatly appreciated.
We are aware of an infrequent issue related to the NVIDIA overlay and ShadowPlay software causing a crash in the game. It is recommended to update your NVIDIA drivers, as well as disable the In-Game Overlay and Instant Replay features via the settings in your NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience.
What's in the beta:
Windows 11 ready. Rebuilt from the original source code — no compatibility workarounds needed.
Steam Multiplayer. Online multiplayer is back — GameSpy is gone, now powered by Steamworks.
Host and browse internet games natively through the in-game multiplayer menu
Fixed text size on high-DPI displays — the game now renders correctly at 125%–250% Windows display scaling.
Server browser: live internet game list with map names, player counts, ping, game status (in staging vs. in progress)
Your player name now defaults to your Steam persona name; it can be changed any time in the Options menu (applies everywhere immediately)
Invite friends and use "Join Game" straight from your Steam friends list / overlay
Global player chat added — chat lobby on the multiplayer screen with a live player roster and players-online count
Widescreen & 4K support. Proper wide field-of-view (more battlefield, no stretching), 3D portraits, and text at any resolution and display scaling
No CD key required
The classic 2011 initial steam release remains available and unchanged on the default branch — you can switch back anytime via the Game Versions & Betas tab.
Players on the classic branch will not be able to play multiplayer with players on the beta branch – All players must be on the beta branch to successfully launch and play multiplayer matches.
