What is up guys? We wanted to let you know about a minor update we’ve made to the Public Branch of the PC game, with the addition of Challenge Lines in the News Feed. These challenges are a small addition designed to help you hone your skills, explore different skate spots, and warm up for your Skater XL sessions. The new challenge lines offer a variety of difficulty levels, providing opportunities to practice and improve your skating. Want an extra challenge? Try them switch or in the opposite stance.
All of the original map challenges in the game are now available in switch stance too and can be found in the Challenges menu.
We’ll be updating these challenge lines regularly, so check back in the News Feed from time to time to see what’s new. You can check out the first spot challenge at JKwon Plaza by opening the News Feed from the main menu and selecting the most recent article. Then hit “Play Challenge” and the challenge will start.
In addition, Evan Smith's gear has been updated to reflect his new shoe sponsor - Clearweather Footwear. Check them out and give Evan's character a play.
We hope you enjoy these small additions!

Fixed incorrect turning animations in goofy stance.

The ‘more freedom with grabs’ gameplay update is now available on in the public branch on Steam. An expansion of freedom and control in Skater XL’s core gameplay, the update has just been released which makes some changes and additions to the grab mechanic.
Players now have the ability to:
Grab the board at any time with LB / RB, including while riding, during manuals, grinds, power slides, mid-air, during flip tricks, during pop-outs and more. You can also hold grabs through transitions between these different game states. There are no constraints on when you can grab or when you need to release the grab.
Grab the board at any subtle angle you choose based on the angle of the board. There is a unique hand position and pose that will be created for any given board angle. Each hand can grab anywhere around the board including between-the-legs grabs, Seatbelts and Crails.
Grab and release the board with either or both hands independently to mix and combine different grabs.
Cleaned up and more polished poses and animations from previous PC beta release
Much like the original core gameplay, these new abilities are not programmed tricks or canned animations but a series of systems which create movements on the fly based on player input. This puts more creativity, style, and expression in the hands of the player.
Additionally, the update includes the introduction of an in-game news feed that will help streamline the way players stay informed about Skater XL. This new feature will provide regular updates on the latest news, tips, content releases, and more, all conveniently accessible without ever having to leave the game. Now you can stay connected to Skater XL content and keep up with the ever-evolving world of skateboarding right from within the game.
We have also made some improvements to coping grinds, making them smoother and more consistent, giving an overall more enjoyable transition skating experience.

Fire Station Park is now available in Skater XL coinciding with the grand opening of the brand new park in Fort Worth, Texas. The park was made possible by a generous donation from Dickies Skateboarding, and the construction is now complete, making it available in both physical and digital formats.
The park is designed to be accessible to skaters of all skill levels and has a real city plaza feel, offering unique terrain and lines to be discovered. With banks placed generously around the perimeter and ledges galore, the map's diverse terrain provides infinite opportunities for flowing lines and technical skating.
Similar to the physical park, the Skater XL map includes a pump track with grindable corners and unique angles, enabling players to get creative and find new lines. Special thanks go to New Line Skateparks and Dickies for collaborating on this project, and we are stoked to see the footage that players create at this park!

* Please note that these are incomplete features in early development, containing bugs, rough edges and (some amusing) animation and body pose glitches. Due to the real-time nature of Skater XL’s gameplay and animation approach animation and pose cleanup can be complicated and often make sense to focus on towards the end of the process.
Also, as things progress during public development elements may be added, changed or removed in further builds.
We look forward to seeing what kinds of tricks and lines everyone comes up with!
Coming soon for consoles.
* IMPORTANT: Update features referred to in this post are located in the “Beta” branch of the game on Steam. This is a separate stream of development for us to publicly test early or experimental features in development.
You MUST opt in to play this version of the game by following the steps outlined here:

What is up Skater XL Players! Today we are stoked to be releasing a minor quality of life patch update on all platforms. As we continue to strive to make the Skater XL experience as smooth and responsive as possible, these updates are a very important part of creating a consistent experience across all platforms and PC specs.
Today’s update contains the following improvements and optimizations:
Deep reworking of many art assets and systems to give frame rate improvements across all original 1.0 game maps. An average gain of +8 FPS Downtown Los Angeles +6 FPS in Easy Day Highschool on base model Xbox One, with similar increases on low spec PC's and base PS4 and all maps now running at 60+ except for DTLA (which averages 59FPS).
New GPU efficient “Decal” replacement system implemented allowing re-inclusion of extra detailing texture layers, reflections etc. in original maps.
Updated animated elements in some maps including vegetation and environmental features.
Nickname in Multiplayer now locked to platform username to prevent offensive and inappropriate names
Minor bug fixes including PS4 memory crashes, environment and online player SFX volume saved settings not applied on game start, and bug in Replay List Menu where highlight replay from mod map (that is not current map) preview image is not shown properly.
We hope you enjoy these improvements and we appreciate all the continued community support!

Featuring walls covered with the original work of skate artist Lucas Beaufort, and updated features mirroring what the pros will be skating, the 2022 course has all the features of its IRL counterpart.
Back for its 28th Annual Edition April 29 - May 1, the Tampa Pro is the longest running annual contest in skateboarding, and the place where countless legends have made their mark on skateboarding. There are few places in the world that have hosted more skateboarding icons than SPoT, and its contests are the most anticipated of the year for skateboarding's biggest names. Legends like Andrew Reynolds, Eric Koston, and Shane O'Neill have all claimed the top spot over the years.
The 2022 iteration of the course is made even more special by the fact that it will host the first ever Official Skater XL Tampa Pro live fakeskate contest, going down on May 7th, 2022 at Noon PST on the Skater XL Twitch Channel. For the first time ever the online skating community will be able to participate in our own digital version of the Tampa Pro, officially held in conjunction with the real contest! 8 of the best fakeskaters on each platform will compete live for cash and prizes, with commentary by Garrett Ginner and more guest hosts. Tune in to see what the hype is all about!

The first ever skateboarding esports contest to be held in conjunction with the longest running, most respected contest in skateboarding, the 28th Annual Tampa Pro is going down on our Twitch channel on May 7th at 12pm PST with commentary by Garrett Ginner 🎮🛹🎉
This will be a live contest with 8 skaters per platform going head to head on the updated 2022 Skatepark Of Tampa Pro course, which will be released soon.

As we continue to build out the Skater XL Multiplayer and social ecosystem, we are stoked to add another small but very useful piece with the release of Spectate Mode. This feature allows players in Multiplayer rooms to easily watch other players skate and join their session anywhere on the map.
To use this feature, press and hold Y/🔺when in Multiplayer and select ‘Spectate’. Once spectating a player, you can toggle between fixed, orbit, tripod and free cam by pressing Y/Triangle. L and R on the D-Pad will allow you to switch the player you are spectating to other players in the room.
Another small addition is you can now switch camera focus between players in replay mode by pressing LB / RB. This allows you to easily check out the replays of friends and strangers as well as your own.
As we all know, part of any skate session involves hanging back and watching your friends and strangers try their tricks, getting sparked, and trying your own. We think the addition of the Specate Mode and replay player switching help to bring this element into Skater XL, and helps to further build an authentic skateboarding experience.
Thanks again for all the support and we hope you enjoy this new feature.

This brand new community creation is a modern skate contest arena, with all the features you’d expect to find your favorite pros shredding in the world’s biggest competitions. Created by Brookzee99, with porting by Easy Day for all platforms, Oshawa Arena will play host to the first ever Skater XL FakeSkate Open Live Contest event on February 5th. Tune in at Twitch.TV/StillMilky to watch some of the best fakeskaters in the world compete live for cash and prizes!
From Brookzee99: With the introduction of multiplayer to the game my goal was to bring a new element to the game in the form of competitive skating for the community. Inspired by real world skate competitions, this map is completely fictitious and was inspired by real world spots from the skateparks of Oshawa, Canada.
I have tried to capture the essence of competition skating with a course that would be at home in any real world event and lends itself to the games mechanics for both base game and modded players. I have put everything into making this map look and skate to the best of my abilities, using what I have learned from this community over the past year and taking advantage of the lighting guide that was compiled by the guys over at Easy Day.
Whilst I have been proud of every map I have made, this is the one I am especially proud of. I can't believe the support I have received from the community whilst making this map, so I thank everyone of you and the guys at Easy Day for always giving their invaluable advice. Here's hoping this is the beginning of a whole new chapter of competitive skating in Skater XL...

Just in time for the holidays, we are stoked to be dropping the optimized Day and Night versions of a fan favorite community map, Industrial Zone by Jean-Olive, along with the newly added ability to move some of the map-native objects using the DIY Map Editor Alpha.
Industrial Zone by Jean-Olive is a classic street map from the creator of ‘Streets’, among countless other incredible maps. Industrial Zone is Jean-Olive’s rendition of a gritty industrial area complete with shipping bays, loading docks and construction equipment creating a unique environment designed for piecing together your perfect lines. The team at Easy Day worked with Jean-Olive to visually enhance the map’s texturing and lighting, as well as optimize it’s technical performance on all platforms. Today’s release also includes both day and night versions of the map.
In addition to the visual and technical optimizations, we have added the ability to move certain objects in the map to allow for even more customization and creative options. (*Note: to use this feature you need to opt into the DIY Map Editor Alpha Branch. To do this: Right click ‘Skater XL’ and open Properties, Select the ‘Alpha' branch) Throughout Industrial Zone, you will now find objects like construction materials, heavy equipment, and other environmental elements that are native to the map, that can be moved to any location in the map to create new skate spots. To use this feature, press and hold ‘Y/Triangle’ to enter the DIY Map Editor and then select the objects.
Map creators will also have the ability to tag movable objects in their maps in the near future.
To close out 2021, we would also like to give a huge thank you to the Skater XL community for another incredible year. Skater XL wouldn’t be the game it is today without the support and contributions of the dedicated creators and players and we look forward to many more great years ahead. We hope everyone has a great holiday season and we’ll see you all in 2022 with more new content, updates and features. Happy holidays!
