Hello again everyone!
What a summer it’s been! July and August of 2025 were two of the most monumental and game-changing months in our studio's recent history, so we’ve decided once again to roll two months of incredible updates into a single, bumper Round-Up for you.
If you missed it, we launched our very first cooperative expansion for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition, the cooperative Alliances: Fate Beckons, which has completely transformed how you can experience the game. And as if that wasn't enough, we also pulled back the curtain on our ambitious future plans in a massive "State of the Game" update, charting the course for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition for the rest of the year and beyond.
With new ways to play and console ports on the horizon, it was great to finally be able to share all our exciting future plans - and the feedback and excitement you all showed was great to see too!
But enough preamble, let’s dive into the full bumper Round-Up!
On July 10th, we officially launched Talisman: Digital 5th Edition - Alliances: Fate Beckons on Steam! This expansion is a landmark release for us and for the world of Talisman, because it’s not only the first expansion created exclusively for the 5th Edition of the board game, but it also introduces a revolutionary new way to play: for the first time ever, Talisman is a fully cooperative experience.

View game pageIn Alliances: Fate Beckons, the traditional race to the Crown of Command is set aside. Instead, 2 to 6 players must unite as a team of heroes to overcome a series of five unique and challenging Trials. Each Trial presents its own formidable adversaries and specific objectives that you must complete together. As you conquer each challenge, you'll unlock new characters, powerful cards, and even more difficult objectives to complete, creating a true sense of progression and shared victory.
This new cooperative mode is built on a foundation of innovative mechanics designed to test your teamwork:
Villains on the Hunt: The board is now stalked by powerful Villains. These aren't just static enemies waiting on a card; they are active threats that move across the regions, hunting down your heroes and forcing you to strategize your every move.
The Doom Tracker: To keep the pressure on, each Trial features a "Doom Tracker." This ever-present clock advances when certain events occur, such as drawing a Villain card or a hero being defeated. If the tracker reaches its final stage, the stakes become dire, with heroes facing permanent defeat. It's a race against time that ensures every game is a tense and thrilling adventure.
Tools of Teamwork: To face these new threats, you're equipped with new ways to work together. Players on the same space can now freely trade Objects and Followers, combine their Strength or Craft to take on a single mighty foe, and utilize a shared fate pool and new cooperative spells designed to support your allies from across the board. Exclusive to the digital version, Alliances: Fate Beckons also integrates with the Deck Editor. This powerful tool allows you to customize the Adventure and Spell decks for each Trial, letting you fine-tune the difficulty to your liking. Whether you want to ease into the challenge or create a truly punishing gauntlet for your seasoned party.
To celebrate the launch, we kicked things off with a special week-long sale too, offering 40% off the base game of Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. It was the perfect opportunity for new adventurers to join the quest and for veterans to rally their friends for a new kind of challenge.

While launching and refining Alliances: Fate Beckons, we were also hard at work planning the next chapter for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. In August, we were thrilled to publish a comprehensive "State of the Game" update, which laid out our ambitious roadmap for the rest of 2025 and beyond. Coming to a Couch Near You: Console Ports!
This is the big one we know so many of you have been waiting for. We officially confirmed that we are actively working on bringing Talisman: Digital 5th Edition to consoles!
Development is underway for Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation ports of the game. This is a massive undertaking for our studio, signifying our belief in this game as the definitive, long-term digital home for the Talisman franchise. We've already made great progress, with a basic version of the game running on the Switch and work beginning on the Xbox and PlayStation ports. We're incredibly pleased with how the game is performing on console hardware so far and can't wait to share more details, including a firm release date!
Classics Reborn: The City and The Dungeon are Next!
Our journey to bring the beloved content from Talisman: Digital Classic Edition into the new 5th Edition engine continues! We're excited to announce that the next two remastered Classic expansions we'll be bringing over are two of the most iconic and fan-favorite expansions of all time: The City and The Dungeon.
These expansions add entire new regions to the board and fundamentally change the flow of the game. To bring these and future classics to you faster, we're also adopting a new approach. Going forward, remastered expansions will feature the original, iconic artwork from the 4th Edition releases. This not only allows us to accelerate our development pipeline but also helps maintain a visual style that many feel aligns more closely with the 5th Edition's aesthetic as we progress through the classic release order. Stay tuned for more information about these two remastered expansions in the near future.
More Characters and More Languages
The roster of characters in Talisman: Digital 5th Edition will also continue to grow! After we release The City Classic and The Dungeon Classic, we’re planning to bring another batch of remastered 4th Edition characters over into Digital 5th Edition.
We're also expanding the game's global reach! As part of our recent updates, we added beta support for two new languages: Russian and Simplified Chinese. We're testing a brand-new method for implementing translations, and the feedback from native speakers has been instrumental in refining this process. Our hope is that this new, more efficient system will allow us to support even more languages in the near future, bringing the world of Talisman to more players than ever before.
The launch of a game-changing expansion like Alliances: Fate Beckons is always a huge moment, and seeing the community dive in has been an incredible experience for our studio.
First up, to celebrate the launch, we hosted a special launch-day stream on our official Twitch channel, where members of the Nomad team were joined by the awesome folks from The Talisman Tavern, Glen One N and LordZodz, to take on the first Trial together. It was a fantastic showcase of the teamwork and strategic thinking the expansion demands!

View game pageSince then, we've been thrilled to see so many of you sharing your own adventures. Content creators and players alike have been streaming their attempts to conquer the Trials, and it's been a blast watching you work together.
We've also heard you loud and clear: this expansion is a true test of teamwork! The feedback from reviews and community hubs has consistently highlighted the expansion's "brutal but rewarding challenge".
At the same time, we’ve seen that this high level of difficulty has sparked vibrant discussions across our Discord server and the Steam forums. Players have been sharing intricate strategies, debating the best character combinations for each Trial, and offering tips to help fellow adventurers overcome the toughest hurdles. This kind of community-driven problem-solving is exactly what we hoped a cooperative mode would inspire. However, we also recognize that for some, the challenge felt "overtuned" and unforgiving, particularly when first starting out. The initial learning curve is steep, and the feeling of being overwhelmed by Villains is a common theme in early playthroughs.
This feedback is incredibly important, as it highlights a balancing challenge for us moving forward. Ensuring that the game is demanding for veterans while remaining accessible to newer players is a key priority, and your experiences are directly shaping how we approach future updates and content. We’re also directly feeding this kind of feedback to the people behind the physical Talisman board game, to help inform their future design decisions too!
Our team here at Nomad Games have been closely monitoring all your feedback since the launch of Alliances, and your insights have been invaluable. In August, our team dedicated itself to rolling out updates that directly address your comments and improve the Talisman: Digital 5th Edition experience for everyone. It's one thing to release a new expansion; it's another to continue refining a game based on the real-world experiences of our players. We're proud to say that's exactly what we did!
First, on August 6th, we released a major patch focused on gameplay improvements and critical bug fixes stemming from the expansion's launch. This update included one of the most-requested features: the ability to use characters from the remastered Frostmarch Classic and Reaper Classic expansions in Alliances games!
We also squashed some pesky bugs, including a crash related to the Swordsman's Parry ability and an issue where the Pickpocket villain wasn't correctly dropping stolen objects when defeated. For those of you seeking an even greater challenge, we also added a "No Respawn" house rule to the game, matching the community-favourite house rule from Talisman: Digital Classic Edition.
Later in the month, we went beyond bug fixes with a significant Quality of Life update on August 27th. This patch was all about enhancing the game's accessibility and overall playability, with changes driven entirely by community feedback.
Card Description Text Size Toggle: Many players, especially those on the Steam Deck or smaller monitors, reported that some in-game text was difficult to read. We added an option in the settings to increase the text size on card descriptions, making the game much more comfortable to play on any device.
Improved Board Visibility: We also heard feedback that the game board could sometimes look 'blurry' or lack clarity on certain screens. Our team went to work, applying a carefully balanced de-noising and de-hazing process to the board artwork. The result is a sharper, clearer, and more vibrant representation of the awesome looking physical game board!
'Traditional Dice' Option: In the 4th Edition of Talisman, the iconic Talisman logo on the die represented a '1'. In the 5th Edition, this was changed to represent a '6'. This small change caused a surprising amount of confusion for long-time players who had years of muscle memory telling them the logo meant a low roll. To honor that legacy and make the game more intuitive for our veteran fans, we've added a "Traditional Dice" option that swaps the custom die for a classic one with standard pips. It’s a small change that we’re hoping makes a big difference for people who’ve been playing Talisman for a long time.

“The new Alliances expansion is a lot of fun, but my group is finding it really challenging! Do you have any tips for conquering the first Trial?”
Alliances is definitely a tough challenge. Based on what we’ve seen from successful community playthroughs, the key is synergy and focus. Try to pick characters whose abilities complement each other. For example, having a strong fighter like the Assassin or Troll to deal with Villains, paired with a Craft-focused character like the Wizard to handle magical threats, can be a powerful combination.
The most important tip is to stick together! Moving as a group allows you to combine your strength in battles and freely trade items to make sure the right hero has the right tool for the job. Also, try to manage the Doom Tracker carefully—if you don't need to draw an Adventure Card, sometimes it's better to use a space's special ability instead to avoid spawning more Villains!

“I'm a long-time Talisman player from the Classic digital version. The new dice in 5th Edition with the logo for a '6' always throws me off. Is there any plan to change this?”
Hi Mike, we heard this feedback from you and many other veterans of Talisman: Digital Classic Edition!
We completely understand how years of seeing that logo as a '1' can be hard to unlearn. That's why, as part of our Quality of Life update on August 27th, we added a "Traditional Dice" option to the settings menu. If you toggle this on, the game will use a standard die with pips instead of the Talisman logo. You can now play with whichever style you prefer! We hope this makes your transition to 5th Edition a much smoother experience.

“Now that the first 5th Edition exclusive expansion is out, what's next? Are you going back to remastering more of the classic 4th Edition expansions?”
While we were excited to create something brand new with Alliances, our commitment to bringing the full classic experience to Digital 5th Edition is stronger than ever. We've already announced our next two remastered expansions: the fan-favorites The City and The Dungeon. We’ll also be using the original 4th Edition art for these to help us bring them to you more quickly. So yes, you can definitely look forward to more classic content making its way to the game very soon!
