The Exiled Prince
The world is changing. Christianity is on the rise, and the Viking realm is torn apart by wars and petty feuds. The old ways are fading, and what it means to be a Viking is no longer certain.
Amid this turmoil, the young Prince Harald is driven out of Norway with just a handful of loyal men and a fierce will to return one day and claim what is rightfully his. A perilous journey lies ahead, but opportunity awaits in the Byzantine court and the famed Varangian Guard. Yet the Empress Zoe is a jealous woman, and she despises any man she cannot control.

Tempered by years of brutal warfare, Harald returns to Scandinavia with a hoard of wealth and plots to take Norway’s throne. Powerful men bar his way: the young and pious king, Magnus Olafsson, and the calculated earl, Svein Estridsson.
Svein is no ordinary man, and he may just have the will to match Harald’s own. Norway’s disloyal nobles, led by the stalwart Einar Paunch-Shaker, are another obstacle – but if their treachery must be rooted out, so be it.

A comet’s tail streaks the sky as the Saxon earl Tostig Godwinson arrives with a daring proposal: England’s throne awaits, if King Harald will sail across the sea to claim it.
For the aging Harald, it is now or never. Unfulfilled ambition casts its shadow over him, but he has the hunger to defy his fate. As Harald launches the greatest fleet Norway has ever known, he dreams of immortalizing his name on England’s shores.
But the Saxons are far from a spent power – and their newly crowned king, Harold Godwinson, is notoriously formidable.

In this DLC, you will enter a character-driven trilogy that spans the life of the legendary Viking warrior Harald Hardrada. Fight alongside Harald and his sworn brothers, Ulf Ospaksson and Halldor Snorrason, and share in their adventures – from terrorizing the Mediterranean in their dreaded longships and harrying the icy fjords of Scandinavia, to reminding the Saxons that Vikings are still a force to be feared.
Plunder your enemies and discover hidden Legendary Treasures across the Viking world, from the Sun Stone of Leif Ericsson to the Chain Mail of Ivar the Boneless. These treasures can be found in each scenario across the three campaigns, granting powerful bonuses to your heroes, army, or economy. Be wary – these treasures are guarded by mighty warriors and ferocious beasts.

Harald’s travels were as diverse as his many adventures, serving different masters or forging alliances if it meant furthering his ambition. This means you’ll have the chance to play as all three exciting new civilizations, including the Varangians, Danes, and Saxons, and of course, the reworked Vikings. As Harald’s saga is divided into three campaigns, you can play them in any order you like.

Dozens of new Viking-themed assets bring the world to life: from driftwood and seaweed in the cold Nordic sea, to heather, gorse, and snowy rocks decorating the wild north, and new animals such as seal, walrus, and elk – and much, much more!
These new campaigns not only draw on what fans have come to love from Age of Empires II, but elevate the storytelling experience and game play immersion further than ever before. In addition to this, we’ve also updated a few legacy scenarios to include the new civilizations: Hastings, Vinlandsaga, and York have never been more immersive!

Back in December 2025, we told you to expect two expansions for Age of Empires IV in 2026 – Yue Fei’s Legacy is out now, and we shared that the second would contain two new civilizations. While you were all excited to hear that one would be the Vikings, we’ve maintained a mystery around the second. We were thrilled that our reveal got to take the stage at the XBOX Showcase. Raiders of the North is coming this Fall and will also add the Scots to the game.
The two new civs aren’t all that you can expect though. We’ll also be expanding fan favorite mode The Crucible with four new missions, new boons, a new challenge mode, and two-player co-op! You’ll also get two new stunning biomes in which to battle.
In Raiders of the North, the Vikings emerge not just as raiders of the past, but as a dynamic civilization which bridges the gap between the sagas of old and the rise of medieval Scandinavia.
The Scots will prove admirable adversaries not just to the Vikings, but across the Age IV civ roster. The Scots are a resilient people who spent centuries forging alliances and defending their rugged lands.
Raiders of the North isn’t our only foray into Scandinavian stories this fall, as the next expansion for Age II: DE is The Viking Sagas.
The Viking Sagas brings three new civilizations – the Danes, the Saxons and the Varangians. Use the Danes’ unique Jomsviking unit to raid and hurl flaming torches. Wield the Saxons’ Hearth Troop, a heavy infantryman which opens fights with a ranged javelin before closing in. Or send out the Varangians’ Jarl to hurl axes and tear through enemy infantry.
Following the life of Harald Hardrada in 3 new campaigns: from his cunning exploits across the Mediterranean, his brutal raids across the Danish coast, to his daring invasion of England in 1066. You’ll earn renown through the skalds’ tales and fight your way from Scandinavia to the Kyivan Rus and the Byzantine Empire, before staking everything on England’s shores.
In this new story, you’ll encounter powerful antagonists, including the duplicitous Empress Zoe, the dangerous King Svein Estridsson and the battle-tested King Harold Godwinson.

Last week we shared that The Baltic Powers, a new expansion for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, is coming on September 10, 2026.
The Baltic Powers continues our story of Northern culture by introducing two new civilizations – the Danes and the Poles. The Danes bring economic intelligence and naval control allowing a strong economy and military presence from the outset. The Poles possess excellent resources, which can build a massive agricultural empire to feed the hungry horses of war.
This expansion brings two new civilizations, two new challenge scenarios, two new game modes (Regicide and Independence), over 25 new maps, 20 new thematic maps, three new historical maps, and more than 50 new hero customizations.
We also revealed last week that we’ll be retiring the Free Trial and offering a new package for the base game.
From August 13th, new purchasers of Age of Empires III: DE will receive not only the base game, but also the United States Civilization, the Mexico Civilization, plus the Lizzie, Kunoichi and Vol1 Hero Cosmetic Packs. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is an invitation to lead a broad range of civilizations, from marauding Huns to fiery Celts, as they carve their paths through a thousand years of history. Players grow their settlements from Dark Age hamlets to imposing citadels by balancing resource gathering with military spending to defend what is already theirs and to conquer what is not. 
Each single-player campaign is packed with historical flavour, featuring famous leaders from Kings to Khans, and incorporating the technologies and weaponry of each era. The fast-paced Skirmish mode pits players against up to eight opponents, either offline versus the AI, or online against other Mac gamers. Online multiplayer also offers cooperative campaigns featuring historical scenarios and objectives to tackle together as allies.
As the latest iteration of this storied game, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition arrives on macOS as an Apple silicon native version, with the benefit of more than two decades of refinements.
