Hey all, we're here with a followup patch to 1.3 to fix a few issues.
Another tweak has been made to the credits.
The animated Serenity Forge logo has been replaced with a static one, as it was causing issues for SteamDeck users.
An issue where the wrong replay was submitted to the leaderboard has been fixed. This unfortunately won't be retroactive if you submitted replays pre-patch.
The end display at the end of replays has been restored.

Hey all, it's been a while! We've taken the time to polish up a large collection of fixes throughout the game and build some long-awaited features.
Those interested in creativity and community may find and enjoy a new door hidden in the kingdoms.
You can now see ghosts of players with a similar best time after first completion or watching a replay, on almost all levels. This can be turned off in gameplay options.
A hub select menu is now available after completing the game. This can be accessed with the leaderboard button while standing around in a hub.
Additional patch notes:
Background quality has been added in video options.
Desktop icon has been updated.
Audio obeys settings when launching the game.
A small tweak has been made to the credits.
Simulation quality setting saves properly.
Language setting saves properly.
A bug where the camera would suddenly move to a wrong location has been fixed.
A softlock in the credits has been fixed.
A visual bug with the final Dream has been fixed.
The popup for Assist Mode has been made less intrusive.
A significant amount of visual and audio polish has been added to the Battle for the Last Kingdom.
Several sources of replay desyncs have been fixed for the Battle for the Last Kingdom. This affects physics but existing replays are unaffected.
If a replay fails to upload, the game will upload a replay-less score to the leaderboard.
An exploit allowing for fast, invalid times to be submitted for the Fallen Kingdom has been fixed.
An exploit where a glideless level could be played with access to glide has been fixed.
Spirit Birds are more visible.
A visual effect has been added when collecting a Spirit Bird and when collecting all Spirit Birds in a level.
A missing hole in the Lake Kingdom hub has been fixed.
Cutscenes should now be deterministic.
Replay times should be consistent when restarting a level.
A one-frame input delay has been removed. This affects physics but existing replays are preserved.
A bug where input time could be one frame off has been fixed.
A bug where levels started in-progress with Assist Mode could be submitted to the leaderboard has been fixed. This should account for most invalid leaderboard submissions.
All runs now record their replays locally, for logging purposes.
A very niche softlock has been fixed during the Finale.
Z-fighting has been fixed in the Forest Dream.
Checkpoint priorities have been added to two Forest levels that were missing them.
A new "Disable Progress" Assist Mode option has been added. This disables new checkpoints from being set and disables the level completion door.

Return to hub on Finale levels bring you to the correct door.
Vertical wrapping now works on most menus.
The input bound to Interact now works as the Confirm button in all cases.
The cloak now refills fully and properly in all cases, including landing on a surface for less than a frame. This affects physics but existing replays are preserved.
Leeway calculation has been tweaked to be more consistent and intuitive. This affects physics but existing replays are preserved.
A bug where different simulated effects would stretch vertices towards each other has been fixed.
The invulnerability assist mode option now functions in the Battle for the Last Kingdom.
A bug that would prevent quick restart from working has been fixed.
A few optimizations to scene loading have been made.
A few player animations now rotate to stand on sloped surfaces.
Music now fades out correctly.
The Saves menu has been polished up a bit, and now display the saved level if available.
A bug where the Controls menu would stop functioning after a scene change has been fixed.
Controls and settings now save as plaintext, so that they are easier to edit.
Collectible totems now have an audio cue on collect.
Scenes now preload as soon as they are confirmed, saving a few seconds of load time. This can be disabled in gameplay settings.
The Outer Forest has been added as a replayable level with a leaderboard.
Cloak visuals have been tweaked in game as well as in cutscenes.
The credits and Fallen Kingdom cutscene are now skippable after the first play in the save.
Replays always return to hub when finished, including levels that end in a cutscene.
The 1.2.3 version will continue to be available to play, although it will no longer upload scores globally.
Thanks to everyone who have supported us for the past few years and a special shoutout to members of the Speedrunning Discord! Your amazing feedback during the Beta, the wonderful events held at ESA and more, and the catalogue of community tools have been truly inspiring.

Hey everyone, we've just released the second major patch to The King's Bird, and it includes a free content update! Each of the three Kingdoms have a new set of levels for you to enjoy. The two major features added in this patch are Replays and Localization.
Here's the full patch notes.
13 brand new levels have been added to the game.
Replays are now available in the leaderboards of all levels. These are retroactive, so every top run since the game's release is now available for you to watch!
Language options are now available. Available languages are: English, Spanish, French, Russian, German, Chinese (Simplified).
Many performance improvements have been made, including improving rendering and removing all known memory leaks.
Leaderboards are now much quicker to load.
Restarting a level is much quicker and dying before the first checkpoint will fully restart a level.
New gameplay options have been added to disable checkpoints (restart a level fully after each death) and to display a HUD showing your time and Spirit Birds.
A message reminding the player that Assist Mode exists pops up if they are stuck for a long time.
A door has been added to Eagle's Shrine to skip the Fallen Kingdom if it has been completed but the Battle for the Last Kingdom hasn't been reached.
Menu input now attempts to inherit navigation from game input the best it can.
New options have been added to keybinding to allow you to invert an input, make an input a toggle, and bind multiple inputs to one action.
You can now restart after beating a level to play it again.
Spirit Birds have been tweaked to be more visible on bright backgrounds.
A frame skipping option has been added to video options. Changing the number may or may not improve performance, depending on whether your machine is bottlenecked by CPU or rendering.
Several bugfixes have been made, including a cutscene not playing, input not being locked for a particular cutscene, a particular momentum bug, and much more.
Special thanks to our community on the Discord for Beta feedback!

You’re in for an “I can’t think of an intro” intro, viewers, because the last fortnight has kept me busy with the second most important thing I’ve ever done in my life. I don’t know about you, but while the world seems to be on a downward slide, things have been looking pretty great for me lately. When the bombs fall I shall surely rule the Wasteland, and have my minions rebuild, that we may finally get through our game backlogs.
The most important thing, of course, was to play another pile of new Steam releases, and tell you which ones are the best. It is time for more Unknown Pleasures
Transforming lives this week: birdless flights, branching fan narratives, and three wrongs making a right. (more…)

Hey all, we've just released the first major patch to The King's Bird. The two big features you're looking for are fully rebindable keys and multiple saves (up to 5), and we also have a slew of quality of life changes and bugfixes. Here's the full changelist.
Controls are now fully rebindable, found in Options -> Controls.
Multiple saves are now supported, found in Options -> Saves, this also replaces the "Restart Game" option.
A "Quick Reset" option is now available as an optional keybinding. This does the same thing as restarting from latest checkpoint.
Options configurations now persist between sessions.
You are now allowed to return to hubs during story levels.
Tutorial progress is now saved if you don't reach the Forest Kingdom.
A door has been added to Eagle's Shrine after reaching the Battle for the Last Kingdom that takes you directly to it.
The menu has overall been made slightly more responsive.
Restarting a level now defaults to "Yes"
You can no longer keep your gliding in levels that are supposed to remove it.
Restarting from latest checkpoint is now disabled until you die at least once after reaching a new checkpoint.
Various minor visual and setdressing bugs fixed.
This is it for major changes for a few weeks, because we'll be busy with another major King's Bird milestone. We're still working on the other big two feature requests of replays and localization, but those are going to take a bit longer.

Hey everyone!
We've just released the first patch to The King's Bird. We're still busy working on the big ticket features that everyone's hungry for (replays, rebindable controls, and more) but there were several bugs and small features that we felt like we could get out quick without making you guys wait for the big features to be done. Here's the changelist:
Fallen Kingdom cutscene (and other cutscenes) no longer stutters
Ledge cancels are now possible on gamepads
Flying animation will now properly override the dash animation
Windowed mode is now resizable
Heron cutscene no longer plays multiple times
D-Pad on controller is now supported
Fixed a few visuals breaking in bossfight
Button prompt in bossfight hints more towards what you're supposed to do

Checkpoint added to remove the softlock right before the bossfight
Ending of Outskirts changed slightly
Various minor setdressing fixes
Invisible death zones in some areas replaced by walls
Fallen Kingdom and final dream sequence cutscenes extended slightly and audio changed

On an average day, about a dozen new games are released on Steam. And while we think that's a good thing, it can be understandably hard to keep up with. Potentially exciting gems are sure to be lost in the deluge of new things to play unless you sort through every single game that is released on Steam. So that’s exactly what we’ve done.
An action-RPG with the focus on stamina, dodging, and respawning to try again familiar from Dark Souls, but a combat system based on shifting stances a little like Absolver, and visuals that are unique. It's sketchy, like colored chalk scratched out from under charcoal, and nothing seems to stand still for very long. Which is apt, because that's exactly how you have to play to survive the punishing combat. Fortunately there are difficulty options.
7 Billion Humans is a new game from the creators of World of Goo, Little Inferno, and Human Resource Machine. It seems to be building on the later of those three in particular, scaling Human Resource Machine up—way up. It's the future and machines have made humans redundant, so the only thing left is to use all of humanity to power machines. I think? You've got an office building full of tiny Jhonen Vasquez-looking people to automate, programming them as if they're a computer program made of meat. It's a bit odd, yes.
It's been a good couple of years for fans of stylish indie platformers. The King's Bird is another, with a striking color palette and an unusual movement mechanic. It's all about soaring, gathering speed and then leaping into flight, changing direction in mid-air while your white scarf flicks around you. There's a wordless story being told, but mostly it's about manipulating your momentum for graceful aerial maneuvers.
"Like Football Manager but with Roman gladiators" would be the reductive comparison to make about Age of Gladiators II: Rome. You put together a team of warriors, then send them off to the arena to fight other gladiators as well as tigers and bears in turn-based battles. Between bouts there's training, management, and opportunities to raid caravans for extra cash and assassinate those you're in debt to.
An interactive movie set between Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, Last Frontier is part big-decision Telltale series and part David Cage game (the developers have cited Heavy Rain as an inspiration), only with more apes. You play as both apes and humans on both sides of a struggle that could end in fragile peace or open war.

I'm a sucker for pretty platformers. Give me a piano-led soundtrack and a heavy-handed shot of "behold my art," and I'm there—even though I'm not actually very good at platformers in the first place. Thus my interest in The King's Bird, "an artistic, momentum-based game that seamlessly combines precision-platforming with physics-based gliding."
The game is set in five unique, beautifully-rendered worlds inspired by Mayan, Southeast Asian, and Roman cultures. What it's actually about isn't clear: "Escape into a world kept secret by a tyrant, and discover the truth about your freedom" is all the Steam page has to say about it, and the Serenity Forge website isn't any more informative.
But that's okay. Story is nice but spectacle is the real attraction here, and The King's Bird looks to have plenty of that. Which isn't to downplay the value of an engaging and well-told tale—Serenity Forge describes it as a "text-less narrative told through visuals in motion"—but it's the atmosphere that's clearly the priority.
The King's Bird comes out on August 23, and will be priced at $20.
