We’re thrilled to announce that our “2.0” patches for Myst: Masterpiece Edition, Riven: The Sequel to Myst (1997), and Myst III: Exile are now out on Steam!
The 2.0 patches for all three games contain major quality-of-life improvements, including (but not limited to): more robust controller support, better save game support, and better platform support for both Windows and Mac. This also includes an official Steam Deck verified status for all three titles on Steam.

64-bit requirement note: Please note that this update removes 32-bit support for all three titles. This change really only applies to folks who have been playing these games on extremely old operating systems. If you are one of those users and wish to keep access to those builds, you can find them in the “last_32bit_release” beta branch on Steam or GOG for each game, which should be available without needing to enter a beta code.

Although these changes aren’t necessarily new content updates to the games, Cyan remains committed to continuing to support our legacy games on modern platforms when we’re able to. Riven: The Sequel to Myst was originally released 28 years ago, Myst: Masterpiece Edition was released around 25 years ago (if you ignore the very original release of Myst released 32 years ago), and Myst III: Exile was released 24 years ago.

This Myst has been fully redesigned and created from the ground up using the Unreal Engine, the same engine we used on Obduction. Many of the puzzles have been reimagined and engineered to include optional puzzle randomization and also keep accessibility in mind.

We have been working to ready all of the games in the Myst series for the 25th Anniversary of Myst, which happens later this month. Most of the games in the series required compatibility updates, but Myst and Riven needed more than that to run reliably on modern day computers. We partnered up with the ScummVM team and have worked closely with them to bring you this updated version of Riven. Since the game is powered by ScummVM, the user interface is a bit different than the original release, but has most all of the same functionality.

Riven: The Sequel to Myst is now available in 8 languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, and Polish. Select the language option of your choice from the menu that appears when you launch the game.
Localization Fixes:
Fix for missing page in Gehn's journal in the localized versions
Fix for crash when using the D'ni numbering system game in Jungle island in the localized versions
Fix for missing credits after the ending video in the Polish version
Fix for where Polish is showing a white screen before the credits play
Fix for where Spanish is hitting a crash on the first bad ending

Known Issues:
Saves from the previous Steam version will not carry over to this release, as our previous release was based on the original CD release, and not the later, higher quality DVD release that we are basing this version on. As the GoG release uses the same assets, saves from GoG will carry over to this Steam release.
As with Myst, the graphics have not been remastered, so there will be a variance in the quality of the appearance of the graphics depending on the size of the display being used. The game starts out in full-screen and can be put into a scalable window by using the Alt+Enter command. Being able to adjust the scaling of the window will help to improve the clarity of the graphics.
