It’s the first day of Golden Week in Japan, and while that may not mean much to those in English-speaking territories, it’s one of the nation’s biggest holidays. As Valve never miss an excuse for a sale, that means that there’s some great deals on games from Japanese developers and publishers. If visual novels, fighting games or JRPGs are your thing, there’s some good stuff at slashed prices today. Here’s the official sale highlights page, you can see all the current week-long deals here, and a handful of personal picks below.

- Fixed the way SE and voice volume are handled. This should address:
Environment sounds being louder than expected.
Difficulty hearing enemy death cries.
Lowering of volume sliders not having any noticeable effect.
Footfalls being too quiet.
As well as other related issues.
The above-noted fix has affected the defaults for all volume sliders, setting it to 7 across the board. If you find that this makes any part of the game too loud next time you play, you may adjust it to your preference via the Options menu.
- Fixed an issue where certain graphics resolutions were not populating the list of available resolutions on GPD WIN2 and similar machines.
- Adjusted the launcher window layout to better facilitate showing all buttons and character portaits even on 1280x720 displays.
- Added a feature to the in-game options that allows players to disable the ability to perform simultaneous Flash Guard and Flash Move ("Simulflash").
Hey everyone! Here with another update. - Added an option to the launcher to automatically generate mipmaps for textures applied to 3D models. - Added a keyboard action for "walk." Pressing and holding this key will allow the player characters to walk instead of run during gamepl

Nihon Falcom’s long-running Ys series are pure gaming comfort food. Simple but solid fantasy adventure stories, fast, arcadey action, complex boss fights and great soundtracks. Yet another finds its way to PC today. Ys: Memories of Celceta was originally a PS Vita game (and one I’ve owned for many years), but regular localisation/porting outfit XSeed have done a lot of work polished it up for this re-release. Memories of Celceta is out now, and I reckon that it’s a good first pick if you’ve not played an Ys game before.

NIS America might have stumbled a bit with the PC launch of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, but previous publisher XSeed have stepped up to bat again for Nihon Falcom’s long-running series of consistently entertaining action RPGs. Ys: Memories of Celceta was originally released for the PlayStation Vita, but their new version allows you to play it at full HD resolutions, at framerates as high as your PC will allow and it’s due out in less than a month. Read a bit more about it and watch a generous slice of live-streamed developer footage within.

Barring a few buggy blunders—like the repeatedly delayed and ultimately terrible port of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana—the Ys PC ports have generally been pretty good, and Celceta is at least checking the right boxes. According to the Steam page, its port sports "a wide range of HD resolutions, fixed framerates up to 120 fps with the option to unlock the framerate altogether, fully customizable control bindings, fully integrated mouse support, and more." If you're the competitive type, you'll also find Steam leaderboards for Celceta's time attack and boss rush modes.
You can see some of that in action in this new gameplay footage:
