Freedom Games/Resuming Updates
As you may have heard, we've recently partnered up with Freedom Games. Freedom Games is one of the best indie publishers on Steam, and this partnership will not only breathe new life into Medieval Kingdom Wars, but also give us resources to continue updating and improving MKW. We can't wait to share all the upcoming updates with you, starting with today's 48th update.
Update 48
Today's substantial milestone update brings a lot of gameplay improvements! We've looked into quality of life improvements, a lot of balancing and bug fixes, as well as improving AI, pathfinding, and a lot of other things.
Here's a closer look at what Update 48 has in store:

Changes to the main menu scenes; now for all the expansions, the main scene is shown.
Reworked main menu – no longer shows expansion banners that covered most of the menu.
Major improvements to campaign AI across the board.
World map AI now spawns fewer armies, but the ones spawned are stronger.
World Map AI will no longer use triple and quadruple armies.
World Map AI now spawns double armies closer to each other.
World Map AI – dual armies now always attack together.
Invite range for multiple armies both for players and AI is now greatly increased.
Fixed all the issues where players or AI would not be able to invite armies into battle.
Major redesign of the RTS build-up and battle UI – it now shows all the units, buildings, and techs that players could use, but they are greyed out until players research them.
Fixed a lot of issues where armies or towns would behave oddly on the world map, like towns and armies not seeing each other or not interacting correctly.
All cinematic text windows now have a proper background, which makes reading cinematic text a lot easier.
Space key now longer pauses campaign map (was confusing players in the video).
Fixed a major issue with some ranged units and siege auto-targeting citizens during town sieges.
Resolved various pathfinding and unit behavioral issues during sieges.
Greatly improved appearances of FX on levels and world map.
When loading a new instance of world map or levels, the FX will appear right away, before it would take a couple of minutes.
Marshall/Military window that shows which player asset is being attacked now shows the name of the town instead of the region.
Palisade gatehouse in RTS is now clearly marked with flags, so it's much easier to see.
Redesigned auto-resolve features on the world map.
Auto-resolve no longer removes zero-strength units.
Weak units like peasants, chickens, and siege will almost always survive now if player army wins auto-resolve.
Balancing improvement to world map army/strength – support and some siege units no longer add any strength.
Fixed major issues with military units not leveling up in auto-resolve.
Starting and newly created armies now move away from their spawn point, so they are easier to find and select.
Removing looted skull symbol on looted towns, once they are no longer looted.

We're thrilled to share another significant update with you today, along with some exciting news:
Anticipating Big Changes
As you may have heard, we've recently introduced our latest game, Renaissance Kingdom Wars. Completely redesigned from the ground up, it stands as our most extensive and ambitious title to date. Set in the 16th-17th centuries, the game delves into early gunpowder warfare and scalable gameplay. Assume the role of a landless mercenary captain, plotting your way to the crown.
There`s a lot of very exciting tech and improvements going into Renaissance Kingdom Wars and over the next few months, we'll be integrating some of these enhancements into Medieval Kingdom Wars. This means you can anticipate significant monthly or even bi-weekly updates, enhancing KW4 with gameplay refinements, UI enhancements, improved performance, and visual upgrades.
The latest update introduces the initial steps toward incorporating this new technology into Medieval Kingdom Wars.

Update 47
Today's substantial milestone update brings forth new engine updates and major scripting changes. From revamped combat and pathfinding to improved in-game lighting and reduced loading times, there's a lot to explore.
Here's a closer look at what Update 47 has in store:

Major update of the in-game light scheme
Fixed major issue with it being hard to see units during rain, nighttime or winter
Reworked cavalry forces - they are a lot more effective now
Cavalry Trample ability is a lot more useful now with cavalry unit taking up to 30% less damage
Major redesign of melee combat
Instead of units just have a couple of melee attack animations they now have several attack animations
Fixed a major design flow in melee combat where units would drop shields and other weapons on the ground
Various other improvement to melee combat
Various cavalry troops now use different animations for attack - like mounted knight with lance, or chevalier with sword
Fixed last issues with stability when changing between battle and world map levels
Improved the colours of all nations and units in battalions - they are more radiant and easier to differentiate now
Major improvement to tasking battalions
Greatly reduced input lag when tasking a lot of battalions in busy combat
Greatly reduced world map loading speed - in many cases it would take 5-6 seconds instead of 10-12 as before
Fixed major issue with world map where some towns would take additional minute to show up on the world map
Various optimization to loading levels
Fixed issues with world map gameplay during first minute of play having occasional issues interacting with towns
Final rework of the world map camera zoom - it`s not quick and smooth
Final improvement to the in-game camera zoom and controls
Improved how units are rendered on some enthronements - much easier to tell units apart
Balancing changes to various siege weapons
Full re-balance of mounted units in combat
Improvements to how world map AI trains melee and cavalry units
Some minor improvement to combat AIs use of cavalry units

We have a solid update 47 for you today, in which update we focused on various visual improvements as well as a usual set of fixes and polish.
In addition we have resolved a major issue that we unfortunately introduced into the game in our last 45th update.
With that said - let`s take a closer look at what update 46 has in store:

Fixed a rare crash when entering large towns from the world map
Improvements to the visual rendering with updates to light processing
Reworked nighttime and rain time in-game light
It`s a lot easier to see units during darker light now
Major improvement to rainy and winter day/nighttime light and effects
Major visual improvements to large towns
Large towns buildings now light up windows during the night with radiant light
Town buildings now have fireplace smoke and other props and visual effects
Hamlet village houses also update some new visual effects
Some polish and updates to building plots
Building plots now show shorter name Plot instead of Building Plot string
Fixed major visual problem with major towns where scrolling around made building textures flicker
Improved texture rendering on various objects in large town
Reworked camera rotation and movement flow for RTS camera – it`s a lot smoother and cinematic now

We are back with another solid update - getting MKW in the best shape ever in time for the Holiday season ahead. With this big update we focused on areas that most of our players ask us to improve things - camera controls AI, balancing and everyone favorite unit - Royal Guard. We also have improved things with rare crashes during loading screen.
Also we have some exciting news that we are looking forward to sharing with you in about two weeks - new Kingdom Wars title is coming your way later this year! Can`t wait to announce the project and share all the details with you - it`s the most ambitious and refined Kingdom War game we ever worked on.
With that said - lets take a closer look at what today`s update 45 has in store:

Reworked world map scrolling, it`s now a lot smoother
Improvements to World map camera scrolling
Royal guard now has a Flag
Fixes to some of the Royal Guard nations shields not showing
Rebalanced Royal Guard stats
Some hamlets that were positioned on a big mountain have been reworked to be on a hill instead
Fixed issue with some hamlets not being playable due to camera problems with mountains
World map AI improvements when sending multiple armies
Multiple AI armies will now attack together in most situations

We have a really great update in store today. Have been spending a lot of time playing the game lately and also going through the forums to help identify the areas that needed improvement as well as to find and fix the last of remaining bugs - and this update goes a long way towards making MKW be funner to play.
With this update we`ve covered a lot of key areas - from world map gameplay to sieges, tutorial improvements, GUI and much more.
Lets take a look at what today`s update 44 has in store, please note that I only list the larger changes:

Reworked mechanics of world map AI town capture
When AI captures a town it sets a realistically small garrison and not a full stack as before
Improvements to world map town GUI
When selecting towns on the world map camera will no longer auto-center
Tax rate on towns GUI now increased and decreased in increments of 10 – saving a lot of clicks
A lot of polish to tutorial level 2
Reworked timing and sped of tutorial level 4
Rebalanced hit point of siege units
Collecting taxes upsets population a lot less now, up to 40% less
Increased movement speed for Battering Rams – this helps making sieges play out faster
Significantly more wood can be gathered by peasants from each tree
Fixed situation where town defenders would run out of wood within minutes of a siege

We are happy to bring you a major update 43. Today`s update includes some major improvements in all of the key areas of the game - from stability to improving the fundamentals of gameplay and performance, and fixing and improving world map interaction.
We are especially happy with the improved stability and finally fixing last of remaining rare crashing issues due to visual memory overrun. In addition you will find major improvements to world map interactions between cities and armies - fixing a number of rare issues - like armies not getting invited into battles, or clicking on armies or towns to attack not working correctly.
Also please keep in mind that we are migrating to a new server hosting provider this week, and expect online features of the game to be offline until September 12th or so.
Now lets take a closer look at what today`s update 42 has in store:

Foundation work for the upcoming MKW Prologue stand alone edition.
Major improvements to stability of the game in all situations
Fixed vast majority of remaining instances where game might crash during intense combat
Fixed last instance of crashing when switching between levels and world map
Visual memory used by the game reduced by 30%
Fixed rare visual glitches showing sometimes on older video cards
Main menu loading time decreased by nearly 50%
Initial loading time into the game decreased by 30%
Major improvements to world map gameplay and army and towns interactions
Fixed a bug where sometimes allied armies were not detected or invited into a battle
Fixed common issues with player being unable to invite second army into the battle
Fixed various issues with using army to interact with nearby towns - recruitment e.t.c
Fixed common issue where sometimes clicking with army to attack another army or town would not do anything
As a minor annoyance - there`s now a half a second delay when loading 'Create new campaign' menu

We are back with another major update - getting MKW in the best shape ever for the summer. With this big update we focused on areas that most of our players ask us to improve things - pathfinding, balancing & difficulty. We also have improved things with rare crashes during loading screen.
You`ll notice your units are a lot more responsive in battle now, tasking units and calculating paths is a lot faster now, and units perform much better when being ordered a new target or to withdraw from an active melee battle.
With regards to balancing - a lot of world map economy, costs and rewards have been re-balanced. From the new campaign starting resources, to building resources production happiness modifies, as well as upkeep costs for units, and a lot more.
With that said - lets take a closer look at what today`s update 42 has in store:

Various pathfinding and unit tasking improvements
Tasking large number of battalions now takes at most just over 1 seconds – instead of several seconds
Large groups of units tasked are a lot more responsive
Fixed some issues with units getting stuck while tasking
Fixed some of the very rare crash issues when switching between combat and world map
Improved tasking units away from combat – they stop fighting and pull back faster
Re-balanced the income generation of buildings on the world map
Most resources producing buildings generate a lot more silver while on the world map
Rebalanced buildings effect on town happiness calculations
Rebalance of cost and effect of various world map actions and conditions
Creating new armies is now a lot more expensive
New campaigns start with significantly more starting silver
Rebalanced late game units - they are a lot more affordable, and have smaller upkeep
Late game units now have much lower upkeep
Fixed few remaining bugs in the tutorial campaign
Made final chapter of the tutorial campaign a bit more challenging
Add some fail safes for chapter 4 and 5 – if player gets stuck on a task

We have happy to bring you the 41st update as well to launch a new DLC for Medieval Kingdom Wars - called Zombie Mode.

Zombie Mode completely transforms the combat gameplay of Medieval Kingdom Wars - both for online and multiplayer Skirmish and all the Campaign battle modes.
As a mysterious plague infects medieval Europe – the dead no longer stay dead. Every soldier who dies in battles by any reason will shortly rise as a gruesome Zombie - and will try to eat everyone around – friend or foe.
The only solutions are looting the fallen soldiers or burning their corpses with fire arrows. This expansion requires player to start new campaign to activate the Zombie Mode feature, or a new Skirmish game and comes complete with new screens, high-res Zombie units, sound effects and main menu changes.
And with this out of the way - lets take a look at what our 41st update has in store:

Zombie Mode DLC officially out with Skirmish now also supported
Player colour is now green in-game, makes it easier to see the player, and units stand out a lot better against the terrain
Fixed various issues with tutorial and Kings Campaign - greatly streamlining both the tutorial and the DLC
Vassal and allied lords are not a low more productive in the campaign mode - reacting much faster to player requests
Take advantage of Rally Point in the early campaign - your King will send armies to your requests to defend or attack
AI hamlets will now properly level up, and increase in level, which will be saved on campaign reload
Reworked edge scrolling increasing the area of scroll detection

We have another update today as we are pushing to get MKW in great shape for the summer. This udpate fixes things across the board - from restoring online features on a new server, to fixing stability and GUI issues like scrolling.
In addition we found out that Steam was installing Greater Worlds for some of the new players, we have fixed it, but just in case you already had started Kings Campaign, you can now properly install Greater Worlds DLC and the saved files will all be there.
We are expecting a major update 41 to go live later this month.
And now lets take a look at what today`s update 40 has in store:

Fixed major stability issue causing the game to crash for a few on startup
Fixed a couple of rare crash issues related to Fonts
Completed Server Migration to the new server
All online servers are now available again
Fixed issue with Greater Worlds appearing for some players by default (even these who didn`t purchase it)

We have another solid update today that fixes various GUI issues, as well as brings several improvements, and a couple of new features. We have also looked into improving world map AI, and improving MKWs translation.
Also some exciting news - the big milestone - our 40th update, that has been in the making for a couple of months now is nearly complete - and we expect to launch it later next month. It will include some major new developments (more on this soon).
Meanwhile lets take a closer look at what today`s update 39 has in store:

Added new Center View button to armies and towns under attack
Center View button allows to center view on a selected army or town before battle
Reworked world map town GUI – it will no longer always show building menu, it will be hidden instead.
Fixed a few issues that would result in certain parts of gui from towns being stuck in one place
Fixed some issues with campaign quest rewards not being given to player
Rebalanced all campaign quest rewards – they are much higher now
Various balancing improvements to world map AI
Fixed some windows having scaling issues on 4k resolution
Localized some text that was still not translated and shown in various locations in-game

We have a major update that took us a while to make, but is totally worth the wait. Aside from some fixes across the board this update resolves one of the longstanding issues that MKW had from day one.
In addition this update significantly improves performance, reduces loading times, reduced video card stress, cuts memory usage on in half and has a number of fixes and improvements across the board - from GUI to balancing.
And to go over the biggest part of this update - as most of our players know while MKW was working great in most departments - be it performance or gameplay. However we did have one major issue from day one - for a small number of players the game would crash when switching between levels. Luckily this issue only effected a small number of our players - but still it was one of the biggest problems the game had in our opinion.
Solution was very complex and required quite a bit of time - basically every game level had to be updated and reworked - but we can finally say that all these crashing issues have been fixed.
Now lets take a look at what our 38th update has in store

Fixed rare crash when loading big town levels from world map
Fixed rare crash on loading screen to the world map
Fixed rare crash when loading a level from Skirmish
Fixed a number of crashes that would happen during busy combat
Complete rework of towns generating trade goods
Trade goods are now generated monthly by each city
Loading times have decreased by about 25% in most situations
Visual performance improvements in all game modes
Greatly reduced the stress the game would put on video cards
Visual memory requirements reduced by over 50%
Reworked diplomacy window - it doesn`t reload all the lord portraits
Reworked various other windows - so they don`t reload unity portraits again and again
Fix for scaling issue with cheat console on 4k
Fixed two exploits that allowed multiplying resources in some instances
Fixed some intro cinematic in the King Campaign in the Greater World DLC
Fixed a number of smaller bugs across the board

Hope your staying warm during these cold winter days. It feels great to be back to work on Medieval Kingdom Wars, and today we have a major update 37 for you - improving things across the board. New new features, improvements, polish and balancing,
This update includes another layer of performance improvements, lots of GUI improvements, long-requested info popups with stats for the world map, a lot of balancing polish. On top of that we have redesigned the auto-resolve system, improve a lot of translations, and did a huge rebalance of both combat and world map gameplay and stats.
Also please let us know on the forums if your having any issues you would like for us to focus on, or have balancing or other suggestions.
And now lets take a look at what this Major Update 37 has in store. Please keep in mind we are doing final testing on 3 big features/improvements listed at the top of the list. They will be released tomorrow is a follow up update.

New cinematic camera on the world map when entering towns or battles will zoom in on the action (disabled until tomorrow)
Major visual GUI improvements to chancellor window – lord and king portraits will not flash (disabled until tomorrow)
Visual GUI improvements to world map GUI – unit portraits will not flash when using town or army GUI (disabled until tomorrow)
Fixed a number of rare crashes during combat
Decreased loading time for entering towns or hamlets
Major improvement to tutorial, fixed various places player could get stuck
Reworked world map tutorial chapter 3 to make it a lot easier to get through
Controlling allied or your kingdom armies can be activated with double left click on the world map
Translated some of the newly added text to all 6 supported languages
Improved Russian translation of the game
Mouse over each resource on the world map counters now gives complete breakdown of various categories adding or consuming each resource
Kingdoms name is now shown on the world map army and town interface – so player can easily figure out who certain army or town belongs to
Towns now show text on wall control points – making them easy to find, especially for new players
Full rebalance of the Auto-resolve to make it work a lot better and be a lot more realistic
Auto-resolve will now often leave units wounded but not dead
All in all a lot of performance and video card usage improvements
Re-enabled used of cheat codes.
To use cheats Press F7 or open chat window (Enter key does it as well), and type in /food or /wood or /stone or /silver to get 5000 of that resources added (up to the storage capacity)
Using cheat codes adds cheater tag to the campaign they are used on
Campaigns marked as cheaters will not earn Steam achievements
Chill Mode check-mark stay checked on create new campaign screen when scrolling through kingdoms
Fixed a big balancing issue where siege equipment would produce wood, instead of consuming it for upkeep
Major rebalance of many world map stats and gameplay
